Chapter 34 - Chapter 22: Justice Has a Long Arm

After being hit by the anesthesia dart, this weight of Wang Jin snake would take at least two hours to wake up. Fan Yajun didn't believe that relying solely on a fine needle could wake it from anesthesia.

But an unbelievable scene occurred. Before the fine needle stopped vibrating, the Wang Jin snake had already awakened from anesthesia, and Xu Chunliang quickly withdrew the needle.

Fan Yajun reminded, "Be careful, it's dangerous."

A snake this size has considerable aggression.

Xu Chunliang smiled and said, "It's okay, I haven't offended it."

Lu Qi said, "Teacher Xu, ask it, who actually killed its partner?"

Fan Yajun glanced at Lu Qi. Even the police believe this now?

Xu Chunliang whispered something, and the snake started moving. Its target was Fan Yajun.

Fan Yajun swallowed. He had never seen such a bizarre situation. Who on earth was this guy? Could he really understand snake language and communicate without obstacles?

Fan Yajun stood there, unable to attack or escape, but fortunately, the snake didn't attack him. It raised its head and flicked its tongue about a meter away, its eyes locked onto him.

Fan Yajun pretended to be calm and said, "It still knows how to hold a grudge."

Lu Qi said coldly, "It probably remembers the hatred of a murdered wife, right?"

Li Zhong and Zhou Meng also arrived, appearing behind Fan Yajun.

Realizing something was wrong, Fan Yajun feigned confusion: "Officer Lu, what do you mean?"

Lu Qi sternly demanded, "What's in your pocket?"

Fan Yajun's heart sank. When he picked up the package earlier, he had paid special attention, and there clearly had been no one around.

Li Zhong said, "If you don't want people to know, don't do it. Fan Yajun, your every move just now was recorded."

Zhou Meng said, "Master Fan, so it was you who killed that female snake."

Sweat beaded on Fan Yajun's forehead as he defended himself, "It wasn't me." He took out the crushed phone packaging box from his pocket: "I picked up garbage to protect the environment, is that wrong?"

Xu Chunliang said, "Why did you intend to kill the Wang Jin snake, which was already anesthetized? Were you worried it would tell me the truth?"

Fan Yajun fully understood now. From start to finish, it was a setup. Earlier, they deliberately separated from him, and the phone packaging box was something they threw there beforehand to catch his eye.

He just couldn't figure out why the snake was there. It was certain they had placed surveillance cameras somewhere nearby.

Cold sweat drenched Fan Yajun's back. While picking up the phone packaging box could still be explained, his intent to kill the Wang Jin snake just now was inexplicable. Lu Qi and his group were too cunning, setting a trap for him to fall into.

Lu Qi said, "You're not just skilled at catching snakes, you also know how to train them. You used your expertise to drive two big snakes to a cell phone store to steal, then used your forestry bureau credentials as a professional snake catcher to transport and release them clandestinely, with an accomplice waiting at the release point to retrieve the loot unnoticed."

Fan Yajun looked innocent and said, "I didn't do it, what evidence do you have?"

Lu Qi yelled, "Are you still not telling the truth at this point? Hand over the stolen goods and give up your accomplices!"

"You're slandering me!"

Xu Chunliang said, "The snake doesn't lie; it said you were the one who sent the couple to the cell phone store to steal. The female snake swallowed ten phones, and you repaid kindness with betrayal after its use was done!"

Fan Yajun now believed about 80 percent. Xu Chunliang really seemed to understand snake language. He drooped like an eggplant hit by frost: "I didn't steal. I just helped transport it to the release point." This statement already admitted his involvement in criminal activity.

Lu Qi and Li Zhong simultaneously stepped forward, with Lu Qi pulling out handcuffs to put on Fan Yajun: "Anything you have to say, say it later."

Fan Yajun surrendered without any aggressive moves. He wasn't stupid; he was surrounded and couldn't escape.

Xu Chunliang came to the king snake and put it in a snake skin bag, saying to Lu Qi, "The thing has been used up, send it to the zoo later."

Fan Yajun was dumbfounded. He always thought this king snake was the original male snake and believed the snake had sold him out completely. But he never imagined they'd mess around with a similar king snake to fool him. Such a plan! Everything was just a trick.

Lu Qi said, "Don't be complacent; we suspected you from the beginning. The law is extensive and leaves no gaps."

Faced with reality, Fan Yajun completely admitted defeat. On the way back, he voluntarily admitted that he was used because of his gambling addiction. However, he was not the mastermind behind the theft; it was planned by Han Tianchi, an expert in snake training. Both king snakes belonged to him, and he paid Fan Yajun three thousand yuan to capture the snake and help him release it.

