Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Do Your Best, Leave the Rest to Fate

Inside the house, because of a suggestion made by Wang Jia Bao without getting angry, a hornet's nest was stirred up, Liu Yulan barefooted, with a shoe in hand, chased after Wang Jia Bao, hitting him, while Wang Jia Bao stubbornly insisted he was right, running as he spoke.

Wang Miaomiao, however, thought of more. From what she read in the book from Central Plains, during the time when Wang Zhaodi was being courted, actually Wang Pandi was also secretly seeing someone.

The book did not mention today's confrontation; it only mentioned that Wang Zhaodi had driven away the suitor introduced by Liu Yulan. Shortly after, Li Yinfeng introduced another family to her, but because they couldn't agree on the bride-price, things ended unhappily. Liu Yulan wanted an 88-yuan bride-price and a watch, but the other party didn't agree.

Wang Zhaodi felt Liu Yulan was deliberately making things difficult. Even if she received the bride-price and the watch, it wasn't possible for her to carry them as a dowry back to her husband's family. Why should she make it cheap for her and burden her future in-laws?

So, after a few days of mental struggle and repeated discussions with Li Yinfeng, she ran off to the man's house overnight without proper matchmaking or a marriage proposal, turning raw rice into cooked rice.

In this era, improper behavior is a big issue.

Wang Baoxing was so angry he nearly vomited blood, but he said nothing, made no demands, and hastily organized their wedding. Once the household registration was moved, it was done.

And during this period, Wang Pandi grew very close to a Zhiqing, but this Zhiqing was actually ambiguous with several girls.

The story ended here; she didn't read the subsequent chapters and then crossed over.

But she knew that this Zhiqing wasn't good... How could she make Wang Pandi give up on the Zhiqing?

Wang Miaomiao thought for a while, then began to act, "Alright, mom, stop it, don't hit. Jia Bao, stop running, don't tire mom out."

"Hmph, I'm so angry, always speaking without a filter, all grown up already." Liu Yulan panted heavily, then stopped, not forgetting to rebuke Wang Jia Bao.

Wang Jia Bao wanted to retort but was stopped by Wang Miaomiao, "Enough, you say less."

Then she turned to Liu Yulan with a smile, "Mom, don't be mad. Actually, when I think about it, Jia Bao's words are both right and wrong."

"What do you mean?" Everyone looked at Wang Miaomiao.

"I'm saying Jia Bao should be hit. What do you mean by 'Big sis doesn't want to give to second sis'? Are people objects that can be passed around?" Wang Miaomiao looked at everyone and suddenly smiled, "Besides, that man wasn't someone big sis rejected; he wasn't interested in big sis either. How can she say she doesn't want it? That man fought on the battlefield, a genuine hero defending the country."

"Exactly, exactly, big sis really didn't know what was good." Wang Jia Bao echoed, as boys always had hero dreams. In those days, being a soldier was sacred, and many people wanted to but couldn't find the path.

Wang Miaomiao smiled and continued, "Besides, the phrase 'give to second sis' isn't right. These days, marriage freedom is advocated; arranged marriages are not acceptable. However, meeting is still possible, whether it works out is another matter. Alas, if I weren't too young and still wanting to go to high school, plus the fact they wouldn't wait for me for three years, I would also want to try..."

"What? Third sis, you..." Wang Jia Bao exclaimed, and everyone else was also stunned by Wang Miaomiao's startling words, staring wide-eyed and mouth agape at her.

"Oh, I'm just thinking, it's a pity, wonder if I will meet such a good man in the future." Wang Miaomiao said with slight regret.

"Third sis, is he really that good, even you..." Wang Jia Bao shook his head incredulously.

"Why not, listen to me analyze for you." Wang Miaomiao thought to herself, this brother is so supportive, picking up this conversation so well...

"First of all, his family's and personal conditions speak for themselves. Jia Bao just stated correctly, there's no one better within ten miles. Let me tell you about his hidden good conditions..."

"A hidden good condition? Quickly tell us, what is it?" Everyone was intrigued by her words.

"He retired due to an injury, right? So what work does he do now that he's returned? He can't just be a farmer working in the fields, there must be an arrangement by the organization..." Wang Miaomiao looked at Zhou Fengjuan.

Zhou Fengjuan, uncertain, said that the introducer hadn't specified but mentioned he was still waiting for an arrangement. "It's arranged, er... I need to ask clearly. When my aunt told me, she only said he goes to town every day, it's been a month, and who knows if the job's settled..."

"There will definitely be a job, and it's an iron rice bowl," Wang Miaomiao affirmed, "He came back having made great achievements, the organization will definitely arrange it well. That's the hidden advantage I'm talking about. If he goes to town every day, maybe his job is there, and wouldn't starting a family with him allow a household registration to move to town?"

Seeing they were listening intently, Wang Miaomiao continued her storytelling, "Wouldn't having a household registration in town potentially mean setting up a home there? Wouldn't the young couple no longer have to live with in-laws? Historically, relationships between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law or sisters-in-law are major headaches, and this would solve it. Also, he likely has connections, could he find work for his spouse too, maybe an iron rice bowl position in town?"

Wang Miaomiao's mind was racing, and as she spoke she kept sneaking glances at Wang Pandi. She noticed her mood visibly shifted at the mention of 'town', 'work', and 'iron rice bowl'.

"Indeed, it is possible, with the right connections, this could really happen. Hey, you girl, you've really got a brain..." Zhou Fengjuan seemed to believe it.

Wang Miaomiao chuckled it off, what she was doing was wild guessing, fabrication. However, networking, no matter the era, always worked; it just depended on the connections' strength and reach, whether things worked out or not.

She knew the reason Wang Pandi fell for the Zhiqing was because the Zhiqing described a beautiful future, going to the big city, living an urban life, introducing her to a respectable city job. Ha... silly girl believed it.

Of course, saying this wasn't enough, as Yang Zhigang might not fancy her second sister; the main aim was for her second sister to give up on the Zhiqing.

Using Yang Zhigang as a comparison, she mentioned the Zhiqing, "Sigh, Yang Zhigang has a solid iron rice bowl, far better than that trickster Meng Zhiqing who just talks nonsense."

"Why talk about Meng Zhiqing all of a sudden?" Women are gossipy, and even Liu Yulan couldn't resist the curiosity to ask.

"I heard it, but don't spread it..." Wang Miaomiao said mysteriously, "I heard Meng Zhiqing is dating Li Xiaohong from the village, and he promised her a future in the big city, living well. Isn't this ridiculous..."

When Wang Pandi heard this, her face went pale, looking concerned, "Who did you hear this from? How is it ridiculous?"

Wang Miaomiao innocently glanced at Wang Pandi, "My classmate, uh, can't tell you who said it, I promised not to spread it."

When Wang Pandi thought about it, she knew it must be the Li family, surely Li Xiaohua. Li Xiaohong is her cousin, so it must be true.
