Chapter 116 - Chapter 116. Blackwing Deck Combo Lines! The New-Era Blackwings Break Crow Hogan!

Chapter 116. Blackwing Deck Combo Lines! The New-Era Blackwings Break Crow Hogan!

As duelists across the various worlds formed their own views on the Numeron Deck,

in the main world,

Sei Yuki quickly pulled up the next short video to play.

The title followed right after Numeron:

"Blackwing Explosive Combo Lines! If you want to pick up Blackwings, watch this video!"

In the 5D's world,

just after finishing the Numeron discussion,

Jaden Yuki, Crow Hogan, and the others immediately noticed the new video's title.

When the words "Blackwing" appeared,

Crow Hogan practically lit up like he'd been shot full of adrenaline.

"Woohoo! It's here, it's here! It's here!"

"My Blackwing Deck! Black Whirlwind!"

"Let me see it! Show me how strong the higher-world Blackwings really are!"

Yusei Fudo and Jack Atlas, standing to the side, were almost startled by Crow.

Even though their Stardust Dragon and Red Dragon Archfiend had already been featured,

they hadn't gotten anywhere near as worked up as Crow, right?

Sure enough.

Bird players are… unique.

Meanwhile, duelists in all worlds turned their attention to the Blackwing video.

The previous Numeron segment showcased a simple, easy-to-grasp full-throttle beatdown plan.

Who knew what kind of deck-building philosophy this Blackwing Deck would show?

The protagonists of each world all had a hunch.

Since Blackwings are a Synchro Deck,

they have to be tied to explosive combo lines.

What needed confirming now was this:

how strong would Blackwings be after they explode into their combos?

In the short video, the Blackwing expert immediately began with some preface notes about the Blackwing suite.

Blackwing Expert: "Good evening, good evening. I'm sure all you cardheads have had a long day!"

Blackwing Expert: "I also believe you clicked this video because you want to use a Blackwing Deck to bring a smile to other Master Duel duelists during your off-work downtime!"

Blackwing Expert: "Before we explain the deck's combos, we first need to understand whether we're playing pure Blackwings, or Blackwings that include external bosses."

"Of course, whether it's in-archetype bosses or outside bosses,"

"a Blackwing Deck absolutely has the power level, and it's a great deck for beginners to get into!"

"The deck itself plays an explosive combo plan—no need to mention the in-archetype Continuous Spell, Black Whirlwind."

"Blackwing – Sudri the Phantom Glimmer is a particularly key extender in-theme, on par with Blackwing – Simoon the Poison Wind!"

"As for the list, I'll put it up now for reference!"

Once the preliminary notes finished and the Blackwing decklist appeared,

the first person to feel something was off—and go slack-jawed—was 5D's own Crow Hogan.

"This is… this is a Blackwing Deck?"

"Wait, how come it feels completely different from my own Blackwings?"

"Where's Blackwing – Shura the Blue Flame? Where's Blackwing – Blizzard the Far North?"

"Where's Blackwing – Bora the Spear? Where's Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind?"

"How are none of them here!"

Crow's once-expectant face instantly froze in disbelief.

He could hardly accept that this Blackwing list was so unlike his.

Especially the low-Level aces he took the most pride in—

not a single copy was included.

That's absurd.

So this Blackwing Deck…

what on earth does it use to explode into its combos?

"Uh, Crow, that's normal."

"Clearly, this Blackwing list is completely different from yours."

"Let's watch the combos and we'll know."

After calming Crow, Yusei also looked curiously at the video.

He was surprised by the brand-new Blackwing construction idea.

He had seen the strength of Crow's Blackwings.

If the construction philosophy is different, the combo lines must be different as well.

In the video, the explanation continued.

Blackwing Expert: "After the list, let's look at a few common combo lines!"

Blackwing Expert: "First up is the one-card Sudri line!"

Blackwing Expert: "We Normal Summon Blackwing – Sudri the Phantom Glimmer!"

"Sudri's effect activates to search Blackwing – Vata the Emblem of Wandering from the Deck."

"We Special Summon Vata.

Activate its effect to perform a 'Deck Synchro' using itself as a Level 2 Tuner, plus from the Deck the Level 2 Blackwing – Chinook the Snow Blast and the Level 4 Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite."

"That lets us Synchro Summon Black-Winged Dragon as a Level 8."

"Continue by using Sudri's effect: Tribute Black-Winged Dragon to Special Summon a Level 2 Tuner Token, and you take 700 LP."

"Now use Zephyros in the Graveyard: bounce the Sudri on the field to Special Summon Zephyros and take 400 LP."

"At this point, the Level 2 Tuner Token plus Zephyros (4) can Synchro Summon Blackwing – Nothung the Starlight."

"This Synchro's value is that it grants an additional Normal Summon."

