Chapter 37 - The final Roud

The arena was quiet, save for the crackle of energy and the low hum of the containment barriers. Dust hung thick in the air, smoke curling from scorched stone and molten fissures. Every spectator—human, awakened, and divine—leaned forward. This was the moment the Awakener Gathering had built toward for three years.

Kairis Ash, Apostle of Void, stood at the center. His cloak flared slightly with subtle gravitational shifts, brownish-black eyes calm but alight with violet as his body radiated controlled power. Across from him, Zephyrion Vael'Thar, Apostle of Ragnis, glared, flames licking at his palms, temporal energy rippling faintly around him.

No words were exchanged. Both understood the stakes: this was not merely about victory—it was about supremacy, survival, and mastery.

Zephyrion moved first, a blinding flash of temporal speed, closing the distance with his fists aflame. Kairis's eyes narrowed; instinctively, he activated Graviton Edge, bending space subtly to redirect the incoming strike. The impact of fist against warped space sent ripples through the arena floor.

> [System Update: Dark Matter Absorbed: 0.7 units]

[XP Gained: 300]

Kairis countered instantly, twisting the trajectory of a molten shard mid-flight with Gyro-Telekinesis, spinning it like a bullet toward Zephyrion's exposed flank. The fire Apostle shifted with Temporal Shift, narrowly avoiding it.

> "Fast… precise… he's really testing me," Kairis thought, lips curling into a faint smirk.

The battle escalated rapidly:

Zephyrion launched a Flamewave barrage, pillars of molten fire erupting across the arena.

Kairis bent space and gravity, redirecting debris and molten fragments to intercept, absorbing residual energy into his Dark Matter reservoir.

Close-range strikes exchanged concussive force, both Apostles moving at speeds that made the human eye struggle to track them.

> [Dark Matter Absorbed: +1 unit/sec from energy flux]

[XP Gained: 1,000]

The spectators whispered among themselves. Gods monitoring through the system interface tilted their heads, their attention fixed on the fluidity and precision of Kairis's movements.

Kairis remained unnervingly calm, using his personality as both shield and blade. He taunted subtly, letting Zephyrion expend energy on defensive maneuvers:

> "Impressive… but predictable. I've hunted creatures far worse than you."

Zephyrion's golden eyes flared, a mixture of irritation and respect. He countered with Infernal Resonance, amplifying his fire attacks and warping the arena's temperature.

Kairis shifted the gravitational pull beneath him, deflecting several fire strikes, yet feeling a small burn along his arm from residual heat.

> "A little discomfort… nothing more. I'll break his rhythm."

The arena became a chessboard:

Kairis manipulated gravity to subtly alter Zephyrion's footing.

Gyro-Telekinesis spun debris in precise arcs, blocking attacks and creating offensive openings.

Small-scale Black Holes Lv.2 distorted space around key attack vectors, draining Kairis's HP but creating temporary openings.

> [Dark Matter Absorbed: +1.5 units]

[XP Gained: 1,500]

[Ability Upgrade: Gravity Surge Lv.4 Efficiency +10%]

Kairis's violet glow intensified. He was feeding on both ambient energy and opponent's exertion, adapting and calculating with predator-like precision.

Mid-battle, a brief pause occurred—a mutual glance, fleeting but loaded with understanding.

> "He's strong… smarter than I anticipated," Kairis thought.

"I'm pushing him as much as he's pushing me."

Zephyrion smirked faintly, flames dancing in response to his elevated heartbeat.

> "You're more… resourceful than most," Zephyrion admitted, voice low but audible.

Kairis tilted his head, grin faint.

> "And you're predictable… at least when I'm observing carefully."

The acknowledgment of mutual strength changed nothing; it only made both more dangerous.

The Arena as Weapon

Kairis fully utilized the battlefield:

Gravitational wells warped Zephyrion's trajectory mid-attack.

Debris spiraled like deadly rings, forcing Zephyrion to constantly shift with Temporal Shift, gradually wearing him down.

Molten fissures and smoke were manipulated to obscure movement and force mistakes.

> [Dark Matter Absorbed: +2 units from environmental flux]

[Level Progress: 11 / 11 — Level Up Available]

The system silently prepared new interface features, accounting for Kairis's title as Apostle of Void:

> [New Interface Activated: Store, Gacha, Roulette, Quest Log, Ability Catalog]

[Passive Abilities Synced: Gravity Mastery, Gyro-Telekinesis Efficiency, Black Hole Control]

Zephyrion unleashed a combined attack, a whirlwind of temporal displacement and flames designed to overwhelm. Kairis felt the strain—his muscles burned, his HP dipping from sustained Black Hole use.

> "I'm not invincible… but I can adapt."

Kairis spun in mid-air, using Gyro-Telekinesis to redirect molten debris while simultaneously compressing space with Graviton Edge, a blur of motion that collided with Zephyrion's flank. The impact sent the fire Apostle tumbling, flames scattering in controlled arcs.

> [Dark Matter Absorbed: +2.5 units]

[XP Gained: 2,000]

Both combatants panted, sweat and ash streaking their faces.

> "He's not just strong… he's precise… and adaptive," Kairis noted.

"Perfect… the kind of fight I want."

The arena erupted with light and energy, the final strike approaching. Both Apostles were on the edge—exhausted yet unyielding. Kairis flexed his fingers, gravitational distortions forming faintly around him. Zephyrion clenched his fists, fire and temporal energy coiling like a storm.

Time slowed, every spectator frozen in anticipation.

> "This… is it," Kairis thought. "Push him… and show the world why I am the Apostle of Void."

And then, the next move—the apex clash—was about to erupt, gravity versus fire, void versus temporal manipulation, a battle to decide the true victor of the Awakener Gathering.
