"This little bottle's official name is an energy-charging soul tool. Both soul masters and soul engineers can use it. A milk bottle can be crafted at any grade, but only a Rank 3 or higher soul engineer can make one with real effect."
"The bottle's function is naturally to replenish soul power. Whatever grade it is determines how much soul power it can restore—equal to a soul master of the same rank. You just need to pre-charge soul power into it beforehand."
"But it has a drawback. When using it, you must stop completely and focus your entire attention on absorbing it. Otherwise, if your mind wanders, you can't guide the incoming soul power properly."
"Alright, I'm sure all honored guests here already understand soul power bottles well, so I won't drag it out. We'll begin the auction now. Starting price: six thousand gold soul coins. Minimum bid increment: one hundred coins."
The moment Qing Ya announced the start, Huo Yuhao placed a bid.
After a heated round of bidding, Huo Yuhao secured the bottle for twenty-five thousand gold soul coins.
For him, this soul tool was absolutely necessary.
With it, he could fire two consecutive Dragon's Wrath attacks!
That boost was nothing short of terrifying.
As the bidding concluded, the final item of the night was finally brought out.
A cart rolled onto stage. Qing Ya stepped to the front, a slight blush coloring her delicate face as she lowered her voice:"Honored guests, our mysterious grand finale is about to appear."
"This last item wasn't originally meant to be shown tonight—but to thank all our long-time supporters, and with approval from our chief auctioneer, we've added this special piece."
"Though its price will be extremely high, anyone who truly understands its value will find it worth every coin. Please welcome our etiquette attendant as she brings this mysterious gift onto the stage."
The cart rolled up from the side, and unlike previous items, this one was larger—covered with a bright crimson cloth.
At Starlight Auction House, everything revolved around color: gold represented supreme prestige, and red came second—sharing its color with the legendary hundred-thousand-year spirit rings.
From that alone, the importance of this item was clear.
Soon, it was placed in the center beside Qing Ya.
Judging from the covered shape, the item wasn't small.
On stage, Qing Ya began unveiling it.
The moment the cloth lifted, all eyes were instantly drawn forward.
What appeared was… the most ordinary thing in the world.
Just as Qing Ya said: something every soul engineer knew and absolutely needed.
A carving knife.
Yes—this was the engraving knife soul engineers used when inscribing core arrays. No soul engineer could function without one. It was a basic necessity for crafting soul tools.
This knife was small—about half a foot long and only as thick as a finger. From bottom to top, it tapered from wide to narrow. The tip was razor-sharp, and the lower half held a blade half an inch wide.
It was dark, simple, ancient; faint patterns seemed carved onto it, giving off an archaic, heavy aura.
Many bidders sighed in disappointment. Clearly, they felt this "mysterious item" was no surprise at all.
Obviously, these were people who didn't understand.
But a handful of others—those who did—had their pupils sharply contract. This item shocked them.
Sure enough, Qing Ya spoke again:
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is not an ordinary engraving knife."
"On the ranking list of engraving knives, it sits at the ninety-ninth position. With its true capability, it shouldn't be that low—top thirty wouldn't be impossible. But the reason it ranks so poorly is simple: this is a cursed knife."
"This is the Soul-Devouring Engraving Knife."
"Soul-Devouring has a history of over three thousand years. It first appeared in the Sun–Moon Empire. Its creator was a soul engineer of overwhelming genius."
"This engineer reportedly reached Rank 9 in the end. Not only was he a soul engineer—he was a soul master as well. A terrifying evil soul master. Three thousand years ago, he brought a storm of blood to the continent."
Qing Ya briefly summarized the origin of the Soul-Devouring Knife.
Upon hearing it, the hall grew tense. Everyone knew the story well.
This cursed blade had had thirty-seven owners.
Every single one of them died miserably.
Among them, nine were eventually corrupted into evil soul masters.
According to legend, a fragment of that ancient prodigy's soul remains sealed within the knife—whispering, corrupting, pushing its owner toward madness and evil.
Only those with extraordinary mental resolve can touch it. Hence its ranking continually plummeted until it could fall no further without being removed entirely.
Only its legendary past allowed it to remain on the list at all.
Yet no matter how valuable a ranked knife was… nothing outweighed life.
Who would pay a high price for something they couldn't even safely use?
Most thought this was pointless.
And then, the price appeared:
"Soul-Devouring Engraving Knife—starting price, one hundred thousand gold soul coins. Minimum bid increment: five thousand." Qing Ya smiled faintly as she announced it.
But inwardly, she wasn't excited at all. With nearly ten years of experience, she could see the reaction clearly: this cursed thing would almost certainly fail to sell again.
After all, who would buy a knife that kills its owners?
As expected, silence swept the hall after her announcement.
"Well… let it fail, then."
As time passed, Qing Ya sighed helplessly and prepared to close the auction.
But just then, Huo Yuhao's voice rang out.
Just like in the original story, he bid one hundred thousand—buying the knife amidst the stunned silence of the entire hall.
Shrek Academy's students were shocked too. Even those unfamiliar with soul tools could sense from Qing Ya's explanation—and from the hall's frozen reaction—that this knife had problems.
Worry filled their faces.
"Yuhao, what are you buying that thing for?"
"Yeah, you're not even a soul engineer. You won't be able to use it at all!"
"Hurry and return it, Yuhao. That knife is seriously dangerous…"