"Also, on Synchro, it can chip 800 LP from the opponent."

"After that, we Normal Summon Sudri again."

"Use the effect to search the Trap Blackwing – Twin Shadow."

"We activate Blackwing – Twin Shadow from the hand to return the Level 2 Tuner Vata and Level 4 Zephyros in the GY to the Deck, and Synchro Summon a Tuner Synchro."

"Blackwing – Boreastorm the Wicked Wind!"

"Activate Boreastorm's effect to send the Level 4 Tuner Blackwing – Shamal the Sandstorm from the Deck to the GY."

"This changes Boreastorm's Level to 4."

"And Boreastorm counts as a Tuner Synchro."

"Now we Synchro the Level 4 Boreastorm with the Level 6 Blackwing – Nothung the Starlight."

"Our final boss: Blackwing Full Armor Master!"

"Meanwhile, in the GY, Shamal's effect activates.

Banish it to return Blackwing – Chinook the Snow Blast from the GY to the hand, and you take 700 LP."

"We then banish Black-Winged Dragon and Boreastorm from the GY to perform a GY Synchro."

"Here we bring out our second ace monster."

"Black-Winged Assault Dragon!"

"That's the one-card Sudri explosive line.

Please use it as reference, and if you have suggestions, leave them in the comments so we can all become high-level Blackwing cardheads together!"

Stunned.

They were just… stunned.

This single-card line alone left duelists across all worlds completely flabbergasted.

This is Blackwings?

As expected, explosive decks can't be underestimated.

Every single starter can enable a high-quality line.

That one-card Sudri line—

it can do this much with resources?

So this is the Blackwing Deck.

Back in the 5D's world,

the most shocked—unable to keep a straight face—were still the duelists of 5D's.

"GY Synchro from a pile of materials sent to the Graveyard?"

"What is that? You can do it like this?"

"What kind of new-era Synchro method is this?"

"The all-immunity ace, Blackwing Full Armor Master!"

"It even has a Minotaur-type control effect!"

"Then you banish Synchro monsters in the GY for that absurd 'GY fusion' into Black-Winged Assault Dragon!"

"Each time the opponent activates a monster effect, put 1 Black Feather Counter on this card and burn 700!"

"Once it hits 4, you can Quick Effect blow up the whole field!"

Are these all the strength levels of the Blackwing Extra Deck aces?

Yusei and Jack couldn't help but cast odd looks at the now-bewildered Crow.

"Don't look at me! I really can't pull off this many wild lines."

"Yeah, I'm a Blackwing player, but I play classical Blackwings."

"This is clearly a modern Blackwing list. I can't make sense of it at all."

Crow waved helplessly as he watched the one-card Sudri explosion.

All he felt was a wave of bitterness and mixed emotions.

What shocked Crow even more was this:

that combo didn't even make use of Black Whirlwind's search.

Too strong. Seriously too strong.

The video quickly moved to the next combo line.

Blackwing Expert: "That about covers the Sudri line."

Blackwing Expert: "Next is a two-card line."

"Sudri plus the Continuous Spell Black Whirlwind."

"We activate Black Whirlwind first."

"Normal Summon Blackwing – Sudri the Phantom Glimmer and trigger Black Whirlwind.

CL1 Sudri to search.

CL2 Black Whirlwind to search.

Resolve CL2 to take Blackwing – Vata the Emblem of Wandering."

"Resolve CL1 to take Blackwing – Shamal the Sandstorm."

"Activate Shamal: send itself to the GY, then place Black Feather Whirlwind from the Deck face-up."

"This Continuous Spell is different from Black Whirlwind."

"Black Whirlwind searches from the Deck, while this one works with the Graveyard.

You'll see why in a moment."

"Then we Special Summon Vata."

"Use Vata to perform the Deck Synchro."

"In other words, Vata (Level 2 Tuner) plus from the Deck the Level 2 Chinook and Level 4 Zephyros to Synchro Summon the Level 8 Black-Winged Dragon."

"So far, it's the same."

"The difference is, with Black Feather Whirlwind on the field, we can revive Vata from the GY."

"Now the Level 2 Vata and the on-field Level 4 Sudri Synchro for Blackwing – Nothung the Starlight."

"At the same time, we can use Shamal in the GY: banish itself to add back Sudri."

"Because Nothung gives us an extra Normal Summon."

"First, use Zephyros in the GY to return the face-up Black Feather Whirlwind to the hand."

"Then activate Black Feather Whirlwind again, and we Normal Summon Sudri once more."

"CL1 Sudri to add the Trap Blackwing – Twin Shadow.

CL2 Black Whirlwind to add Blackwing – Oroshi the Squall."

"Special Summon the Level 1 Tuner Oroshi, then Synchro it with the Level 8 Black-Winged Dragon."

