Chapter 104Lily's POV
Joe's eyes gleamed, sharp as a blade in the dark. His voice was low, almost thoughtful, but laced with venom. "So. You think your father's ghost whispers strategy into your ear, do you?"
Xavier didn't flinch. "No, Alpha. My father is gone. But his lessons remain, and they are the reason I stand here instead of cowering in silence."
The corner of Joe's mouth curled, humorless. "You call this standing? I see a boy quivering behind his father's words, hoping they'll shield him from the consequences of defiance."
I wanted to speak, to plead with Joe to stop needling him, but my throat felt sealed shut. My fingers dug into the arms of the chair as I fought to breathe.
Xavier's voice was firmer now, though his hand still trembled at his side. "You can call me a boy if it pleases you. But even a boy can recognize when a plan is suicide. And I will not, cannot, let my pack walk blindfolded into death."