Fan Yajun claimed he did not know the king snake had stolen so many cell phones, and he had no contact information for Han Tianchi.

Lu Qi knew Fan Yajun certainly hadn't told all the truth. This was a group using animals to commit crimes, and this cell phone theft was likely not their first act.

Although they didn't catch the mastermind this time, Fan Yajun's confession gave them hope. They will follow this clue and investigate further until they catch the entire criminal organization.

Xu Chunliang provided great help in this operation, and all the ideas came from him. Lu Qi offered to apply for a Courageous Act award for Xu Chunliang, but he declined. The reason he helped was because Lu Qi was the first enthusiastic person he encountered in this world.

Xu Chunliang also developed a strong interest in the mastermind Han Tianchi. Someone who could command two large snakes to openly steal is definitely an expert. But why did he kill the female snake after the act? Could there be another reason? The mystery may take some time to unravel.

Ding Si eventually couldn't keep his cool. After the conflict at Min Nan Seafood City, he was simmering with anger and had to get his face back. He wanted to teach Xu Chunliang a harsh lesson and make him beg for forgiveness.

That night, when he wanted to vent this anger during the delivery of public grains, he found himself unexpectedly exhausted and unable to perform, which made him recall the harsh words Xu Chunliang had said before leaving.

Ding Si refused to believe this and tried multiple times, yet was consistently unsuccessful. His wife's disdainful look gave him a second blow.

The next day was the same, and the third day continued similarly, even with different partners. Ding Si started to feel anxious. He finally realized Xu Chunliang wasn't just bluffing to scare him; he truly encountered someone remarkable.

On the fourth day, facing the ongoing lack of progress, Ding Si couldn't wait any longer. He voluntarily went to Changxing Hospital to find Xu Chunliang, and his intention was definitely not revenge.

When Ding Si arrived at the medical office, Xu Chunliang was in the mediation room attending to Wang Dalei. In the medical office, there was only Cheng Xiaohong, as Zhou Wenbin had gone to attend a meeting. Seeing Ding Si appear in front of her, Cheng Xiaohong was somewhat nervous, thinking he came to cause trouble.

But Ding Si's expression was clearly different from that day; he took the initiative to smile at her, a smile that included some embarrassment, "Hello, may I ask if Director Xu is in?"

Hearing his words, Cheng Xiaohong judged that Ding Si was probably not here to cause trouble. He didn't even dare to say Xu Chunliang's full name but politely called him Director Xu, just like Wang Dalei when he came earlier.

"He's dealing with something; why not sit down and wait?"

Ding Si nodded, politely said thank you, and sat on the sofa in the reception area. His legs were together, and his large hands were on his knees, showing some anxiety and unease.

Wang Dalei had just been released after his detention period, and this time he came to Changxing to sign a mediation agreement form, completely admitting defeat. Since Xu Chunliang joined the medical office, its attitude became unprecedentedly tough, and Wang Dalei had suffered under Xu Chunliang twice already. The first time he received two slaps, the second time he was thrown over the back and detained by the police. This period of rights protection was simply a bloody and tearful ordeal.

Mrs. Jiang fainted in the medical office, which had nothing to do with him, but the old lady insisted they scared her. Wang Dalei had never felt so wronged before. After meeting Xu Chunliang, he couldn't forget this incident: "Director Xu, you must have seen clearly that the fainting of Mrs. Jiang had nothing to do with me."

Xu Chunliang smiled, "It's all in the past; why talk about this?"

"But there should be justice, right? One shouldn't unjustly accuse good people. I paid medical expenses, compensated, and finally was detained. I am more wronged than Dou E!"

"What do you want to prove? That you're a good person, that the police mishandled the case, or that our hospital is responsible for Mrs. Jiang's incident?"

"That's not what I mean; I just want to prove my innocence."

Xu Chunliang placed the mediation agreement in front of him, "You can read, right?"

"Who's looking down on whom? I graduated from junior high school." Wang Dalei took the mediation form. His main concern was the amount. The hospital had agreed to give him fifty thousand in order to resolve the dispute once and for all.

But he found the amount reduced from the previous fifty thousand to thirty thousand.

Wang Dalei was furious, "What is happening here? Initially, it was agreed to be fifty thousand, why is it now thirty thousand?" Initially, Wang Dalei offered a price of two million, though he knew better than anyone that his father's death had nothing to do with Changxing. But facing such a good opportunity to make money, he had no reason to pass it up.

Xu Chunliang said, "The hospital indeed agreed to fifty thousand, but you didn't accept it."

"I agree now, you can't backtrack, that's excessive!"
