Chapter 8 - Took you long enough

[Nicole's POV ]

The next morning

I sighed not from exhaustion but from the simple joy of the moment. For some reason I felt content as if I still didn't have to get up to dress for school.

Picking my phone from the bedside table, I checked the time- 6:15. I was early, too early to be up. So I let my thoughts drift back to Yesterday.

I groaned and dragged the blanket over my face, cringing as I remembered how Laura basically embarrassed me in front of Micheal and Jay.

"Laura!!!" My scream muffled in the blanket. "How could she do that?" I fake-cried into the blanket again. On about I was 'the nicer one.' She couldn't have been more obvious, why didn't she just go ahead and say 'she's interested, so talk.'

"Ugh"

Still happy I got to talk to Micheal though

*Ping* "hmm"

The buzz of my phone lit up the screen. A text message from Laura, probably texting to torment me- which she calls light teasing.

Laura: Thinking about Micheal 😉

Nicole: No

Nicole: Okay, maybe a little 🫣, you happy

I took the risk of admitting I was thinking about Micheal which I regretted instantly because of the number of pings I heard notifying me when I received a text message- text messages specifically from Laura.

Laura: I KNEW IT!!!

Laura: You've got it so bad.

Laura: I'm going to just assume it's not just a clutch.

Laura: *crush*, for my amusement.

Laura: He'd probably figure it out from the way you blush every time you're caught staring at him.

I groaned, burying my face in my pillow. My whole body felt hot. Why did I admit it, why couldn't I just laugh it off. Now she's bombarded my phone with text messages, not giving me time to even reply.

Nicole: Do I really blush every time?

Laura: Yeah, you do

Nicole: Gosh, he must think I'm weird, with all the staring.

Laura : Yes but you're hot, so he should be grateful he gets to be stared at by a hot girl.

Laura: Gotta go but we finish this at school, you don't want to be late again.

Checking the time again. "Crap" I muttered, as I got out of bed, dropping my phone on the bedside table. She was right, if we had stayed texting longer, I might go to school late again.

I knew I still had time but I didn't want to dawdle either.

When I walked into the kitchen, I could smell coffee. Mum was leaning against the counter, mug in hand- which contained the coffee I smelt coming in, scrolling through her phone she glanced up and smiled.

She did say she had no work today, in her words 'finally a day of' which makes no sense cause she's still going to the work on her laptop later.

"Morning " she said

"Morning." I took a bowl from the cupboard and poured cornflakes into it. At least I'm not yet late. Carrying the bowl to the table, I got milk from the fridge unscrewed the cap and poured it in. Sitting down to enjoy my cereal.

Done with breakfast, I stood up to lean a kiss on mum's cheek. "Bye, Mum."

"Bye honey, have a good day."

I pulled into the parking lot, lo and behold, Laura waiting for me grinning, like she'd been standing there just to catch me.

Easing the car into an empty space, I grabbed my bag from the passenger seat and pushed the door open stepping out.

"Took you long enough " she said

I locked the car and walked over to her, smiling anyway. "it's not even late"

"Mm-hmm" she said with that teasing look again. "Bet you were still daydreaming again."

I nudged her shoulder as we walked to the school building "you wish." Laughing as I retorted back.
