Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Escape from Death

At the entrance of the department store, the ground was strewn with zombie corpses, black blood seeping into the white marble tiles.

A slender young man in a hood stood among the bodies, his clothes stained with black blood. He looked at his phone, disdainfully saying:

"They're just ordinary people, not worth mentioning. Of course, only ordinary people would be so ostentatious. Their view of the world is too small."

"This steel rod is really durable. It seems this world's technology is quite remarkable." A burly man glanced at the still-straight steel rod in his hand, then continued:

"I think his power is much stronger than that of ordinary people. In such a situation, an ordinary person would have let go long ago, and he certainly has guts."

The young man in the hood ran a long, white hand through his hair in dissatisfaction: "Can you stop grossing me out by praising some trash? By the way, how much longer for those guys?"

"If they still don't show up, I'll definitely kill them!"

He suddenly opened his bloodshot eyes, filled with madness.

At this moment, teasing voices came from afar.

"Oh, oh, some people are boasting again."

"Da da da!"

A girl wearing a red T-shirt, blue pigtail, and with heavy dark circles under her eyes, hummed a strange tune, walking briskly from afar with empty hands.

Her walking style was quite exaggerated, like a mime artist.

Upon hearing this voice, the young man in the hood immediately calmed down, offering a harmless smile: "Haha, I'm just worried about you."

The frequency of falling zombies from above was increasing, leaving Su Changxing less and less room to dodge.

A look of ferocity flashed in his eye; he suddenly relaxed his hands, his body accelerating downward again. With great friction, his clothes were quickly worn down, and a scorching pain spread from his palms.

Su Changxing was still halfway from the ground, nearly 10 meters away.

This was a risky move but the only choice because at any moment he might be hit by a falling zombie, so it was better to take a chance.

A zombie brushed against Su Changxing, almost making him slip, and sped up his fall again.

As his descent accelerated, Su Changxing lost all control, merely exerting every effort to grasp the rope to slow his speed a bit.

A few seconds later, a massive pull suddenly came from the waist rope, causing Su Changxing to sway in mid-air half a meter from the ground, his waist aching with the sway.

"Thankfully, the distance was estimated almost accurately, if the length of the climbing rope had been any longer, I would have hit the ground."

Su Changxing casually untied the slipknot around his waist, dropped to the ground with his feet, and surveyed his surroundings. These fallen zombies hadn't died; some, with crushed lower halves, were struggling, crawling toward him, while others could even stand up.

"They're damned persistent."

Su Changxing cursed, swiftly drew the hatchet from his backpack, split the skull of a nearby zombie, and bolted toward the street ahead.

Due to the many surrounding zombies, it wasn't long before a large number of zombies were tailing Su Changxing, and there were more and more.

At this moment, Shen Jinxuan uploaded the third video.

Su Changxing's maneuver was visually stunning, feeling as if in a Hollywood blockbuster, instantly prompting thousands of replies.

Reply 1: Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap, how can an ignorant person like me express anything other than holy crap.

Reply 2: What is this, am I watching a movie? Don't deceive me with movies.

Reply 3: It's got my blood boiling, I'm going outside to fight the zombies three hundred rounds now.

Reply 4: Calm down, brother; you only live once. Those who can talk are alive.

······

"Oh shit, why are there so many zombies?"

Su Changxing glanced back, jumped in fright, shouted, and accelerated forward.

Little did he know, this shout only attracted more zombies.

He bit his teeth to the point of pain, running silently forward.

With a power level of four, Su Changxing's speed was faster than ordinary people. Before night fell, the zombies couldn't keep up with him.

After running for over ten minutes and passing two streets, Su Changxing left the zombies far behind. With the vehicles' cover, he could no longer see them at all.

Another ten minutes passed, with only scattered zombies still trailing him, mostly attracted from nearby.

"Finally, I shook them off."

Su Changxing panted heavily, steam visibly rising over his head. Sweat soaked through his shirt, but he still squeezed the last bit of strength, raising the hatchet and cleaving at an oncoming zombie.

"A steel saber works better; the hatchet's sharpness and weight are lacking, the only advantage is its convenience."

Su Changxing withdrew the hatchet, drawing out black blood as the zombie fell. Along the way, he had dealt with four or five zombies.

After hacking multiple times, he noticed the zombies' weak spot was in the right hemisphere of their brain, slightly toward the front.

As long as that spot was hit, zombies would die instantly as if powered off, though a human brain would also die if split open.

But there's a difference; if the right hemisphere is avoided and only the left hemisphere attacked, zombies won't die.

This made Su Changxing feel these zombies were more like machines than living creatures, with the right hemisphere being their core.

Having just dispatched a zombie, four or five more followed from behind. Although his stamina was mostly spent, Su Changxing wasn't prepared to retreat. If he kept running, there would always be zombies in pursuit.

He spent thirty points exchanging for a steel saber in the store; with a flash of light, a brand-new steel saber appeared on the ground.

Su Changxing picked up the steel saber, actively charging at a zombie, cleaving its skull to finish it. Then, dragging the saber, he retreated, regrouped, and hacked at another zombie.

Relying on his speed advantage, he engaged in skirmishes, maneuvering to face each zombie one by one. After a few minutes of this, Su Changxing finally dispatched all five zombies.

The wide outdoor space gave him room to maneuver. If he had faced five zombies at once inside a building, it likely would have been a dead end.

After the steel saber was driven into the last zombie's skull, he collapsed on the ground, panting heavily, vision dim, seeing the orange sunset turn bluish-green.

"Damn, almost fell asleep."

Seconds later, Su Changxing jerked awake, slowly rising to lean against the front of an abandoned car, resting, observing his surroundings.

He knew this place was dangerous, zombies could come at any moment. Now was not the time to relax; to survive, he needed to be steady and cautious, always staying vigilant.
