Chapter 61 Counterattack
The world is collapsing.
The dilapidated houses, the injured people, the dust, the smoke, the scorching air, accompanied by shrill screams and the hissing sound of water gushing from burst underground pipes, all combined to create a cruel scene of disaster.
As his senses gradually returned, Lu Ze could see the mess in the room more clearly, and the buzzing in his ears also lessened.
"what happened!"
Luzer saw Leonard shouting with his mouth wide open, looking completely bewildered, and his voice faintly reached Luzer's ears.
"It's an attack! The Night Watch headquarters has been bombed!"
Lu Ze shouted as he scrambled to his feet, "Get out of here right now!"
He grabbed Leonard and shouted a few times, finally bringing the other man to his senses. Leonard turned and helped Klein and Greta up from the ground. The four of them, supporting each other, stumbled and staggered out of the already damaged and crooked hotel.
I struggled down the collapsed stairs, crossed the rubble-strewn hotel lobby, and stepped out the door. Before me lay a scene of utter devastation. Carriages lay overturned, the road surface collapsed, broken water pipes gushed water, the windows of the opposite building were shattered, and passersby lay on the ground, clutching their injuries and crying.
Looking towards the hotel next to Lu Zechao's, which was originally the headquarters of the night watchmen in Enmat Port—
The two-story fishing club building had vanished, as if a giant mouth had been turned toward the center, greedily swallowing it whole, taking a shocking bite out of the building. Rubble and tiles were scattered radially, the floorboards were torn off, and only half-remaining walls on either side proved that a building had once stood there.
"Oh my god."
Leonard, standing beside him, murmured in shock.
Amidst the ruins, mangled bodies lay scattered, and several men were frantically moving concrete slabs to rescue the wounded beneath. Luze immediately recognized the leader as the squad leader, Edward Crawford. His coat was tattered, and his left arm was missing below the wrist. He was desperately trying to lift a concrete slab with one hand, attempting to pull his teammates from below; his fingers were cut, and blood congealed on the cement, leaving vivid red handprints.
"Let's go rescue them too."
Seeing Edward's miserable state, Luze sighed inwardly. Putting aside any prejudices, as fellow night watchmen, they had to help each other at this moment.
The other two, of course, didn't refuse. They rushed into the ruins to help the night watchmen of Enmat Port rescue people. Edward's eyes showed complex emotions when he saw them arrive, but the situation didn't allow him to speak casually; everyone was focused on rescuing people as quickly as possible. After all, the longer they delayed, the lower the chances of the injured surviving.
The wounded and the dead were separated into different areas. Ms. Daly, with a wound on her forehead, hurried up from the ground, carrying a green wreath. She stood among the wounded, raised the wreath, and a pale green light emanated from it. The wounded, who had been groaning in pain, were bathed in the light, and their expressions gradually became peaceful.
Seeing this, Dai Li's tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly, but when she saw the deceased beside her, her expression turned sorrowful again.
"Captain, five are seriously wounded, seven have died, and the rest... cannot be found."
After the scene was mostly cleared, a lightly injured night watchman came over and reported that his eyes were filled with sadness.
Edward closed his eyes slightly after hearing this.
The reason they said they couldn't find it was because the bodies were too close to the explosion's epicenter and had been reduced to dust.
"Captain Edward, Ms. Daly, what exactly happened?"
Lu Ze and the other two also stepped forward and asked seriously.
"Our team members have been apprehended."
Daly shook her head and recounted what had just happened. Not only had the team members detonated, but their wagons were also loaded with explosives. If Edward hadn't used a sealing artifact, sacrificing his left hand to block part of the explosion, there might have been even more deaths.
"All of this may be related to the killer we are tracking, because when the attack began, the controlled team members said, 'Ms. M greets you.'"
Ms. M?
Lu Ze, who had been quite calm, was suddenly jolted when he heard this!
He remembered!
Sirius's letter was written to Ms. M. It was Ms. M who allowed Sirius and the others to control the original Luze, which led to the latter's death and Sirius's own transmigration. Could it be that Ms. M's true form is in Enmat Port, and is the enemy they are about to face?
"Judging from this title, she must be a messenger of the Aurora Society. Those damned lunatics!"
Ms. Dai Li's eyes were filled with tears, and it was clear that she deeply resented them.
Lu Ze's mind was a bit of a mess, and he couldn't hear what Dai Li was saying at all. He managed to steady himself and asked, "So what do we do next? Keep chasing?"
Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly looked in one direction without warning! It was as if some invisible rope was pulling him from there; the movement was so large that it startled everyone around him.
"Lu Ze, what's wrong?!"
Ms. Dai Li said.
Lu Ze's expression was extremely grim. His pupils constricted as he stared at the distant port area. Blood-red clouds had begun to swirl in the sky there, and the Mystic traits within him were frantically activating, as if some terrible danger was brewing, potentially bringing about a cataclysmic disaster!
"there!"
He stretched out his fingers and found his hand trembling slightly. "I can sense a dangerous presence gathering power. That aura is related to the true creator, and something is very wrong! If we don't stop it, it might erupt and bring about a disaster!"
"The port area, isn't that where they went to investigate?"
"Was it Ms. M who did this?" Dai Li asked.
"Whatever you want!"
Lu Ze practically shouted it out; alarm bells were ringing wildly in his head, "If we don't get there now, it'll be too late!"
He tried to make the others realize the seriousness of the situation, but looking around, all he could see were dead and wounded everywhere, and only a few of them were still able to stand.
Can these people stop it?
"Can you pinpoint the exact location?"
Suddenly Edward spoke, his voice hoarse and low. His coat was covered in dust and tattered, but his eyes were still bright.
Lu Ze took a deep breath and controlled his emotions.
"I can."
"Alright, let me go downstairs to get my things, then we'll go together."
His words were calm, but like a volcano about to erupt, they were secretly gathering strength. He straightened his tattered coat and stood up straight. "Since the Aurora Society has greeted me, we night watchmen of Enmat Port cannot be rude. We must return the favor a hundredfold."
