Chapter 120 - Chapter 120: People from Backlund

Chapter 120: People from Backlund

Sunday morning, 2 Daffodil Street.

"Well, I'm off to work." Klein swallowed his last bite of bread, tipped his head back to finish his coffee, then hastily stood up. "Melissa, the task of buying tickets is yours. Remember, just buy three."

"I understand."

Melissa replied, a hint of regret in her expression. "It's a shame, we can't go to the theater with Cecilia and them now."

"...There's nothing we can do, their relatives suddenly fell ill, you see?"

The Clown's ability allowed Klein to control his facial expressions well, and he spoke casually and easily.

In reality, he sighed deeply in his heart.

Clearly, the rondall siblings couldn't make it. He could only lie to Melissa, saying that Lu Ze's uncle was critically ill and he needed to take Cecilia to see the old man one last time.

As for how to cover up the lie later, he hadn't thought of that yet.

Benson, his older brother, who was also at the dining table, gave Klein a deep look, as if sensing something, but didn't speak.

As he spoke, Klein had already walked to the porch, put on his overcoat, and donned his semi-tall silk top hat.

"Have a good day, Mr. Klein!"

Bella, the young maid tidying the table nearby, quickly curtsied to see him off.

Klein walked out of his house and glanced at number 6 next door; that house was now empty.

He walked to the street corner, boarded a carriage, and rode it until Zouteland Street, where he disembarked and walked to the company.

As soon as Klein entered Blackthorn Security Company, he felt the slightly oppressive atmosphere within. No one was chatting, nor was anyone smiling. Everyone sat silently around the sofa, occasionally exchanging complex glances.

They seemed to be waiting for something.

Yes, it's today.

Klein thought.

"Klein."

He heard someone calling him softly nearby. Following the sound, Rozanne was leaning over the front desk, beckoning him over.

"Something wrong?"

"I heard... Lu Ze and the others are leaving today?"

"That's right."

Klein nodded.

This was also why all the Nighthawks team members were waiting in the hall.

Dunn had reported all of Lu Ze's situation to the Holy Cathedral, and last night, the Holy Cathedral finally gave its approval: the rondall siblings would be taken to Backlund to receive relevant arrangements.

"Relevant arrangements? What exactly does that mean?"

Rozanne was a bit puzzled.

"I don't know either."

Klein shook his head. The Holy Cathedral's reply was ambiguous, but its attitude wasn't stern. He figured Lu Ze's life was definitely saved; he would just be taken to Backlund, and at worst, it would be an outcome similar to Old Neil's.

Speaking of which, Old Neil's move to Backlund was also because of him... it was a strange cycle.

"May the Goddess bless the siblings."

Rozanne drew a Crimson Moon on her chest, sincerely praying for them.

"Goddess bless."

Klein followed suit.

After chatting with Rozanne for a few more minutes, Klein also left. Soon, people from the Backlund diocese would arrive at Blackthorn Security Company to take Lu Ze away. Before that, he had to complete the relevant handover work.

To be honest, his heart felt heavy.

Although Lu Ze's arrest was mainly due to his own reasons, it was Klein who discovered his problem, which gave Klein a subtle sense of guilt for pushing a teammate into a vortex.

"The house? We'll keep renting it for now."

In the company's basement, in front of Chanis Gate, inside the cage, Lu Ze said indifferently, "It depends on what happens to me after I get to Backlund. If I'm restricted like Old Neil, then transfer the property rights to Cecilia's name."

"I don't want it."

Outside the cage, Cecilia said.

"Be good."

Lu Ze tried to comfort his sister.

The Holy Cathedral had granted Lu Ze's request and given Cecilia a lenient sentence. She would hardly be punished, but her future life would be monitored, or rather, protected, with at most some inconvenience. Cecilia, however, was very dissatisfied because Lu Ze might not be able to live with her anymore.

"Alright, alright, I've noted everything down."

Leonard wrote down everything he said. As a courtesy to a colleague, the Nighthawks would help him handle his property remaining in Tingen, just like with Old Neil's case.

"And these items, please confirm them as well. The people from Backlund will take them all, and after checking them for harm, they might return them to you."

He then showed a box to Lu Ze.

Inside the box were items related to mysticism found on Lu Ze and in his home. This included three Beyonder items: Azik Eggers's white bone flute, the Servant's Bell, and the dagger formed by fusing a Demoness characteristic. As for the Clockwork Clown, it was originally a Sealed Artifact belonging to the Church and had naturally been reclaimed.

Besides that, the box also contained various materials he had accumulated, such as herbs, essential oil candles, and parts of the Demoness's internal organs.

"It's all in there, nothing's missing."

Lu Ze just glanced at it and said.

Although they nominally said they would return them, Lu Ze doubted how much would be left after the Church's people finished their inspection. The materials weren't much, but it was a pity about the three Beyonder items.

Just then, he noticed another box next to the large one.

"What's in there?"

"You mean this? This contains Madam M's items."

Leonard dispelled the Wall of Spirituality around the box and opened it. Inside, there was the Crimson Rose Ring and Madam M's precipitated Beyonder characteristic, a golden vertical eye with scales... It looked a bit like Hood Eugen's Beyonder characteristic, so they were indeed from the same Sequence.

Lu Ze secretly thought.

Just then, footsteps came from outside the underground passage, and Dunn quickly walked in. His overcoat was a bit wrinkled, and stubble sprouted from his chin. Because of Lu Ze's matter, he hadn't been home recently.

"Captain, is something wrong?"

Leonard asked.

"The people from the Backlund diocese are here to pick up Lu Ze. The person leading the team is an acquaintance from last time."

Dunn said, his gaze sweeping deeply over the rondall siblings.

They're already here?

Hearing this news, Lu Ze had an odd feeling that it came too quickly, but at the same time, a sense of relief, like the other shoe had dropped.

Without needing a mirror, he could guess that his expression must be quite a sight.

"Now, the Backlund Nighthawks are resting in the hall. Due to different levels of confidentiality, you two will be escorted in two separate groups and arranged into two different motorcades to reach Backlund."

After Dunn explained the escort plan, he looked at the siblings, a hint of weariness on his usually composed face. "I'll give you siblings a few minutes alone to have a good talk."

With that, he walked out of the area with Leonard.

"Brother, let's escape."

Once Dunn left, Cecilia proposed without hesitation.
