That was not a request. It was a statement, delivered with the casual authority of someone who had never been disobeyed.
Reinhard looked from the girl to the hornless, broken demon still dangling from his hand, its life slowly and painfully choking out.
He let out a long, quiet sigh. "So, as in a subordinate… you're his master," he stated, his voice flat.
The girl's cold, amused smile didn't waver. "Huh? Wasn't that obvious?"
"Then as its master… you are also a demon," Reinhard continued.
She didn't reply, her red eyes simply looking at him as if the answer was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Then that won't be possible," Reinhard said. "To let you take him."
"I apologize," the girl said, her tone still light. "It seems I didn't clarify my intent. That wasn't a request."
Reinhard didn't listen. In a movement so fast it was a blur, he dropped the Archdemon and, as it fell, his hands flashed out, severing its arms and legs mid-air. The dismembered creature crashed to the ground in a heap.
He turned his full attention to the white-haired girl. "And it seems my words didn't clarified it. So, I will say this again," he repeated, his voice dangerously low. "It won't be possible. To take him."
For the first time, the girl let out a genuine laugh. "You are certainly an interesting human. To not only overcome your fear of me but to talk back to me. For just that, I praise you. But isnt it a saying… humans always die because of their ignorance."
She saw him shift his stance as he then stared at her, his intent as clear as it can be. "Hahaha! How impressive," she said, her voice dripping with condescending amusement. "Thinking of fighting me."
"He will die here," Reinhard said, his eyes locked on her. "He will not reincarnate, not in the underworld, not anywhere. He will return to nothing. But before that, he will experience the pain he caused the innocents he killed so coldly. And seeing as you have no intention of backing down, there is only one option left. One of us has to go."
"You are correct," the girl agreed. "It seems you have to go. But before you fall… even though the result would be the same… but alas, I will grant you the honor of the first strike. Don't hold back. Come at me with everything you have. And if you manage to entertain me, even just a little, I just might spare you."
The moment the words left her lips, he was gone.
He didn't appear behind her. He appeared directly at her side, his fist already connecting with her face. The sound was like a thunderclap. The sheer force of the punch sent her flying like a white cannonball, crashing through the forest for kilometers before she finally slammed into the earth.
Reinhard glanced back at the writhing, limbless demon on the ground. "We will continue after I deal with your this master. Don't even think about running. You can't." And with a whisper of displaced air, he vanished.
…
The girl pulled herself from a crater deep in the forest, her mind reeling. She couldn't believe what had just happened. She had been completely outclassed in speed and strength. The human had bypassed all of her defenses and hit her so hard she'd been blasted across the landscape in an instant.
Yes, this physical body was just a temporary construct of magicules, far weaker than her true self, but for a mere human to do this was impossible… unless…
A single thought, cold and shocking, cut through her surprise.
'A True Hero!'
A calm voice spoke from the edge of the crater. "I hope I wasn't a disappointment."
She looked up at Reinhard and a slow, genuine smile spread across her face. "How rare. Who would have thought I would get to meet a legendary True Hero in the flesh? Who can scar on my dignity if not on the flesh. I hope you didn't think that was all this is to it… you have only earned the honor of my full attention.."
She levitated out of the crater, and in an instant, her body blurred. Her hand shot out, aimed at Reinhard's face. He caught her wrist, used her momentum to spin her around, and threw her high into the sky. He immediately jumped after her. It all happened in less than a fraction of a second.
"Same here!"
…
Back at the town hall, the trio had found a hidden cellar. A dozen terrified survivors, mostly women and children, were huddled inside. While Reinhard was fighting, they had managed to get all of them out of the building and into the relative safety of the open square.
They didn't even have a moment to rest before the sky itself seemed to explode with light. They looked up to see impossible streaks of white and red light clashing high above them.
The figures moved so fast their eyes couldn't follow them at all. All they could see were the flashes, a line of light appearing on the right side of the sky, then instantly reappearing on the left, a silent, deadly dance.
"Just who is he?" Kaval breathed. "Like, literally… who?"
"As I said before…" Gido gasped. "Maybe a Summoned Hero from another kingdom?"
"Then what is he doing in Blumund, taking D-rank quests with us?" Ellen asked, her voice filled with awe and terror.
"Like hell if I know!" Kaval shot back. "Didn't he say he'd explain when this is over? Let's see if there's anyone else we missed. Not like anything else we can do here."
…
High in the sky, after a few more seconds of clashing, the girl pulled back. She levitated there as hundreds of magic circles, glowing with immense power, materialized behind her.
With a wave of her hand, they unleashed a storm of magical attacks, lances of light, bolts of darkness, and blasts of pure energy, all hurtling toward Reinhard.
On the ground below, Reinhard simply stood still. He didn't flinch. He didn't move. He took all of the magical attacks head-on.
Or rather, he would have, if they had ever reached him. Each and every spell, no matter how powerful, simply… vanished into nothingness a few feet before it could touch him.
The white-haired demoness gasped, feeling her magicule body start to weaken. She had used too much power. She stared at the man on the ground, who was completely unharmed. What?! was the only thought in her mind.
Reinhard looked up at her, guessing her confusion. "Magical attacks don't work on me," he stated simply. "And it seems this has gone on long enough."
He placed his hand on the hilt of the Dragon Sword Reid. He felt a familiar thrum of acknowledgment from the blade.
The Dragon Sword Reid deems "the White Primordial, Blanc," a worthy opponent.
Slowly, he began to pull the sword from its scabbard. The air around them grew heavy, thick with an invisible pressure. When the blade was finally free from its scabbard, it seemed to vanish, as if it were too bright for the world to perceive.
In the next instant, Reinhard was beside the demoness in the sky. Her red eyes widened, she had seen him move this time, but it was too late. The Dragon Sword Reid cut through her.
Her last thought, before her physical form dissolved and she was violently banished from the mortal world, was the same one she'd had before.
'What?!'
