Chapter 3 - Screech

Chapter-3

Ravik wasn't sure what went wrong, as he was pretty sure that he didn't use too much ...magic, hell, any for that matter, as he only intended for him to float around for today. But for reasons unknown to him, something went wrong, and his brother is puking his guts out, along with blood. Ravik dangled his head out of the little corner of his, and observed the now-laid brother of his.

What was the difference between this rock and him? Ravik wondered, observing the rock and then his ...victim.

Was it the complicated shape that caused him to apply too much force to it?

Or the fact that his brother was moving around in the air? did it interfere with the force applied ?.

Ravik immediately shook his head at his theories.

He was absolutely sure that he did not apply too much force, and moving about wouldn't effect with the force as he wasn't applying the force directly on him; instead, he was planting an anchor in the middle of his stomach and the surrounding ten to twenty centimeter space, in the form of no gravity suspended bubble, theoretically, with his brother's small size, no mater how much he struggles, he can't reach the edge of the effected space. Granted, some small bits of dirt, rock, and part of the nest did almost float up together with him.

What could it be? He turned and observed his brother before focusing on the little nest of his that was created from 'borrowing a little bit from the rest of his family. After all, with almost all of the chicks gone, they don't need that big of a nest in their cave.

"Was it the density ?" He wondered and started experimenting with the leaves.

Letting it fly around him and observing if it received any tears and cuts upon usage.

And the result was a small, little bit of tear did, for some reason, appear. Very small to the point that if he did not squint his eyes and stare for a good while, he wouldn't have noticed it.

"Is it that without concentrated force, a small bit of force is freely roaming and causing this ?" Ravik nodded as he tried again, but this time, instead of using the bare minimum force to save cost, he used much more and let a bit more solid feature do the testing.

His mother's feather floated and circled him, and on top of him, as Ravik then observed his handiwork. And yes, there wasn't the slightest tear on the feather. Ravik nodded his beak as he observed it. "So I must not use too little force and must not use too much force." Ravik's head sags as he pondered more. "What if this tear is caused because of my lack of control ?, What if, without a certain amount of consciousness and focus, a small bit of energy leaves my control? and that this has nothing to do with a natural phenomenon where two gravity fields collide and some spark ignites in the form of a roaming force ?"

"Well," Ravik turned and started brooding while glancing at his terrified siblings and his paranoid mother. "I would certainly need more ...testing. Though am I being too cruel ?" He pondered, but shook his beak. "Umm, No, this isn't Earth anymore, and I am not a human anymore, so even if I were to do the most heinous of things, it will be within the framework of survival of the fittest." He glanced at the paranoid and almost sad face of his mother and his brother/sister's expression of ...fear. "Maybe, I shouldn't be too ....cruel?" Unsure and uncertain, he turned back to his little corner.

------------------------------------------------------

Fortunately for the chick who got tested by Ravik, he was fine after a day or two of listlessness and during that time, Ravik didn't do anything to them, pondering and deciding that pushing them too much wouldn't work in his favor and sooner or later, they might suspect him. So he stopped his live experiment and decided to focus on other inanimate and little insects. But unfortunately, probably due to how much life force even the frailest of insects had, he couldn't really determine if his control is improving.

"CHICK" "CHIICK"

Ravik shook his head at the chirping that suddenly intensified in volume, part wondering what happened and part just doesn't care. After all, what would one of the chicks falling or one of them bullying one another having anything to do with ...him.

Puff

Suddenly the big sibling of his appeared right beside his little nest, crawling away from something, her feet dragging across the ground, it's humanoid face's pupil dilating and mouth stretched into the form of fear human like fear.

Then he suddenly started hearing the rustling of sound and screeches of his parents and just a second later, an little sibling of his appeared beside them.

"What the ?" Ravik questioned in confusion, and he decided to turn to take a look and the there it was.

An massive snake with green and brown strips were climbing onto the cave entrance, for now only it's head only climbed but soon, judging by it's speed, it would soon completely climb up.

