Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

On the Rooftop of Sobu High School,

The rooftop was a good place to have lunch but very few students ever came here.

The reason? Simple—it was just too far.

When Yuigahama Yui finally pushed open the heavy door to the rooftop, she looked a little flustered.

Akira Fujimiya followed behind her and stepped into the open space.

Yui walked straight to the edge, where she could see the football field down below.

The rooftop was surrounded by tall protective netting, keeping everything safe.

Akira let his gaze drift toward the sea in the distance, remembering how in the anime, this school was described as being close to the coastline. Sure enough, a soft sea breeze brushed against his face.

Subconsciously, he glanced at Yui.

A breeze swept across the rooftop making her skirt fluttered gently in the wind.

"Fujimiya-kun!" Yui turned her head, caught his gaze, and shouted in embarrassment.

"…Reality isn't as beautiful as people think," Akira sighed quietly and walked over to sit on a bench.

"I didn't expect Fujimiya-kun to be that kind of person," Yui pouted, cheeks flushed, before sitting down beside him.

"I'm a boy too, so it's normal for me to have those thoughts. But honestly…" Akira opened his lunch box. "…I think the main reason is you."

"You mean it's my fault?" Yui puffed her cheeks.

"I mean… you're just too cute." Akira didn't even look up from his food.

"E-even if you praise me like that, I… I won't forgive you so easily." Her face grew even redder.

"Want to try some of my lunch?" Akira offered, pushing the box toward her.

Yui peeked into his lunch box and was stunned—it looked way more delicious and varied than hers. She glanced down at her own simple bento and felt slightly embarrassed.

"If you don't taste it, I'll just take it as you have not forgive me, yet," Akira teased her lightly.

"…Fine, I'll try it." Yui quickly picked up her chopsticks and grabbed a piece of omelette.

Her eyes lit up the moment she tasted it, and she immediately picked up a slice of fried pork cutlet next.

By the time she set her chopsticks down, she was smiling brightly.

"…I'll forgive you this time."

"Thanks for your forgiveness, Yuigahama-san. Even though I didn't actually see anything."

"D-do you… want to see it?" Yui muttered shyly.

"I don't want to....and I shouldn't," Akira replied after a pause.

"…Why not? Aren't all boys like that?" Yui's face turned red.

"If I accidentally saw just now, then I'd consider it lucky. But it would also mean I betrayed your trust and let bad thoughts slip in." Akira spoke quietly.

"…Bad thoughts?" Yui turned away, her cheeks glowing redder.

Akira noticed her expression but didn't push further. He simply continued eating his lunch in silence.

Yui hesitated for a moment, then opened her own lunch box, sneaking glances at him as they ate.

The sky was clear, the sea breeze refreshing. It was the kind of weather that made everything feel comfortable.

After finishing their lunches, Akira let out a yawn.

Seeing this, Yui set her box aside, patted her lap gently, and said, "F-Fujimiya-kun… the knee pillow is ready."

"Thanks, but no. Suddenly I don't feel sleepy anymore." Akira shook his head politely.

"Really?" Yui tilted her head at him.

"Really." Akira avoided her gaze.

"Then why won't you look at me?"

"…Because I'm afraid I'll have bad thoughts again."

"C-can't you… be a little braver?"

"I… I've never been in a relationship before. I don't know how to act around girls."

Yui's heart skipped a beat. She hesitated, then slowly moved closer to him.

Akira stretched out his hand.

When his fingers brushed against hers, he gently held her small hand.

Yui didn't pull away. She lowered her head, her entire face burning.

"Fujimiya-kun… this afternoon, are you free?" she asked softly.

"Yeah." Akira nodded.

"Then… can we watch a movie together?"

"....Of course." His voice was calm, but inside, he felt a flicker of warmth.

"…Then, before we go… can I borrow your lap pillow? Just for a short nap." Akira looked at her seriously.

Yui hummed shyly, nodding.

Akira leaned back, slowly resting his head on her lap. The warmth of her thighs was surprisingly comfortable, closing his eyes.

...

