Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Ghoul

In the bathroom, Wang Hao was cleaning the filth off his body while checking his left hand.

After being exposed to the purified air for three hours straight, his hand showed no abnormalities.

He didn't feel anything at all.

This means that direct skin contact with the purified air shouldn't be a big issue.

The official broadcasts didn't mention avoiding contact with the mist, just that excessive inhalation could cause hallucinations or even unconsciousness.

Wang Hao even thought that breathing purified air might not be much of a problem.

After all, not everyone has the same sealed conditions as he does.

Some outside air would inevitably enter any room. If there were issues, there wouldn't be many survivors in this world by now.

And they wouldn't be talking about post-disaster rebuilding on the broadcasts.

"I'll skip the protective suit for now; to be safe, I'll just use some oxygen."

Wang Hao finally decided not to wear the protective suit.

It was just too troublesome.

But he still needed oxygen; with an oxygen machine, it didn't matter much.

Thus, Wang Hao holed up in the rooftop room for three days and nights.

The pressure from Lin Yuennan was still quite substantial.

He barely slept during these three days and nights.

He focused on absorbing Spiritual Power to strengthen his body.

Thanks to the previous command, he had been training his body and was in much better shape than those sub-healthy office workers.

Even though he didn't have eight-pack abs, he did have six.

The Spiritual Power cleansing expelled a large amount of harmful substances from his body, reducing his body fat percentage even more.

He looked even more handsome and fit than before.

If it were before the apocalypse, finding a sugar mama would be a breeze.

"So this is cultivation? I wonder if it can extend my lifespan like in those cultivation novels?"

Wang Hao was gobbling down food in the dining room while daydreaming.

He thought that he should be able to take on three adult men now without a problem.

Don't think this is too lame.

You have to understand, he just started cultivating!

He believed he would become stronger over time.

As for extending his lifespan, he was sure it had increased since his body was healthier.

Even if it hadn't directly increased his lifespan, it was indirectly.

"Hmm... the speed is still too slow; I wonder if finding other sources of the Blade of Plunder would speed up the cultivation?"

It's true; humans are greedy creatures.

Feeling the benefits of Spiritual Power, Wang Hao started thinking about other sources.

His gaze unconsciously turned outward.

The villa area didn't suffer much from meteorite impacts, and the mist was relatively thin.

After so many days had passed, it dissipated a little more, and you could vaguely see some things.

To obtain the sources, he would have to venture out.

He wasn't afraid in the villa, but once he stepped outside, it would be dangerous.

With his current strength, handling a few ordinary people was no problem, but dealing with someone like Brother Wolf, a retired soldier, was more challenging.

Facing someone like Lin Yuennan, a special forces soldier, he probably wouldn't stand a chance.

[Brother, brother, if you receive this, please respond. If you receive this, please respond.]

[Brother, brother, this time it's truly important. Please respond to Yaoyao, I'm begging you.]

During these three days, Sun Yaoyao occasionally called out to him.

But Wang Hao was busy cultivating and ignored her.

[Alright, what's up?]

Wang Hao hesitated for a moment but decided to respond.

It's better not to burn bridges if it can be avoided.

After all, Lin Yuennan is an active-duty special forces soldier, and since they could live in Moon Viewing Garden, their family must have a strong background.

It's possible they could call for some reinforcements.

The mist was about to clear soon.

If things got too tense, and they called in the regular army, it would be a problem for him.

Moreover, he needed to resolve the Lin Yuennan threat for his eventual search for other sources.

[Some areas have unknown monsters that attack humans and devour their flesh. The victims then resurrect and become zombie-like creatures, continuing to attack humans.]

"Hiss———"

Wang Hao gasped, his eyes widening and his heart racing.

Unknown monsters?

Zombies?

What was going on?

After a brief shock, a faint smile appeared on his lips.

If what Sun Yaoyao said was true, the world was truly ending.

Many of his concerns were alleviated.

[The broadcast didn't mention this! Are you trying to bluff me?]

After snapping back to reality, Wang Hao asked, somewhat doubtful.

[Come on, Yaoyao wouldn't lie. My cousin found out through an encrypted internal channel. Since it's happening on a small scale, governments worldwide are organizing their military forces to try to eliminate them, so it hasn't been broadcasted immediately to prevent global panic.]

[What kind of monsters are they? Where did they come from?]

[They're said to have come with the meteorites. Some large meteorites are like big caves, and these creatures seem to climb out from them. They look similar to ghouls from games, incredibly ugly, short in stature, like big dogs.

Their strength isn't remarkable; an average adult with weapons can handle one or two. But they come in large numbers, and with the mist around, anyone venturing out for food can be ambushed. Plus, ordinary people don't have the guts to face them head-on. Once they turn to run, they're pretty much doomed.]

"Ghouls?"

Wang Hao's eyes darted around, and he felt a slight sense of relief.

If Sun Yaoyao's account was accurate, then his place was safe.

Even if a ghoul army came, it would be tough to breach his villa.

And those mindless zombies posed even less of a threat.

[Brother, can't we cooperate?]

Seeing Wang Hao fall silent, Sun Yaoyao spoke up, sounding pitiful.

[Cooperate? How?]

[We've shared such vital information to show our sincerity. Although governments worldwide are trying to deal with the ghouls and those zombies, I think it's too challenging. Before the meteor shower, there might have been a chance; now, most nations have little combat power left. We must band together.]

[Hmm... well said, I can feel your sincerity. So how do you want to cooperate?]

Wang Hao was quite interested in the two girls, Sun Yaoyao in particular.

In an apocalypse, having a doctor by your side is invaluable.

[Brother, can't we move in with you?]

Sun Yaoyao sounded pitiful, making one last effort.

[Not yet.]

[Alright, we can provide you with medical services. My cousin is a special forces soldier, and we have some weapons at home. From a high vantage point, we can take on the surveillance and defense of your villa.]

Sun Yaoyao listed what they could offer.

Wang Hao found himself quite tempted.

Some weapons?

Could they have sniper rifles?

If they did, enemies might never even get close to his villa.

While he had set up many defensive measures around his villa, repeated attacks could deplete them.

Having such a long-range sniper point guarding the place would put his mind at ease.
