Chapter 6 - In the body of a rival family

The Greens and the Graysons were arguably the most powerful families in the country, controlling most of the companies and corporations that were well known. And because of this power hierarchy, a constant power struggle had been coexisting between the two families.

Over the course of the years, the competition turned into a rivalry, resulting in bad blood between the Greens and the Graysons. They sought out on a mission to try and topple the other party, making sure that they stay on top of the food chain. But one difference between the two families was always clear. The Greens had more advantage, more buyers, more estates and even more backing from several economies.

This led the Graysons to partner up with the next best thing;the Stones. The Stones were arguably the third most powerful family behind the Greens and the Graysons. The Graysons thought that maybe if they merged their empires together, they would even the playing ground or better still, surpass the Greens by a far distance.

And what better way to do that, than to wed their heirs?

This turn of events made the Greens wary and cautious on their next move, and of course, all the responsibilities fell on Sofia Green. Her parents retired about a year ago, deciding that Sofia was intellectually strong enough to handle the entire empire on her own.

So Elena seeing the face of Sofia when she stared in the mirror wasn't just bad. It was tragic. Her whole existence was shattering into an inexplicable tragedy.

Tears flowed down her face as she stared in the mirror with an expression of utter disbelief on her face. It all started making sense to her as to why she found herself in a foreign, but somewhat familiar environment. The lives of the Greens were exposed, as a result of their fame and influence, and of course, every corner of the green building had been documented in all social media platforms. So Elena seeing her environment sparked up a vague memory in her mind.

"Ohh my God! The penthouse… .the scenery….this body. I'm in Autumn hill city, and it's not just that. I am also in the green building and inside the body of Sofia Green."

She stared at her dark green eyes that glinted, and was nothing short of gorgeous. Her black hair swerved down to her lower back with such elegance that could only be seen on someone with a high class. But despite these graceful characteristics, she felt uneasy in a foreign body and couldn't help but feel more tense the more she stared at the perfectly symmetrical face in the mirror.

The more she became aware of the situation she was in, the more she remembered how she got into it. Little by little, scattered memories started flooding into her mind like a violent hailstorm. The recollection of what happened right before she lost consciousness and woke up in this new body was as devastating as it could get.

The strange man whose face she remembered, as it was the last face she ever saw was imprinted into her mind. The blood, the stabbing Duke, how Alex was knocked out of reality, and more importantly, the deafening gunshot she heard right before everything went black.

"I….I was actually shot? But why would someone do something like that?" More tears streamed down from Elena's eyes as she remembered her final moments.

"But he did say that he was asked to. That's why he did it. But who would be vile enough to send someone after me on the day of my engagement ceremony!"

At this point Elena's thoughts were loud enough to pierce the silver polished doors of her bathroom, making Jenny more concerned about her well-being.

"Miss Sofia? Are you okay? I'm starting to get really bothered. Should I go call your mother to tend to you?" Jenny asked

Elena easily assessed the situation swiftly. And not wanting to cause a panic, or even facing the woman that her father talked to her about with nothing but a distasteful tone, quickly came out of the bathroom.

"No. Please don't. I'm okay. I'm just feeling a little bit dizzy, that's all. It's Jenny right? Please give me some privacy and make sure no one disturbs me"

"Now," Jenny thought, "I'm starting to feel really concerned about Miss Sofia's mental state."

"Alright, miss. I'll be at the laundry room if you need me." and with that, Jenny left the room.

Elena, as she was now left alone, tried to calm herself down. But that didn't stop the intense pounding of the organ in her chest.

"What am I going to do? I can't live like this….I just can't!. Not without mum and dad. Not without Alex. Ohh my God, Alex! Is he okay? He was hit with a blunt force to his head…"

Another round of newly created tears streamed from her eyes as she found herself in a deeply impossible situation. Elena was lost. She couldn't just go back to her old life after getting killed and reincarnating into the body of the head of the Green's empire. She felt like her whole world had turned upside down.

"But I love him. He is supposed to be my husband, and I can't let him go. I won't."

She started searching for something. Anything that could shed some light on what is going on in her family right now. She searched for some time, as the new environment was not easy to get acquainted with. That was until she saw a TV remote.

Quickly heading to her living room, she turned the TV on and began switching between channels at a swift rate, looking for any news on her demise. In a matter of seconds she started seeing reports of the Grayson family facing a terrible tragedy as their only heir was found shot while heading to her manor with her fiancee.

"From the ongoing police investigation, it appears to be a planned assassination as no jewels or money was stolen from the crime scene," The reporter said.

Now, Elena was sure that she couldn't just weasel her way into her family just like that. Someone hired an assassin to kill her, and that person was still at large. She needed to find out who orchestrated and masterminded her murder, and is going to stop at nothing to find that out.

"The Green family is by far the wealthiest family in the country," Elena thought, "I am not going to run away like a scared child. And I am definitely not going to put this new opportunity to waste."

"I will use this new power to control everyone around me, bring my killer to light, get back to my family, get back to Alex, and topple anyone that dares to cross me."

This new found unwavering conviction was going to be the birth of a new person. The old Elena had died, and her rebirth would mark the beginning of a new era.
