Chapter 4 - Right or Wrong

Sun-jun who is now an isolated father, quickly closes his eyes and holds his breath. Full of anger, he crumples the newspaper in his hands.

He had locked his hands together so that he could hide them from Sun-hee behind the newspaper.

But the intensity of the shaking did not even stop his legs from moving.

The upper and lower ends of the newspaper were shaking.

Until a few moments ago, it was a volume of words and complaints.

Now... silence was everywhere.

[what happened?

Scared?

Why?

Does he know anything?]

His heartbeat could easily be heard from a close distance.

The shaking of his body made the old chair shake and its rusted metal legs scratched the wooden parquet floor of the room.

There were dark shadows in his mind. Scary memories of which apparently.

He was only survivor.

Every breath full of trembling and hesitation.

"Control yourself man" He had to repeat this sentence to himself to calm down.

But peace was unattainable and Thousands of miles away from him.

But he repeated the sentence many times in his mind and whispered.

"I can't"

A sense of fear spread throughout the room.

Sun-hee, who saw that the father's condition was very serious, went forward and knelt next to him.

She held his hands tightly with both hands and squeezed.

She just waiting for an answer.

He feels his daughter's hands.

Tears come from the corner of his closed eyes and he takes a deep breath without opening his eyes.

"I can't my daughter... I really can't. I am sorry".

"Dad..."

He opens his eyes and looks into his daughter's eyes for a moment.

Tears flow from his eyes like a bubbling spring.

"Baby, I want you to understand. Please... I can't"

And closes his eyes again.

"Dad, I just want an answer. Why are you taking this from me?"

Sun-jun removes his hands from his daughter's hands and wipes the tears on his face with his shirt sleeve.

"I've talked a lot so far, baby"

He closed the invisible zipper of his mouth with his hand.

It was as if he did not want to continue this conversation.

She, who was still kneeling, takes a deep breath.

"Dad, I know a little bit about Kim's past life. We've known each other for 10 years. We've been together for 10 years. I know him well, and - yeah. I know about his past. And of course, an agreement... never look back. Never."

Sun-jun smirks and shakes his head sadly.

"Kim tell you everything? he told you all about his dark past?... I don't believe it, baby. Absolutely and never"

He throws the crumpled newspaper on the table.

He tries to calm himself down.

He tries to calm himself down. The drops of tears and sweat still run down his forehead and cheeks, dripping from his chin onto his clothes.

And he takes a deep breath again.

Sun-hee stands and takes a step away from him.

"Daddy, do you know the only reason why I'm standing here in this room in front of you?... Kim-Ho. Only Kim-Ho. You know it too."

"Dear, Dear, Dear... why don't you understand?! … why? Sometimes to protect your loved ones, you have to distance yourself from them. You have to leave them. You have to... If - if your Kim-Ho really loves you, with the knowledge he has of himself, He should keep his distance from you, thousands of miles if needed, as long as he has the chance and can. You should - you have to do this. He has to stay away from you so that you are safe."

Sun-hee watches her father cry for the first time.

For her, unanswered questions piled up one by one.

The questions that never had an answer and now disturbed her mind more than ever.

"Why is everyone covering up? Why is no one telling the truth?"

Behind her strong and powerful appearance, a tired and fragile heart was hidden.

A heart that didn't know how long it could continue.

She tried her best to keep the family happy and together, but deep down she was afraid of being alone.

Afraid of darkness.

A fear that was always with her like a shadow and grew stronger every day.

She is staring at her father and thinks to herself.

'Is he really crying?! Why? What does this damn past have?'

Even though she always said: the past is only in the past, this time, different than usual, a strong curiosity had come to her.

'What really happened?'

But indifferent to all these dark thoughts, she had made the final decision and was more determined than ever.

"Dad, this is my final word – we made our decision. I love Kim just the way he is. With all the flaws he might have. Even… I don't care about his dark past. I love his. If you don't agree with our marriage, you have to pretend. For my sake. Because it's going to happen soon. And if you stop us for any reason, we're going to America."

This strange family conversation got tangled and both sides started to be stubborn.

Just a few moments ago, Sun-jun's whole body was shaking with fear.

Now he is staring angrily at Sun-hee.

"From the legacy..."

Sun-hee, who had been waiting for her father to repeat the sentence, finally used a little force.

Her voice turned in a new tone.

For the first time, Anger seeped into Sun-hee.

"Yes. Yes. Yes, I know, father. I know - you have said this thousands of times. I will deprive you of your inheritance. There is no need for you to repeat it so much. And I don't care at all whether I get an inheritance from you or not. How do I know that this inheritance is not a purse?! And if it is, it is better that I be deprived of it. If you don't deprive me, I will deprive myself."