"Tsssss"

The tip of snake tongue danced in joy in Ravik's eyes as the snake eyes him and his siblings, who can't fly and get out the cave. His parent were pecking and attacking the snake, desperately trying to get the snake to fall off, and get away from their children. Especially his mother as she was literally clawing at the body of the snake without care, but the scales of the snake seemed to be evolved to especially endure the cuts and slashes as it without bothering continued on it's journey.

"Quaa Qua"

Ravik's little heart nearly jumped out of his chest, his leg felt weak and visible veins across his body pumped more black blood through his body.

Ravik turned to his sibling, and then the snake, unsure and uncertain what he should do, but he soon calmed down as he realized that, in reality, he didn't have to do much and he formed an simple plan that should take care of the snake.

So, Ravik walked towards the snake in the entrance who almost had one fourth of it's body onto the ledge. His eyes gleaming in joy and excitement as it's tongue flickered faster and faster, akin to heavy breathing. But when Ravik completely revealed itself to the snake by completely getting out of the cave, all the excitement vanished.

Ravik swore, he literally saw the star of excitement and gleam of joy evaporating in it's visible eye as snake continued looking at him. No longer did it continue climbing onto the cave and just continued staring at him.

Under the intense and bright sun, the snake first stared at her prey's empty skull, where an face should be, then black veiny feathers, and the last and the longest of all, the lump all across his body that was breathing and spraying juice every few second. And the little worm like things all across his body, though supposed to be exoskeleton but appeared like an worms that usually appeared on rotting corpses.

The snake stared at him and he stared at the snake, their eyes glued to each other.

Then snake turned his back towards the cave, towards his two sibling, observing them for a bit to make sure that it's food wasn't the abomination that was before him. Already declaring the black disgusting thing as inedible, as she couldn't and would probably be never hungry to eat this ...thing.

The snake stared at the plump body of the chicks in the cave, clean brown feather that adorned the two chick, before glancing back at Ravik with an almost mocking gaze. It's eyes no longer focusing on him the next second as it ignored Ravik and started climbing towards his siblings.

"This..." Ravik didn't know what he should feel, logically, he was supposed to feel relived, after all the snakes didn't seemed to be intent on eating him and so he didn't have to take a risk and do the plan. Not only that, he would be the last sibling of his parent and they should feed him plentiful right ?, though part of him wasn't sure if he will just be not be swept out of the cave when the time came.

But

But He felt his heart tighten, his breath becoming labored as the world dimmed in color. Why did his sibling bore such an beautiful feathers and features, while he is this ugly one that nobody wanted. Even if him being beautiful and elegant is unfeasible and might even be outright impossible, why can't rest of his family also be ugly and disgusting, after all, the misery need accompany. Some part of him still desperately scream why he chose this ugly character.

So he would do it, he would do the plan, and he will make sure that snake would regret calling him ugly, even if it didn't say anything and only spoke using it's body language. Though main reason for his... boldness is the confidence in his plan.

So he materialized an anchor point on snakes body and created an bubble that was of same size as it's body.

He then lifted the snake walked a few steps and let the snake fall to the ground.

Then he returned to his cave while listening to the Tuffff sound of an body falling from over forty meters.

But midway through he stopped to wonder, how did an snake climb this high up ?, is there an ledge or path around here ? Getting worried if there really is an path as it would mean that he wasn't as safe as he though

(Mother Harpy)

She, in downright absolute shock and confusion stared at her ugly chick, who without care threw that predator and enemy of their species to the ground and went back to the cave. Her eyes wide as sausage and her human like face's mouth parted akin to an gap on the ground and her breath hitched down her throat.

She knew of that purple cloud like thing that sometimes appeared on cave, how can she not as it was the most striking feature that exists in only her home. And culprit of that smoke, her ugly chick whose becoming more and more ugly day by day.

She even stopped patrolling around back of the cave for almost two weeks, ever since that chick started spending every speaking moment there.

But that chick, her ugly son just ... just .....

