Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Overprotective Mother-in-Law, Jun Yao’s Confusion.

"Jun Yao."

Han Mengjuan hurried forward, her face beaming. "How wonderful! I knew it—my daughter is truly blessed, nothing could possibly harm her."

Jiang Haiyun's face also shone with excitement as he quickly took out his phone to contact their private doctor.

Wu Ma and the butler both shared in the joy.

But then, there were Chen Meijing and her daughter, their faces dark with anger, as if they'd just swallowed something foul.

Soon after, a few medical staff arrived with their equipment and began conducting a thorough examination on Jiang Junyao.

"How is she, doctor?"

Han Mengjuan asked nervously.

"Madam, Miss Jiang is in good health; she's just a bit weak," the doctor replied, his face filled with disbelief.

As the Jiang family's private doctor, he had regularly checked Jiang Junyao's health. Just days ago, she had been examined, and her brain was as it had always been—only showing slight fluctuations. Her body exhibited muscular atrophy in multiple areas.

Now, however, not only had she miraculously woken up, but those atrophied muscles were also returning to their normal state.

It was truly inconceivable.

Jiang Haiyun burst into hearty laughter. "Ha! It must be the blessings of the ancestors of the Jiang family."

With his daughter waking up, all the darkness in his heart was swept away.

Han Mengjuan, however, glanced at Ye Chu involuntarily, thinking about the events earlier.

Could it really be such a coincidence?

She pushed aside her doubts and, with a smug look, turned to Chen Meijing.

"Oh, elder sister-in-law, look at this! My son-in-law really is a lucky star. The moment he came to our house, Junyao woke up."

"With Ye Chu as our lucky star, our family is sure to thrive. You'd better watch out, don't let your own family lose the president you picked up by chance."

Chen Meijing's face darkened, unable to believe how quickly the slap in the face had come.

"Hmph, just a labor camp convict, and he's acting all proud—how shameless."

Chen Meijing shot Han Mengjuan a resentful glare and left with her daughter in tow.

The group of doctors also followed suit.

Once the room cleared, Han Mengjuan immediately walked over to Ye Chu. "Good son-in-law, you truly are our family's lucky star. I believe Junyao will be happy with you."

She was more and more pleased with Ye Chu.

Jiang Haiyun, however, furrowed his brows. "Mengjuan, Junyao has already woken up. I think this farce about 'warming the bed' should end here."

He had never liked Ye Chu, even when Jiang Junyao was still in a vegetative state.

Now that she had woken up, there was no way he would accept his precious daughter marrying a convict.

Han Mengjuan, anger flaring, shot a look at him. "Jiang Haiyun, what do you mean? You're trying to cross the river and demolish the bridge?"

"Without Ye Chu, would Junyao have woken up?"

Jiang Haiyun coldly retorted, "Junyo woke up because of her own good fortune, because of the blessings from the ancestors of the Jiang family. What does this kid have to do with it? Do you really believe in such nonsense as 'warming the bed'?"

"Is that so?" Han Mengjuan sneered, her tone pointed. "Then explain this: Junyao didn't wake up earlier or later, but the moment Ye Chu arrived at our house, she woke up."

Han Mengjuan shot him a sharp look. "Don't you remember what just happened?"

"Hmph, it's just a coincidence," Jiang Haiyun snorted. "You really believe this kid? He's a convict, what does he know about…?"

Han Mengjuan's anger boiled over. "Jiang Haiyun, Ye Chu is my son-in-law. If you dare bring up his criminal record again, I won't spare you."

Jiang Haiyun stood stunned, unable to believe that his wife, of all people, was defending a newly arrived stranger with such passion.

He was infuriated. "Han Mengjuan, I will listen to you on everything else, but not on this matter. This boy must divorce Junyao."

"You've really lost it today, haven't you? How dare you shout at me like that?"

Before the argument could escalate further, Jiang Junyao, lying in bed, spoke up.

"Dad, Mom, please stop fighting. I need some peace and quiet."