"One plus eight equals Level 9."

"We make Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss, which gives a Quick Effect negate."

"Next, use Sudri's effect: Tribute Zephyros to Special Summon a Level 2 Tuner Token, then Synchro for Level 6."

"Once again, go into the Tuner Synchro Blackwing – Boreastorm the Wicked Wind."

"Use the effect to send Shamal and make Boreastorm Level 4."

"Then Boreastorm (4) + Nothung (6) Synchro."

"Out comes the all-immunity ace Blackwing Full Armor Master."

"At the same time, Black Feather Whirlwind on the field triggers."

"We revive the GY Nothung."

"And we banish Boreastorm and Black-Winged Dragon from the GY to bring out the board ace, Black-Winged Assault Dragon."

"Combo complete."

When it came to the two-card line,

the shock was even greater than with the one-card line.

With Black Whirlwind online,

the Blackwing board looked even sturdier.

Black-Winged Assault Dragon — 3200/2800.

Blackwing – Nothung the Starlight — 2400/1600.

Blackwing Full Armor Master — 3000/3000.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss — 3200/2500.

This going-first board built from a two-card combo was already enough to make a lot of duelists' scalps tingle.

This sort of first-turn board is completely different from a Stardust Dragon + Red Dragon Archfiend setup.

Stardust is a "negate-and-chill."

This board is a disruption fiesta.

Especially Assault Dragon.

Every time a monster effect is activated, it burns 700.

That means it pressures and interrupts the opponent's lines as they try to play.

And Abyss providing a one-time Quick Effect negate is a very solid key piece of disruption.

When needed, it serves as the terminal interruption.

In the 5D's world,

Crow was completely numb and mentally broken.

So this is the true power of the Blackwing Deck?

Just two cards, and it's already like this.

Crow didn't even dare imagine what a three-card, or even four-card, Blackwing explosion would look like.

Jack patted his shoulder.

"How should I put this? Your Blackwings still needed my Red Dragon Archfiend as the terminal."

"Now do you see whose Deck is stronger?"

Jack's teasing made Crow's face go black on the spot.

"It's not over yet!"

"Keep watching! Blackwings are absolutely stronger!"

Crow rolled his eyes and kept watching.

Blackwing Expert: "There are a lot of two-card lines."

Blackwing Expert: "For example, Blackwing – Shamal the Sandstorm plus Black Whirlwind can also explode."

"Or Blackwing – Saro-sen the Lunar Eclipse with Blackwing – Vata the Emblem of Wandering, etc."

"Of course, these are still two-card ideas."

"We can't rule out having other starters in hand, which can push to a max board of triple Assault Dragon."

"So we need to mention one more important point."

"That is, Simoon plus any Blackwing monster can reach a very large board."

"This is a pseudo one-card line, so I'm covering it here in the two-card section."

"Going first, activate Simoon, banish a Blackwing to place Black Whirlwind from the Deck."

"Black Whirlwind resolves; if you already have Sudri, search something else. If not, search Sudri, then Normal Summon and explode again with Black Whirlwind."

"The search logic is the same, and the follow-ups are formulaic."

"The key difference is whether you end on in-archetype Blackwing bosses, or you pivot into other ace bosses."

"If it's other bosses,"

"you pair Raidraptor – Wise Strix to explode."

"You end on Borreload Savage Dragon + two Black-Winged Assault Dragon + S:P Little Knight + Bystial Dis Pater."

"Savage equips Wise Strix to gain two negations via counters."

"Assault Dragon(s) provide interruptions; Little Knight protects the ace."

"And Dis Pater has a monster-effect negate."

"This board is relatively sturdy."

"If it's pure Blackwings, then it's three Black-Winged Assault Dragons plus Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss to disrupt."

"Every effect activation burns 700.

With three of them, that's 2100 in one go—who can stand that?"

"All right, that about covers the combo ideas.

I hope it helped you cardheads out."

Help?

What help?

The duelists of all worlds felt like their CPUs had been melted by Blackwings.

Especially that pseudo one-card Simoon + Blackwing line.

Without a detailed step-through,

the old-guard duelists could only sit there slack-jawed at the final two board-state explanations.

They didn't understand the steps.

But they understood the boards.

Obviously, the mixed-boss version is a bit stronger than triple Assault Dragon,

but they also had to admit—

three Assault Dragons' burn is a little insane.

Seven hundred per activation.

If the opposing deck relies heavily on monster effects,

triple Assault Dragon is going to be very comfortable.

Back in the 5D's world,

Crow sucked in a breath of cold air.

He was so numb he couldn't even speak.

Looking at his own deck construction and his ace bosses,

Crow forced a bitter smile.

"What's called a Blackwing Deck? This is a Blackwing Deck."
