James reached to take the paper from Grace.
But she was quick to put it back in her file, away from his grasp.
''Now I don't need to start counting for you to know that you're not welcomed here. Do I?'' Grace asked, glaring daggers at him.
James face fell.
He stepped back, opening the gates and leaving the house.
The laughter Harmonica had been stifling immediately rippled out of her.
''You're so cool mom!'' She praised, giving her a thumbs up.
Grace smiled too, entering into the house.
She also felt proud of herself. She had never stood up to him everrr
But today, she did.
And she wished she had been doing so throughout the time they were together. Maybe he wouldn't have treated her or her daughter the way he did.
''Let me make us dinner.'' She uttered, moving towards the kitchen.
Harmonica followed behind her, helping her prep ingredients for the food.
''When would you go back to work?'' Grace asked, oiling the pan.
