Another thing he was looking forward to, was finally getting a hold of a real, official cultivation technique.
One that actually mentioned and taught him what to do now that he had successfully introduced magical energy into his body.
After all, no matter how good of a container his body had been shaped as, without the means to fill it, it was practically useless.
Aside from the lack of experience in fighting with magical energy, this was probably the most important contributing factor behind his inability to mow through Blue Apes at his level like cutting through grass.
At the very least however, a lot of his combat experience, as well as who he had become, had returned to him now.
In truth, Gaston felt strange about the situation.
Rather than the return of a distant memory that he had forgotten, he felt as if he had awakened once again, and returned to who he really was.
It was his real world self that felt alien to him, as he had, albeit for only a short little while, returned to being the man that he was 30 years ago, when he had just entered this world.
Looking back on his most recent actions, especially those in the face of the wolf and the pigeon, he felt a sense of déjà vu.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried to recall the events from 30 years ago that he felt were oddly similar to this, his memories from that far back were still very blurry.
Shaking his head, Gaston opened his eyes once again, looking down at the campfire that was still burning bright.
'Being hunted down by Blue Apes all over the forest, my stupid amnesiac self actually thought to light a fire so big, that they couldn't miss it if they tried.'
Gaston put a hand to his face, ashamed of the fact that any version of himself, with memory or not, would decide to do this.
'I didn't know of my situation, so I shouldn't place too much blame on myself. All that matters right now, is that I'm still alive.
'To keep myself alive however, I'll need to get moving quickly. If the Blue Apes weren't hot on my trail already, they definitely are now.'
Not everything was doom and gloom though, as the discovery of the wolf and the pigeon was very, very good news.
Gaston hadn't seen a single creature aside from the Blue Ape during his entire stay here in this forest, so it could be imagined how happy he felt to see something new after all that time.
Even if, both the wolf and the pigeon, looked to be far more dangerous than any Blue Ape he had seen so far.
The smoke the amnesiac version of himself had seen, paired with the sudden appearance of two new species, only further confirmed his earlier speculations.
He was near that village that they had made plans for, and if anybody else from his crew managed to survive and escape from the Blue Apes, then they were probably here too, if not somewhere near by.
'It's just a pity that my memory of what we discussed regarding our plans for the village is still blurry.'
Knowing himself, he could probably get a general idea of what they intended to do, but it was still a shame that he couldn't precisely remember.
Getting ready to get out of his neatly camouflaged place on the tree, a few dozen meters away from the ground, Gaston quickly stopped himself after spotting something on his second quick check of his surroundings.
The wolf jerky that he had left near the campfire was untouched, as was everything else, including the two corpses.
What made his eyes widen for a moment however, was the discovery of an all-too familiar looking footprint, not too far away from the campfire.
It was barely noticeable, since it was mostly covered by the grass.
If it was in any other location, there was a good chance that Gaston would still be unaware of the fact that Blue Apes had passed by here, but fortunately, or even unfortunately, given what his plans were, the footstep led to the direction of the smoke.
The same smoke that he had already convinced himself he had to go to, at least to check it out if anything.
If it turned out to be the village that they had been going towards, and he ended up skipping it due to worrying about encountering the Blue Apes again, he was sure that he would regret it.
Especially considering the fact that the rest of his crew was probably there if they were still alive.
It was true, that on one hand, they had been total strangers to each other back on the Poisoned Continent, knowing nothing about each other except for what their reputations spoke of them.
But what they went through on that Ancient Ship, that bonded them together.
Even someone like Gaston, who even now, would not hesitate to sacrifice them under the right circumstances, would at least hesitate for a moment before making the decision.
Or maybe that's what he told himself, as a way to not completely cast aside his humanity.
In truth however, he knew that whilst he wouldn't like for it to come to that, it would be an easy decision to make for him, if it ever did.
It would not be anything he hadn't done before, even if he still couldn't remember the specifics of his more distant past, that much he was sure of.
Aside from being a nice little luxury he could afford himself, having them around was also of great benefit, both for the present and the future.
He couldn't imagine himself surviving the pursuit of the never-ending Blue Ape hunting parties, even for a week, much less for several months, without their help.
Even now, he still had no idea how he was still alive, with what he assumed were weeks after being separated from the others.
Now that the end of his stay in this forest was seemingly going to come to an end soon, and he would finally enter into human civilization, he still found far more pros then cons about their existence.
Talented as he probably was, entering the dangerous cultivation world as a lone Elite level 1 Qi cultivator was still far too dangerous for his liking.
