Chapter 15 - A Better Predator

"You're bleeding again…"

Anwen touched the soiled scarf on her neck, "Oh…that happens. I bleed too much, so I try to prevent getting injured"

Theon sucked in air looking sheepishly, "I made a dumb mistake. Sorry"

Yes, yes you did. Throwing arrows at a person is more than a dumb mistake you idiot!

But Anwen didn't dare say that out loud, not when he was practically her saviour right now. "It's okay! Like you said it was self defense…sort of"

Although Theon didn't look satisfied with her words, he didn't press further. They needed to leave the forest so she could get treated properly. That was more important.

"You're a Fae…can't you heal yourself or someth-"

"Shushhhh!" Anwen placed both hands over his mouth, cutting him off from speaking. "No one knows I'm a Fae, okay?!" She whisper-yelled.

"This is a secret that stays between us! Don't speak so loudly about it. There…there could be more corrupted vampires out here!"

Theon rolled his eyes and swatted her hands away, "They'd drop dead before they could even think of getting close to you. Don't be scared of anyone…I won't let anything happen to you"

Although he said it so casually, those words did something to Anwen. It did flips in her stomach and her heart felt like it would explode.

She was unable to hide her grin and that made Theon shift uncomfortably, "What?"

"Earlier…what did you mean by me being yours?"

Oh…that. Theon looked away. He said that in the heat of the moment because of the threat. Vampires are highly territorial, but it didn't make the threat back off like he thought it would.

Saying that was enough to clear whatever thought Anwen had in mind…yet for some reason, he didn't want that.

"I found you before he did. Vampires are predators and you…you are a prey. My prey. Normally, vampires drink the blood of their prey on sig-"

All colours had drained from Anwen's face, her smile basically melted away. She looks cute. I should torment her more.

"D-drink.." Anwen gulped, "You're going to drink from me? You can't do that!"

"Why not?" Theon tilted his head to the side.

"Because…because" Right. There was no reason he shouldn't drink her blood. He was a vampire, she was…well…not human but not a vampire too. Meaning she was food to him.

"Relax…I won't drink your blood…"

Her eyes lit up.

"...yet"

This darned vampire! Anwen gritted her teeth inwardly, thinking of numerous ways she could kill him…Ha! Her? Kill a vampire?

She couldn't even hurt a fly. I'm truly hopeless.

"So that means, as long as I'm your prey, other vampires can't drink from me…right?"

Theon nods, "If they did, that would be violating the laws of vampirism and the vampire would be sentenced to death. Unless I give them permission or die."

"Then don't die! Don't give them permission either! I won't let anyone drink from me! You can't give them permission okay!? I need my blood to survive!"

Anwen had never heard of such a law, not even from Roarke. But then, there's so much about vampires that she wasn't aware of.

In the short while of being with him, I've managed to know more about vampires than from Laia and the library. He also didn't hurt me when I told him my secret…and he's even promised to protect me.

"So…" Theon cleared his throat causing Anwen to lift her gaze at him, her pale blue eyes stunning him for a moment. "...if you ever run into a vampire like before, tell them they can't drink from you since you are a prey that has been claimed by Theon. That would make them back away."

Anwen pondered over what he said…Is being a claimed prey the only way to be protected from vampires?

"Also. Get away from a vampire if they look suspicious or corrupted and look for me. After all…" He picked up a bit of her hair and twirled it between his fingers.

"...I'm a better predator—wouldn't you agree?"

Thump.

The two walked in silence, with Theon leading the way and Anwen one step behind. Their hands were clasped together, courtesy to Anwen who didn't want to get lost due to the fog, as she claims.

She might seem annoying from being too clingy, but could you blame her? She had zero clue of where they were. Although Theon confirmed they weren't far from the library, she would feel much better around a less grimy surrounding.

"I'll see for myself about the hatch…such a flaw in the imperial library had gone unnoticed, people there can be irresponsible"

That was Theon's reply when she narrated her ordeal of how she ended up in the forest. He spoke like someone who visited the library often.

Maybe we can meet whenever I visit the library….if I'm allowed to visit. Sigh. Theon said that five hours had passed…did the library lady notice my disappearance?

Also, who is Theon? He's not an average vampire, that much I can tell. From his looks, way of speech and also how knowledgeable he is for his age.

He must definitely be from a noble house.

I wish I could get to know him be-

"ANWEN!"

That was Remington's voice.