Afternoon Classes,

Thanks to his nap, Akira no longer felt sleepy. He only needed five hours of rest each day—missing just one hour the night before had been enough to drag him down, but now he was back to normal.

Yui, however, couldn't focus in class. Her mind kept drifting back to lunchtime, her cheeks keep heating up whenever she remembered.

As She stole glances at Akira more than once.

Akira noticed, but his thoughts were elsewhere.

He remembered Yui's grades weren't great.

Neither were Miura Yumiko's or Ebina Hina's.

"…So love starts with improving grades, huh?" he muttered internally.

If he wanted to raise their favorability, he needed to help them. At the very least, he had to become friends with Ebina.

There was only one logical step.

A name came to mind immediately: Yukinoshita Yukino.

Her grades were top-tier, unquestionable.

Akira himself hadn't yet taken an exam here, so he wasn't sure about his standing. But he knew with certainty if he were the same as before—without help, he'd never reach excellent scores.

Still… with his enhanced memory, he might be able to close the gap quickly.

...

After School,

After sending a message to Yui, Akira left the classroom.

He walked to Yukinoshita Yukino's class, catching sight of her packing her things. She carried her bag and walked out calmly, only pausing briefly when she noticed him waiting.

Without a word, she headed toward the Service Club.

Akira followed. When they were alone in the hallway, Yukinoshita stopped and turned slightly.

"…What do you want?"

"I want to borrow your notes. All of them," Akira said plainly.

"…Reason?" Yukino's sharp gaze fell on him.

"…For love."

Her eyes narrowed, but there was a faint glimmer of curiosity.

"You want to improve your grades first… and then tutor the other person?" she asked, almost amused.

"Yes." Akira reply without flinching.

"It's just notes. How much can you really improve?" she pressed.

"If I don't, then I'll read my light novel aloud to you until you're sick of it," Akira replied seriously.

For a moment, Yukino froze. Then, unexpectedly, the corners of her lips curved into a faint smile.

"…Top ten. If you can't reach that, then I'll listen to your novel."

"…Yukinoshita-san, are you really that kind of person?."

"Fujimiya-kun, it seems you know a little about me?"

"…Just a guess."

"And you guessed right." Yukino brushed her hair back, a amused smile on her face.

"The other side of the Ice princess, huh?" Akira muttered quietly, stepping closer.

Without hesitation, Yukino pulled out all her neatly organized notes and handed them to him.

"This is one of the few benefits of being in the Service Club."

Akira took the notes with both hands.

"…Captain Yukinoshita, for the first time, I feel that joining the Service Club might have been the best decision of my life."

.....

If life were a game, then Akira should have received a system prompt right at this moment.

{"Congratulations to the host. You have obtained Yukinoshita Yukino's notes. Intelligence has increased +10."}

Changing his shoes at the entrance, Akira thought about it with a faint smile.

The notes would definitely help him improve steadily.

But when it came to Yui…

Akira hesitated.

Not about how to get along with her, or how to make her happy. No, what troubled him was—

Do I really want to be with her?

Yui was undeniably cute.

As a girlfriend, she was almost perfect.

But the system would surely push him toward more and more girls, each of them might be just as remarkable as Yui or more.

And he can't decide who will be the target.

He didn't want to be the kind of guy who dated one girl while pursuing others, that would make him no better than a scumbag.

Moreover, he didn't know Yui deeply enough yet. Liking her just for her looks and body… was that really love? Or just shallow attraction? He is not able to figure out which one is it.

"…Fujimiya-kun."

A gentle voice pulled him out of his thoughts.

He turned to see Yui, her face red, hands gripping her schoolbag straps tightly. She looked nervous but cute.

Behind her, Miura and Ebina stood grinning, clearly having teased her before sending her over.

"…Let's go," Akira said softly.

"Mm." Yui nodded with a sweet smile.

...

On the Way to the Cinema,

Yui walked beside him, head lowered the entire time, as if she were staring at her shoes.

Akira glanced at her and wondered if she could even see where she was going like that.

When they passed a convenience store, Akira suddenly stopped.
