Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: The persistence of pain

As Loma was handed over to Darok and Sylven, Sylven gave a subtle signal, and together they started to move, carrying Loma's broken body with them.

They approached the main gate. The iron doors stood tall, humming faintly as the night air pressed in. For a moment, the guards' eyes lingered too long on the signed paper in Sylven's hand. Silence hung sharp.

Then—

With a deep metallic groan, the gates of Seikou Heights slid open. A faint gust carried out the stench of rust and prison stone.

Just like that, the escape was underway.

Darok's voice cracked the silence, low but heavy with restrained fury.

Darok: "I'm taking him home with me… What did they do to him…?"

Sylven (eyes shadowed, voice calm yet bitter): "Even I couldn't stand it. That's why I teamed up with you. The Azure Fangs… they're nothing but worthless scum."

Darok (sharp, eyes burning): "Yeah."

Sylven slipped a folded card into Darok's hand.

Sylven: "That's my number. Call me whenever you need me."

Darok gave him a firm nod.

Darok: "I appreciate it."

With that, Sylven vanished into the night, while Darok split away, carrying Loma toward the hospital as fast as possible.

The moment they arrived, doctors rushed Loma into the emergency room.

Time crawled.

Darok's rage only grew darker with every second ticking by. His fists clenched, veins pulsing, his jaw set like stone.

Darok (growling under his breath): "I'll cut down every last one of you Fangs…"

Finally, a doctor approached, sweat on his brow.

Doctor: "The surgery was a success. He'll recover… in time. But he's been pushed to his limits."

Darok's hardened expression eased—just slightly. For the first time that night, he let out a long, exhausted sigh.

[Scene shift – Cho Family Estate]

Moonlight spilled into the vast hall of the Cho estate. At the far end, Hwang Cho lounged on a throne-like chair, draped in shadows, a crystal glass swirling in his hand. His posture was regal, almost bored—yet his eyes gleamed with cruel amusement.

He took a slow sip, the faint clink of glass echoing through the silent chamber.

A smile tugged at his lips as he murmured to himself, voice low, dangerous:

Hwang Cho: "He survived… persistent, isn't he?"

The words lingered in the air, cold and heavy—

A promise that this was only the beginning.