"She's talking angrily." Sun-jun is stunned by his daughter's screaming, and this is what he was saying to himself!

"Dad, did I ask you for money and wealth? As far as I can remember, only you and mom were important to me. But money?... Never. Everything I have, I worked hard for and bought with my own money. I don't want to be you blamed. You also took the trouble to raise me, which of course is the duty of every parent. Anything other than that? I just need the support of my family. A family of which you are the father. Do you think I am exaggerating?" Or should I not have it?

Sun-hee kneels down and begs.

Kyung-Hee, who was sitting on the floor because of sadness, stands up with difficulty and comes to Sun-Hee and hugs her.

She tries to stop her begging.

"Sun-jun. Stop it. Please honey. Please stop it."

Sun-jun frowns heavily as he stares at Kyung-hee. so that his eyebrows completely cover the top of his eyelids.

He wants to show patriarchy.

Little did he know that Kyung-hee was more tired than all these people.

She was the treasure chest of family secrets and this weighed heavily on her.

Every moment ready to explode.

"Honey- these two really love each other. Let them get together. We have to stand by them and support them. If you keep acting like this, I swear I'll divorce you. Divorce!"

Sun-jun's pupils widened.

This time, he was experiencing a new fear and his thoughts were clouded.

'Divorce! What does it mean? Why is everyone attacking me? They think I'm not the same person anymore. No? … Now is not the time for this.'

Sun-jun turns his head with sickly confidence and picks up the crumpled newspaper again, flattens it and holds it in front of him.

"I don't promise, but okay, I'll think about it. Now both of you leave me alone, I want to read my newspaper."

Kyung-hee, as if a thousand-year-old anger was locked inside her, suddenly shouted "stop it" next to Sun-hee's ear.

Sun-hee grabbed her ear and fell to the ground.

Sun-jun got up from the chair and sat down again.

"I was scared, woman. Why are you behaving like this?"

"Woman!!!-Woman!!!-Are you calling me woman now?"

"Oh wow, it's started again. Okay, honey. All right. I'll think about it. Okay? Are you satisfied now? Are you calm now?"

Kyung-hee's anger did not abate. Instead, it increased, and this time she screamed loudly, "Mr. Park!"

Sun-hee is surprised by this behavior of her mother and a smile is heavy on her lips, but she hardly controls herself.

Sun-jun puts his hand over his heart in fear.

"Honey. Why are you screaming like this? Are you trying to give me a heart attack? Where are these voices coming from? Okay. Okay. Okay. I'll talk to Kim next week. Is it okay? Are you satisfied? The proposal has to be official/legal."

Sun-jun looks at his daughter and stares at his wife and holds the newspaper in front of him again.

"Mother and daughter join hands and become a team. A group attacks."

"But dad… Kim proposed 26 times so far"

"So what? Let it be 27 times now. Is there a problem? If he wants you, he will propose to you."

Sun-hee jumps to him (man) and hugs him

Sun-Jun breathes a sigh of relief.

Sun-hee is lost in thought.

'Maybe he just wants to buy time. Maybe he still wants to avoid the proposal day for any reason and excuse! Or… Or create a new barrier between her and Kim!'

"Remember this day. You two are scheming against me — ganging up to pressure me into saying yes. You're attacking me to force an answer. I just hope you don't regret it."

"You should worry about yourself, my dear — worry about the day when you won't be lonely or hungry," Kyung-hee said for the first time.

"Now the ladies will let me read my newspaper" he points to the door of the room with his hand.

"Don't think that just because you want to read your newspaper, we have to wait for you or follow your orders. We have our own work and we're going out. You don't get to decide for us."

Sun-hee and her mom both leave the room.

Sun-jun caught his saliva in his throat and coughed.

He angrily crumples the newspaper and throws it on the floor.

"Damn - damn you Bitch, you evil bitch."

Sun-jun gets up and goes to the desk next to his room.

A large and old desk made of ebony wood.

Although it is more than 30 years old, it has been renovated in a modern style.

He sits on a chair covered with natural leather.

One look at the door of the room and one look under the table.

He hits under the table twice.

A keyboard slowly descends from under the table.

He thinks a little and enters numbers on the keyboard. But nothing happened.

He thinks again. He has not used this table for a long time. Exactly more than 10 years.

Re-enters numbers. This time, an extra part comes out from under the side of the table.

like a hidden box.

He opens the door of the box.

There is a big mobile phone with a big antenna on top.

A satellite phone.

He hesitates and moves away from the box.

Dark thoughts come to him again. Shadows again. His body trembles again. But he is determined.

"I have to do it."
