Chapter 105. Raidraptors Aid Disaster Leo! The Fall of the God Cards?
Although Shay Obsidian was completely thrown off by that Cyber Dragon line's play this turn, he had to admit it.
This different line of thinking was utterly unlike many of the Decks they had seen earlier.
It was precisely this sudden contrast that they couldn't accept for a moment.
In truth—
The Cyber Dragon board was very weak.
Yes.
Extremely weak.
It even felt like an after-the-fact, old-school Yu-Gi-Oh! board state weaker than theirs.
No Chimeratech Overdragon.
No negates.
No floating resources on destruction.
With a board like this, it would be easy to dismantle.
Even the back row had only 1 Set card that looked remotely threatening.
Looking at Life Points on the field:
The pure RR player was at 2800 Life Points.
"Invincible Cyber Dragon" still had 7000 Life Points.
The advantage was on Invincible Cyber Dragon's side.
Turn passed to the pure RR side.
Pure RR Player: "It's my turn! Yaa!"
Pure RR Player: "Draw!"
Pure RR Player: "I drew a second copy of 'Cup of Ace'!"
"I told you! For a true Duelist, everything is inevitable!"
"I choose—heads!"
The coin was tossed.
Heads again.
Two gambles in a row both landed.
Many Duelists watching couldn't help twitching at the corner of their mouths.
Wasn't this RR player's luck a bit too good?
Pure RR Player: "All right! I draw 2 cards!"
Pure RR Player: "I activate a Rank-Up-Magic! A second copy of 'Rank-Up-Magic Soul Shave Force'!"
Pure RR Player: "I target 'Raidraptor – Force Strix' in the Graveyard!"
"Keep stacking me up by 2 Ranks!"
"Come! Rank-Up—'Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis'!"
"I activate my card's effect!"
"I equip 'Number F0: Utopic Future' from the Graveyard."
"Then I send Utopic Future to the Graveyard, and your Life Points are halved—3500 LP."
"During the turn this effect is activated, I can't conduct the Battle Phase."
"But that's fine! I continue with Rank-Up-Magic! 'Rank-Up-Magic Raid Force'!"
"I Rank-Up Xyz Summon over 'Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis'!"
"'Raidraptor – Arsenal Falcon'!"
"Effect activate! I detach 1 material to Special Summon 'Raidraptor – Vanishing Lanius' from the Deck!"
"I activate the previously searched Rank-Up-Magic! 'The Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic Launch'!"
"Come, continue Rank-Up!"
"'Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo'!"
"Effect activate. If there are no cards in the Spell & Trap Zone, I can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card and place 1 Destiny Counter on this card."
With each step of Rank-Up, stranger and stranger Xyz Monsters kept appearing.
Clearly, this "pure Raidraptors" was just a feint.
This wasn't pure at all.
But here's the problem.
Since it wasn't pure Raidraptors, what was the point of teching in all these cards one after another?
If we rule out going for a Raidraptors win, the only remaining possibility is relying on other Xyz Monsters.
ZEXAL World.
Yuma Tsukumo and Astral wore puzzled expressions at what the short video was showing.
"Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis"?
"Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo"?
These were indeed "Number" cards.
But both cards were signature aces of other Duelists in their ZEXAL world.
Trey (Vetrix Family III).
His Deck is Chronomaly, and Atlandis is his ace.
Quattro (Vetrix Family IV).
His Deck is Gimmick Puppet, and Leo is also his ace.
Right now, both of them were staring blankly at a Raidraptors player's line of play.
"So, he isn't trying to win with my Atlandis?"
"Then what on earth—?"
Trey glanced toward Quattro.
"Not sure."
"He can't be trying to win with my Gimmick Puppet of Leo, can he?"
"You know Leo only wins when it has three Destiny Counters placed."
"Not just him—even I haven't pulled that off many times."
Quattro waved it off.
That's what he said.
But in his heart, he had a bad premonition.
This guy.
He's not actually going to pull it off… right?
While everyone was still wondering what the RR side was aiming for, the pure RR player continued the follow-up chain of Rank-Ups.
Pure RR Player: "I activate a second copy of 'ZEXAL Construction'!"
Pure RR Player: "I return 1 card to the Deck to search 'Rank-Up-Magic Quick Chaos'!"