Mother harpy looked at her mate, who was also looking back at her with the same expression. Now getting worried if they will be killed if not enough food is delivered to their ...child.

She sighed, wondering if there had been any harpy in the history of their species that was worried about getting killed by their chick, not even capable of fligth to boot. Or is he ?

She shuddered as she turned around to get some food for the first time in weeks, leaving her husband to take care of the young and rest as he hadn't for quite a long while.

"Four years"

-

"Four years long years that i spend in this new world"

"Four years of discovery and training to become stronger and to gleam more information on this land."

Ravik sighed as he laid on the soft fabric of an hide of an silver white tiger, surrounded by fruits and meat of variety of animals and size. Yet despite being surrounded by absolute luxury by Harpies standard, he wasn't happy, not by an long while. Not because he disliked the soft fabric that was brushing against his back nor the appetizing smell that was surrounding his beak, begging to be eaten, devoured and fill his stomach. But on his magic research that has reached it's limit.

No longer did he feel the rush of excitement and joy as he used to feel in his hatchling years, nor does the excitement spark that light inside him. Now the only things left is his physical body training and mana capacity training, just to last longer and to endure more.

Ravik shook his head and started walking out of the cave, thinking a bit of an physical sightseeing should get his spirit right up and running.

The moment he came out of the cave, the screeching and squalling of dozens upon dozens of harpies greeted his ears and many and many more welcomed his gaze as he roamed about.

The little chicks chirped about without fear on the ground and adult alike traded with one another things that they got with like an human civilization, granted due to only some of the strong among harpies being capable of talk, it was pretty rudimentary as they mostly communicated by body language.

And the moment he came out, visible to all but the little chicks, who was too young to know, the joyful atmosphere shifted and changed in more than one ways.

-----------------

The air suddenly felt heavy and breathing became harder and labored to harpies and one by one they all turned to the cave on the peak of the mountain, where their supposed leader lived. They all instinctively knew who was the cause of this and what was happening.

Surely as they expected their 'Leader' came out and he flew down to the ground with extreme finesse as without even flapping his wings once, he gently floated down to the ground. And he then, started walking.

Instantly, they made space for Ravik and turned their head aside in the form of submission with practical experience and faint shudder, that they just couldn't suppress. His newly formed eyes, armored like eyes that could endure and face injuries much more than any eye should be capable of, observed all who was around him.

His heavy, leather like solid feather that probably evolved due his long years of gravity physical training, touched the ground and left it's mark as his surgery like fingers touched and graced his surroundings.

Huff

Black smoke like breath came out of their leader's mouth and world felt dim around him, and more.

They all did not flee from his presence, nor did they resist him as he circled the market, sometimes his surgery like long cold fingers brushed against the cheek of an young chick. Their mother trembling in anxiety and uncertainty as he circled, the silence becoming more and more deafening, the longer their leader and one of the rare powerhouse of their race touched and stood near them.

And when that petrified chick seemed to finally about to crack, their leader left into the forest. No longer roaming about, the moment he disappeared from view, the young chick puked in disgust, while it's mother rushed to it's chicks side as she helped cover him up. The others, from distance and from afar shook their head, in a heavy sigh, not because they viewed the chick in bad light, but because they know what it feels like, for once, they had also felt it.

That disgusting smell that permeated and challenged the very concept of disgust would first enter one's nose, make them wish they could gag in disgust and just cut of their nose, then it would be the heart pounding weight that would make breathing harder and the blade like sharp, long blades that was sharper than the sharpest of claw would touch and freeze you in both body and mind.

They all know that feeling and they wished to never experience it again. Yet they knew in their heart that they would experience it more and more, as long as they lived in the 'Harpie Paradise'.

From the distance, almost two meter tall, the biggest harpies in the makeshift settlement, and one of the rare Harpies who could speak, sighed with exhaustion. "He is out again, what are you up to this time, Ravik" The big harpy turned to one of her mates, equivalent of male concubine . "Call her mother and sibling, they ought to know what he is up to." Before turning back to her house.
