Another knock came at the door before either of us could move toward the books Henrik had brought.
Raizel went to answer it again, and I heard Henrik's voice through the opening, quiet and respectful as always. When Raizel turned back to me, he was holding a single letter, the seal already broken from inspection.
"It's for you," he said, crossing the room to hand it to me. "From Dravenshire."
Dravenshire. That was where Cassius lived now with his husband.
I took the letter carefully, surprised that he would write to me at all. We'd never been close, had spent most of our lives existing in parallel rather than actually connecting as brothers. What could he possibly want to say to me now?
I unfolded the paper and began reading, and with each line my throat got tighter and my eyes started to sting with tears I hadn't expected.