The couple immediately quieted down. Han Mengjuan shot Jiang Haiyun a glare, then looked at Jiang Junyao.

"Junyao, rest well. I'll make you some nourishing soup."

With that, she exited the room, and Jiang Haiyun shot Ye Chu a look before following her.

That look seemed to say, Kid, you better voluntarily ask for a divorce.

The nanny and the butler didn't dare stay any longer.

Just as Ye Chu was about to leave, Jiang Junyao called him back.

"Wait a moment, I need to speak with you."

Ye Chu turned, looking at the stunning beauty lying in bed.

Her eyes were like two black jewels, but they held an air of coldness and depth.

Jiang Junyao propped herself up against the headboard and glanced at Ye Chu, her voice calm.

"I think I've figured things out. My mom was just too worried and ended up doing something ridiculous like this 'warming the bed' nonsense."

"I don't know you, and marrying you was too forced, but you did give my mom a glimmer of hope when she was at her lowest."

"As thanks, I can offer you ten million as compensation."

Ye Chu raised an eyebrow. Ten million? Was she looking down on him?

"So, what exactly are you trying to say?"

A flicker of surprise crossed Jiang Junyao's eyes. He didn't react to the mention of ten million.

For an ordinary person, ten million was no small sum.

Jiang Junyao's tone remained flat. "Find a time to divorce. We come from different worlds, and there is no point in forcing this relationship."

Her voice was calm, not arrogant nor commanding.

But that calmness itself exuded a sense of true "pride." In Jiang Junyao's eyes, Ye Chu might be an insignificant insect, while she was a phoenix high above in the sky.

After the divorce, their paths would never cross again.

She couldn't even be bothered to use her status to pressure him.

Why would a phoenix bother to lower itself to the level of an insect?

Ye Chu, hearing this, couldn't help but laugh. He retorted, "How do you know we're from different worlds? Do you even know me?"

Jiang Junyao rubbed her temples. "I don't like people who cling and beg. I hope you have self-awareness."

Although it was their first meeting, she had already learned enough from her parents' conversations.

A convict who was brought into the family to 'warm the bed.'

Such a person was too ordinary, not suitable for her at all.

Since the other party had already made her stance clear, Ye Chu didn't want to keep forcing his presence.

Although he needed the Phoenix Body to suppress the dragon's resentment within him, he still had his pride.

Without the Phoenix Body, he could find another suitable physique.

He would never grovel before her.

"I have no objections, as long as my parents agree."

He didn't close the door on the possibility because he genuinely liked Han Mengjuan as his mother-in-law.

Since his own mother passed away, Han Mengjuan had once again made him feel the warmth of a mother's love.

"I'll talk to Mom," Jiang Junyao said, lying back down. "You can go now. I need some rest."

After Ye Chu left, Jiang Junyao sighed softly.

Although what she was doing felt a bit underhanded, her identity was special. Ye Chu's presence would eventually bring trouble.

Ye Chu went downstairs to find Han Mengjuan busy in the kitchen, quickly preparing a feast.

Wu Ma helped the weak Jiang Junyao downstairs.

"Junyao, come sit. I made your favorite black-bone chicken soup."

Han Mengjuan stood and invited her to sit.

As the family gathered around the table, just as they were about to begin eating, Jiang Junyao turned to Han Mengjuan.

"Mom, I just spoke to Ye Chu. We're not suited for each other, and I plan to divorce him."

Han Mengjuan's smile froze on her face.

Jiang Haiyun laughed heartily. "Ha! Junyao agrees with me. This kid is indeed unsuitable. After dinner, we'll go to the civil affairs office."

Smack!

Han Mengjuan slammed her chopsticks down onto the table. "I dare anyone to try. Junyao, don't forget your gratitude. I won't agree to this."

"When you were in a coma, all your past suitors avoided you like the plague, not to mention marrying into our family."

"At the most critical moment, Ye Chu stepped up, and the moment he arrived, you woke
