Chapter 18 - Ch-18 First Skirmish

The Head Iwa Jonin looked at the chaotic scene in front of him. His skin, too, was burnt a bit due to the close proximity of the fire.

His jaw tightened as he looked at the unorganized state of his troops. He shouted, "Everybody, Earth Wall!" His eyes widened as he saw the formation of Konoha.

The ten men who had destroyed Iwa's Earth Wall were now joined by five more. And while the Jonin didn't exactly know what they were up to, he could guess.

His hands blurred in conjunction with the rest of his group. Earth Style — Earth Wall.

Chakra molded within his stomach, and the earth, affected by his hand signs, rose up in a magnificent sight. His wall was different from the rest of the group — tougher, stronger, so resilient it would take immense firepower to destroy it.

Yet his eyes widened when he saw the attack of his enemies.

A combination jutsu? Sweat pooled around his skin as he shouted to his corps, "Everybody—brace yourself!"

A huge wave of fire, fanned by a swift stream of wind, crashed against their walls — and despite the integrity of the Jonin's jutsu, the rest weren't so lucky.

BOOM

Dust spread around the area. Shrapnel and gravel broke apart in every direction.

The Jonin himself barely held his footing, being at the front of the entire group.

Shit… I need to organize them again, we ca— Before he could think further, his stomach nearly dropped. Silhouettes — fast, moving like a blur.

Enemies crossed into their line without an issue. The Jonin himself dodged a kunai as he brought up his own.

His eyes locked onto the battlefield. Despite the dust, he could see the Iwa shinobi chaotically fighting with Konoha.

That's when he realized—

Konoha was controlling the game. And the current stage was close combat....

Kyojiro rushed through the dust, his eyes locking on his first opponent — a bearded ninja with muscular arms.

The man had a small axe strapped to his back, and despite his circular face, he looked terrifying.

A Chunin could always spot a Chunin.

The moment both of them locked eyes, they immediately unsheathed their weapons.Kyojiro reached the man first, his katana swinging through the dust.

SWISH

The man grunted, his axe moving to intercept.Yet Kyojiro wasn't a simple shinobi — he had the skill of one of the greatest swordsmen. He didn't even need to activate his Sharingan. His eyes tracked the axe, thoughts immediately forming in his head.

A forward-heavy weapon. His trajectory is already fixed. His left hand… unguarded. Calculations ran rampant in his brain.

There was something he truly realized once he gained Rengoku's memories.

The sword wasn't meant to cleave through rocks. It wasn't the fastest, the strongest, or the most durable.Yet it did everything very well.

My sword is strong. His katana hit the hilt of the axe with a thud, displacing the blade. My sword is fast. He immediately changed trajectories — a straight jab moving toward the man's throat. My sword is deadly.

PUCHI...

The man, despite his size, moved at the last second. The katana cleaved away a small part of his neck.

Sharp pain coursed through the man's body, his eyes widening as he registered the degree of harm.

His left arm couldn't help but travel to his neck — the warm blood clashing against his rough hands.

He brought his axe forward, his face growing redder with rage. Konoha ninja… how dare you.He was known for his strength in his entire class — his muscles bulged, veins rising on his biceps.

It didn't matter what technique his opponent had — his sheer strength canceled it all.

To this day, he hadn't fought a single Chunin who could best him in combat. And you won't either. His brows clenched, his axe cleaving through the air as he rushed at the fiery-haired opponent.

Die!!!

SWISH

TING

Yet unlike what he thought, his axe stopped mid-swing — its weight halted midair by a katana. His eyes widened as he felt his arms tremble. Am I… losing in a contest of strength?

SWISH

The katana moved like a ghost in the air. His axe was displaced without effort, the blade immediately cleaving through his right hand.

"Arghhh!!" the man shouted, his eyes widening at the stump he once proudly called his arm.

THUD

His axe fell loudly on the grass.

How… how—how—what is happening right now? Shivers ran down his back. The very man who was five inches shorter than him, thin like a twig, had bested him in strength and technique....

Kyojiro sharpened his eyes. He didn't hesitate, didn't think twice. His lungs filled with air, immediately strengthening him.

His opponent might have been bigger and stronger. But so am I. His katana moved like a serpent of death. Before the man could land any more attacks, the blade slashed through his neck — his head falling on the floor like a sack of wheat.

THUD

THUD

It bounced before stopping. Kyojiro's eyes looked at the man's expression with detached curiosity.

His eyes were wide open, his mouth hung in shock. The poor man didn't even have time to process what had occurred.

Kyojiro shook his head. This is war, Kyojiro… people die. And if you don't want to, then you have to kill. He took in another deep breath, vitality filling his lungs.

His legs strengthened, his hearing sharpened. Chakra flowed to his eyes subconsciously — the Sharingan activating with a crimson light.

Before he could find his next opponent, a scream echoed in his ears. His eyes darted around.

Left.An Iwa ninja was about to finish one of his own.

The kunai moved forward in one quick stroke.

Kyojiro didn't know why… but he didn't even think. His figure rushed through the air, his sword moving like an extension of himself.

Only one word remained stuck in his mind.

Protect.

Kyojiro Uchiha might not have been as selfless as Rengoku, but he knew one thing —

The strong are there to protect the weak.
