Chapter 48. Red-Eyes Non-Archetype Tech! What the heck is all this?
After thinking it through, Alexis Rhodes started considering how a Red-Eyes Deck should actually run.
Only after she began pondering it did Alexis feel more and more that something was off.
Search?
Special Summon?
Rank 7 Xyz?
It looked like she understood what Red-Eyes wanted to do.
What each card could do inside a Red-Eyes Deck.
But once these cards were combined together—
She was stumped.
Is this really Red-Eyes?
And this was only the appetizer.
The short video soon moved on to non-Fusion lines—other external engines to consider for monster inclusions.
Red-Dad yyds: "You thought that was it?"
Red-Dad yyds: "No, no, no, that's just the tip of the iceberg."
Red-Dad yyds: "In fact, you can still include a lot of interesting cards within the Red-Eyes build."
"For example, The Black Stone of Legend, which gives us in-archetype sustain and recovery."
"Level 4 monster Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight—put in one to two copies, and it can open up an unexpected effect line."
"Or Red-Eyes Wyvern, to revive and reuse Graveyard resources."
"And other Red-Eyes cards, and so on."
"All of these can give Red-Eyes a certain boost in overall Deck strength."
"But here's the problem."
"Red-Eyes can actually pair its construction with many other engines."
"Because that's how you bring out Red-Eyes's diversity and unique combos."
"So let's first talk about which non-archetype cards you can run."
"Starting with this card—Kashtira Unicorn!"
[Card Name: Kashtira Unicorn (Level 7)]
[Attribute: WIND]
[Type: Psychic]
[ATK/DEF: 2500/2100]
"Yeah, it's a card that has a bit to do with those weak little mermaids—Tearlaments—"
"But it's perfectly viable as an inclusion in a Red-Eyes build."
"The key point is Rank 7, and it can also be bridged by the Spell Small World."
Kashtira?
What card is that supposed to be?
Duelists across the six Duel Worlds almost all had this question pop into their heads immediately.
At the same time, a second confused question bubbled up.
Weak little mermaids.
What on earth is a Tearlaments?
Before they could think any further, the second non-archetype inclusion popped up.
[Card Name: Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms (Level 7)]
[Attribute: WIND]
[Type: Dragon]
[ATK/DEF: 2400/2200]
Effect 1:
You can discard this card and 1 WIND monster to send them to the Graveyard, then add 1 Dragon monster from your Deck to your hand.
Proactive searching plus sending to the Graveyard.
And the precision search hits Dragon archetypes directly.
Effect 2:
You can banish 2 Dragon or WIND monsters from your hand and/or Graveyard to activate; Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard.
Built-in Special Summon.
Effect 3:
If this card is Special Summoned, during the opponent's End Phase it must activate; return this card to the hand.
In effect, it can hold off a wave on the opponent's turn.
Effect 4:
If this card is banished, you can add 1 WIND Dragon monster from your Deck to your hand.
Even when banished, it recycles resources.
Four effects—and not a single one is useless.
What the heck is this supposed to be?
Right next to it was a partner piece, Lightning, Dragon Ruler of Drafts.
[Card Name: Lightning, Dragon Ruler of Drafts (Level 3)]
[Attribute: WIND]
[Type: Dragon]
[ATK/DEF: 500/1800]
It only has one effect, but it enables the Deck Special Summon for Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms.
Just discard 1 Dragon or WIND monster along with itself.
And even this still isn't the ceiling.
Up next were all sorts of bizarre non-archetype inclusions for Red-Eyes.
Monster Card The Phantom Knights of Dusty Robe.
Monster Card Raider's Wing.
Spell Card One for One.
Quick-Play Spell The Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic Launch.
Field Spell Dragon Ravine.
...
Duel Monsters world.
After seeing these cards, Joey Wheeler fell completely silent.
Huh?
What is all this?
Those earlier cards—
He could kind of get it.
They could be there to support the so-called Red-Eyes Xyz line.
After all, they're all Level 7s.
But those later cards—
What even are they?
How does any of this go with anything else?
And if you put them in, can they really bring out the strength of a Red-Eyes Deck?
"Hiss… I don't get it.
I just don't get it."
"Deckbuilding from that higher world…"
"I still can't comprehend it."
"Any big-brained duelist who can explain?"
Rex Raptor scratched the back of his head, staring at one non-Red-Eyes card after another, feeling nothing but dazed and at a loss.
"Uh… maybe that's what power looks like?"
"Who cares whose engine it is."
"Just jam it in."
"I'm sure there's a reason behind it."
Weevil Underwood tugged at his hair as well.
But for the sake of his Regional Champion face, he didn't dare offer his own "insight," and could only assume this meant it was correct.
Even the King of Games, Yugi Muto, after looking over these non-archetype cards, still couldn't make heads or tails of it.
Red-Eyes—why does it feel a bit different from what he first imagined?
...
GX world.
It wasn't just Joey who was thrown off.
After seeing that quite a few of these non-archetype cards had to be included, Atticus Rhodes felt exactly the same way Joey did.
"Little sis, do you understand this?"
"What's with these 'Phantom Knights' and a 'Tempest, Dragon Ruler'?"
"What critical roles are they supposed to play?"
Atticus tossed the question back to his sister, Alexis Rhodes.
Alexis only shook her head in puzzlement.
"Big bro, if even you don't get it, how would I get it?"
"Let's wait.
There should be a duel showcase later."
"Once we watch it, we'll know."
After speaking, Alexis took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.
What they needed to do next was wait for the duel demo after the build was finished.
