Chapter 9 - Madness 2

What made the situation even worse, was that due to the grey wolf's abnormal body size, he wasn't able to use his left hand to reach its head from his current position.

Improvising on the spot, Gaston used his left arm to stab into its back!

To his surprise, the knife met with a lot of resistance upon hitting the wolf's body, only making it a third of the way in on his first attempt.

This was quite the surprise for Gaston when he compared it with how easily the pigeon's claws had ripped apart this same flesh he was trying to stab.

Aside from surprising him however, the wolf's abnormal durability had no impact on his actions.

Stabbing the knife into the wolf's back wasn't just do hurt it, that was only an additional benefit.

The real purpose behind this, was to allow his body to remain on the wolfs back, and even begin climbing upwards using the knife as leverage to pull himself up.

And for this, whether or not the knife was fully inside the wolf didn't matter.

"Woo~!"

The wolf released a pained cry as it felt its body get stabbed by something once again.

The knife's blade successfully penetrated into its back, even if it did require a lot more force than Gaston was expecting it to.

He had no way of comparing his current knife with the one he used to use on Earth, but he didn't think it was any less sharper.

It only made it even more surprising that he struggled to get the knife all the way in, since compared to Earth, he for whatever reason felt that he was a lot stronger now than he had ever been.

Despite this unwelcome surprise, his actions hadn't been delayed for a moment.

As soon as the knife went in its back, the wolf reacted on instinct.

It had been slashed at by those nasty claws for quite a while now, so it knew that it was not the pigeon that was responsible for this attack.

It immediately let go of the pigeon and pulled its head back, snapping its head towards whatever was behind it.

The second it pulled its head back towards him however, Gaston was ready for it.

He pulled the knife out of its back and having already pulled himself up along its back, the second it's head came within his reach, he stabbed the knife precisely in the middle of its skull.

But, things didn't go quite as he envisioned them to.

To his surprise once again, the skull of the wolf proved to be too hard for the knife to fully penetrate, getting stuck while it was only a quarter of the way in.

The wolf instantly went limp, however whether it was dead or not was unknown.

Not willing to take that chance, Gaston grabbed back onto the hilt of his knife, intending to stab it until he was sure it was dead.

To his horror however, not only were his attempts at pushing the knife deeper into the wolf's skull unsuccessful, he also couldn't pull the knife out.

It was as if it was firmly rooted in place.

His attempts at getting it out did little but provoke a small reaction out of the wolf.

'It's still alive...'

Gaston thought to himself, as dark thoughts started filling his head.

If the wolf woke back up, he would be in real danger, especially now that he had nothing to attack it with.

"Haah..."

In the face of his current predicament, Gaston wasn't afraid.

It was the complete opposite actually.

With a barely noticeable sick and devious expression on his face, Gaston licked his lips as he looked at the wolf that was gradually regaining consciousness.

At this moment, he had lost all sense of humanity, with only the thought of killing remaining in his mind.

Devoid of any logic or reason, in a shocking move, Gaston let go of the knife and instead opened his mouth as wide as he could, before biting down on the throat of the wolf!

Perhaps even more shocking, was the fact that his teeth could do what his knife couldn't!

Biting into the grey wolf's throat, Gaston felt no sense of resistance, tearing apart the wolf's throat with the same ease that the wolf ripped apart the pigeon's throat with.

The wolf's blood sprayed all over his face, but lost in the sense of pleasure that he felt from killing this wolf, Gaston didn't even notice.

That wasn't the only thing that Gaston failed to notice however.

Far more important than getting a bit dirty, was the fact that the wolf's blood was corrosive!

Previously, Gaston had been too focused on observing the confrontation and then battle between the two oversized creatures, to notice that wherever the drops of wolf blood landed, the land would end up a bit damaged.

And if a few drops of wolf blood could damage the ground, than with the amount of blood that was on Gaston's face, disfigurement would actually be the most optimistic outcome.

With the far more likely one, being his death.

And that was only considering the wolf blood that sprayed on his face.

Taking into account the equally as large, if not even larger, amount of wolf blood that he ended up swallowing on accident while he was feasting on the wolf's throat like a wild animal, his chances of survival were zero.

And yet, none of that happened.

As soon as the drops of blood came into contact with him, a slight brown glow appeared and restrained the wolf blood's corrosive properties.

If he was still present mentally, he would potentially awaken another memory and recognize that this was the instinctive layer of energy that all cultivators possessed.

It was what separated mortals from immortals.

Unfortunately for Gaston, he was too busy to notice.

Wrapped up in the thought of killing and drinking the blood of his prey, Gaston gradually lost his sense of reality and awoke another memory.
