Chapter 42: The Final Battle

Diana pointed her sword directly at Patrick Morgan(Ares) and lunged forward, attempting to pierce his chest. But Patrick—now fully revealed as Ares— raised one hand in front of blade tip, as sword tip hit his palm sword broken effortlessly by palm.
The legendary God Killer sword, forged on Themyscira, shattered like glass.
Diana's eyes widened in shock.

Ares grabbed Diana and threw her away with tremendous force. She crashed through wooden crates and metal debris. Ares flew out in air.

Diana quickly recovered and swung her Lasso of Truth toward Ares, attempting to bind him. But Ares raised his hand, and a powerful gust of wind stopped the lasso mid-air, preventing it from reaching him.

Lin Chen's eyes darted to the massive bomber plane on the runway. Its engines roared to life, and he could see Steve Trevor climbing into the cockpit, fighting with the German pilot inside.
"Diana!" Lin Chen shouted. "I need to help Steve to stop that plane!"
Before Diana could respond, Lin Chen sprinted toward the accelerating aircraft. He ran at full speed, pushing him to his absolute limit.
The plane was already moving fast down the runway. Lin Chen pushed harder. He reached out and grabbed onto the exterior landing gear just as the plane began to lift off the ground.
But the angle was wrong. The plane rose too quickly, and Lin Chen couldn't pull himself inside the cargo hold. Instead, he hung from the exterior strut, clinging desperately as the aircraft climbed higher and higher into the sky.
This wasn't the plan, Lin Chen thought grimly as wind tore at his body. But it works even better this way. Diana needs to believe I'm gone. That's the only way her divine power will fully awaken to kill Ares and she appear as wonder women in future.

Back on the ground, Ares gestured mockingly toward the sky. "You fight for the memory of a dead man and a ghost! Look at the plane, Diana! It carries the end of your hope!"
The massive bomber was now high above the airfield, barely visible against the dawn sky.
Diana looked up, her heart breaking as she thought of Lin Chen clinging to that plane.
"No! Lin, why!" Diana screamed through tears, her voice raw with anguish.
Ares smiled cruelly. "He cannot hear you. He is a fly caught in a web of his own heroism. Watch as his death consumes him."

High above, Lin Chen watched through the plane's window. He saw Steve Trevor inside the cockpit, struggling with the pilot. Steve finally managed to overpower the German, then looked down at the deadly gas canisters filling the cargo hold.
Steve pulled out his pistol and looked at his watch—a gift from his father. He smiled sadly and saluted toward the ground below.
Lin Chen knew what was coming. I'm sorry, Steve. You're the destined hero. But I have to play the long game here. Diana needs this moment.
At the exact instant, Lin Chen released his grip on the exterior strut and dropped away from the plane.
To anyone watching from the ground, the timing was perfect—the explosion was so instantaneous and violent that it appeared Lin Chen had been caught directly in the center of the massive fireball.
The entire sky lit up with orange and white flames as the plane and all its deadly cargo vaporized.
A shockwave of grief hit Diana like a physical blow. She closed her eyes, unable to look away from the burning sky.
"NOOOOO!" Diana's scream echoed across the battlefield.
The air around her began to crackle with energy. Blue-white lightning danced across her skin. She wasn't just an Amazon warrior anymore—she was awakening as the daughter of Zeus, with the power to kill gods.

Ares laughed coldly. "Now you see! They are gone! The pilot and your 'perfect' warrior. Nothing remains but the truth of war! Humanity destroys everything it touches!"
Diana's voice trembled with grief, but underneath it was something else—something powerful awakening. "You're wrong, Ares. They didn't die for nothing. They died for the love they had for this world... and the love I have for him!"
Her eyes began to glow with divine light.
Ares attacked with overwhelming force, hurling military vehicles, tanks, and chunks of concrete at Diana using his telekinesis. But Diana, fueled by her awakened divine power, deflected everything with her bracelets.
She leaped into the air, her body surrounded by crackling energy, and struck Ares with tremendous force. The impact created a shockwave that shattered windows across the entire airfield.
Ares transformed into his original appearance, retaliated by transmuting the metal debris around him into razor-sharp projectiles and launching them at Diana like bullets. She spun, her bracelets working as defence for her.

She crossed her bracelets, and a massive burst of pure energy exploded outward, forcing Ares backward.

Meanwhile, Lin Chen had used his newly acquired flight ability to glide safely away from the explosion, landing silently in the tall grass at the edge of the airfield.
He immediately moved into the shadows and made his way carefully back toward the battle, staying hidden behind debris and ruined buildings.
I need to stay close enough to their fight, Lin Chen thought.

She raised her arms and channeled that divine lightning from Ares, that was striking her bracelets with blinding intensity.
Diana caught Ares' lightning with her bracelets and reflected it back at him, amplified a hundredfold by her divine lightning.

With one final surge of white lightning, she obliterated what remained of Ares. The God of War was no more.

Lin Chen, still hidden in the shadows, watched as Diana stood alone in the massive crater created by the final blast. She looked up at the smoke trail from where the plane had exploded, tears streaming down her face.
"I will always remember you, Lin," Diana said softly, her voice breaking. "You were the best gift of my life."
Around the battlefield, something miraculous happened. The German and Allied soldiers, who had been locked in vicious combat moments before, suddenly stopped fighting. Ares' war craze influence over their minds had been broken.
They looked at each other and began lowering their weapons.
The war was finally over.
Diana had saved them all. But the victory felt hollow. She had lost the men she cared about most—Lin Chen—in the terrible moment.
She was still emotionally broken, psychologically scarred, and devastated over not being able to save Lin Chen from his self-sacrificing death. But his selfless act, and his love, had shown her that humanity was worth believing in and protecting despite all their flaws.
She silently vowed to continue protecting them, but as a mysterious savior who operated in the shadows. She had no interest in fame or recognition.