"Come! Emergency Chaos Rank-Up!"
"'Number C88: Gimmick Puppet Disaster Leo'!"
"Continue by activating this card's effect!"
"Once per turn: I can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to inflict 1000 damage to you."
"Your Life Points are now 2500 LP!"
"During my End Phase, if your LP are 2000 or less, and this card has no Xyz Materials—"
"I win the Duel."
"This turn, I will write out the formula for victory!"
Invincible Cyber Dragon: "Are you kidding me?"
Invincible Cyber Dragon: "You mean to drop my Life Points below 2000?"
"And also remove your Disaster Leo's last material?"
"Pfft! Don't make me die laughing!"
"You've pretty much spent your resources, haven't you?"
"You've only got 1 card in hand, right?"
"Moreover, you can't even enter your Battle Phase."
"How are you going to get me below 2000?"
The opponent, Invincible Cyber Dragon, immediately started to mock.
As if using this line to win was naïve and laughable.
Not only Invincible Cyber Dragon.
Even the Duelists watching across the worlds were stunned when they heard the RR player planned to use this extremely difficult win condition.
Huh?
Isn't that just nonsense?
This win condition is too harsh.
You need the opponent's LP at 2000 or less.
And Disaster Leo must have no materials.
But right now, the opponent basically satisfies neither condition.
It's too hard to assemble both.
Looking at the RR side:
Only 1 card left in hand.
If it's a burn Spell, maybe you can barely meet one condition.
But what about the second condition?
How do you meet that?
Very soon, the answer came to every Duelist and to the opponent alike.
Pure RR Player: "Oh? I have no way to assemble it?"
Pure RR Player: "Fine, then I'll set the board first."
Pure RR Player: "I activate the on-field effect of 'Raidraptor – Vanishing Lanius'!"
"I can Special Summon 'Raidraptor – Rudder Strix' from my hand!"
"Now I activate Rudder Strix's effect!"
"When this card is Normal Summoned, or Special Summoned from the hand by the effect of a 'Raidraptor' card: Inflict 600 damage to you."
"Your Life Points are now just 1900."
"So here's the question."
"What remains is Disaster Leo's only material."
"As long as I detach it, I will win."
"I wonder if you've thought of a way to remove that last material from Leo?"
Remove Leo's final material.
Two conditions.
Only this last one remained.
But—how to remove it?
That, instead, became the real puzzle.
ZEXAL World.
When the Duelists of the Xyz world were suddenly faced with this question, they were stunned.
Could it be using the two monsters on the field to make some kind of line to help detach Leo's material?
Or else is there some Graveyard line that can search a Spell or Trap?
Otherwise, that really is a world-class problem.
Even Yuma Tsukumo and Astral felt their brains overheating.
They couldn't think of a way to strip Leo's material in the moment.
"To complete Disaster Leo's alternate win condition—this situation is about the limit."
"As for detaching the material, that'll have to wait until the next turn."
Quinton narrowed his eyes at the board.
Even he hadn't found a way to remove that last calculation in the formula for victory.
"He won't be given time."
"With that many Life Points, on the next turn a Cyber Dragon explode-line won't leave any window."
"This turn, he must decide it."
The white-haired Quinton spoke calmly, pointing out that the Duel had already entered its endgame.
If you don't win, you lose.
There were no resources left to keep trading.
Just when everyone was at their wits' end, Shay Obsidian seemed to realize something, and his face suddenly changed.
As time passed, more and more protagonist Duelists realized it too.
And then, the answer appeared.
Pure RR Player: "I said it already, I'm a pure RR player."
Pure RR Player: "The final victory absolutely won't leave RR out of it."
Pure RR Player: "I activate 'Raider's Wing' in the Graveyard."
"Remember this effect?"
"If this card is in the hand or Graveyard: You can detach 1 material from a DARK Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon this card."
"I choose Disaster Leo and detach its material."
"I Special Summon Raider's Wing."
"My turn—ends."
"Due to Disaster Leo's effect, I win."
...
With Disaster Leo's last effect condition satisfied, the Duel was declared over.
The opponent, who hadn't reacted yet, stood there dumbfounded.
It's over?
The Duel ended just like that?
Disaster Leo.
This victory clause that almost no one ever relies on actually succeeded.
Duel Monsters World.
Yugi Muto's pupils trembled; he had already pieced together the final piece of the victory puzzle.
But to actually see it go off—and to see a very rare victory-by-effect formula written out on the field—made Yugi Muto nostalgic for Exodia the Forbidden One.
Assembling the five-piece formula of victory.
But even in higher formats, Exodia can pull off a one-turn kill.
Whereas this cooperation between Raidraptors and Leo was completely different.
No—wait.
From the very beginning, it seemed this guy had been setting it up.
ARC-V World.
Shay Obsidian also realized the possibility that the RR side had been planning from the start.
Thinking back to that initial "Ultimate Falcon" 1000 burn.
Then Atlandis's burn.
Then Leo's burn.
It seemed from the very start this "pure RR" player was piloting a burn Deck, not "Raidraptors" at all.
Wait, what?
So what does this Deck have to do with Raidraptors?
Even as he complained internally, Shay had to admit that last assist from Raider's Wing was truly a god-tier support.
5D's World.
What shocked Sei Yuki wasn't only that Leo had a special win condition.
It was that Disaster Leo also had targeting protection.
Which means this card isn't so easy to answer cleanly.
And the opposing Cyber Dragon player didn't flip their only Set back row.
Which also means that Set might be a targeting card.
Or it was just a bluff.
Exactly what it was, who could tell?
"Not bad, not bad."
"Even if you can't meet the win condition, Disaster Leo isn't so easy to remove."
"But if you're facing Cyber Dragon, you really do need to be fully prepared."
"Otherwise, one 'Power Bond' into a huge ATK boss, and you're done."
Akiza Izinski finished analyzing the final exchange and couldn't help but marvel.
And all this took only three turns to decide the winner.
Which told them—Duels keep accelerating.
Main World.
Even watching it again, Sei Yuki was still having a blast.
Especially Leo's burn-to-win.
That method—you really don't see it much in Duels.
Exodia's special victory isn't that rare.
Stallers and "Final Countdown" are even more common.
Even "Holactie the Creator of Light" might be more common than this Leo win.
Of course.
"Holactie the Creator of Light" can appear too.
Stuff like "Turn-one Holactie."
Or "One-card Holactie off Little Blue, the Future Dragon King."
Right.
Hold up?
Holactie?
"Little Blue, the Future Dragon King!"
He almost forgot that super high-impact video.
Gotta do it.
Sei Yuki thought of this and quickly started hunting for the video.
He had to give the veterans of the DM and GX worlds a small shock with the Egyptian God Cards—no.
With Little Blue and Holactie.
And the next short video title was—
"The Fall of the Gods! But the Future Dragon King Never Wilts!"
Hold on?
That title?
"The Fall of the Gods"?
"The Future Dragon King Never Wilts"?
A few short words in the title made every Duelist in the DM and GX worlds jolt upright, a chill running down their backs.
What do you mean?
What is this?
"The Fall of the Gods"?
"Gods"?
Which gods?
Could it be—!?
Almost at the same time, the veteran Duelists of the two worlds thought of the three cards that had shaken their entire Duel Worlds.
"Obelisk the Tormentor"!
"The Winged Dragon of Ra"!
"Slifer the Sky Dragon"!
Yes.
Those three God Cards that once dominated the two Duel Worlds.
Seto Kaiba: "Impossible! The fall of the Gods—absolutely impossible!"
Mai Valentine: "Exactly! The Egyptian God Cards are invincible! Did they fall in a higher format?"
Jaden Yuki: "I think it's a joke too; the God Cards are invincible! They can't fall!"
Chancellor Sheppard: "That said, I haven't seen the God Cards in a long time, so… do they still exist?"
Ishizu Ishtar: "The Gods will never fall. We, the Tomb Keepers, can confirm that the God Cards still exist, but they will not appear."
The Duelists of the DM and GX worlds instantly started chattering like crazy in the group chat.
The Duelists of the other worlds were bewildered.
Every Duelist stared blankly at the chat.
"God Cards"?
Are they mixed up?
Are they sure they don't mean the Earthbound Immortals from their world?
Yuma Tsukumo blinked, unable to make sense of the chat.
Yuya Sakaki and Yusaku Fujiki wore odd expressions and quietly lurked without saying a word.
What were they even talking about?
"God Cards"—what on earth are those???
