"Go!"
"I.. I don't want to...!"
"Go back to your wife!"
"No!"
He screamed with a determination that wasn't there before, tears threatening to fall from his puffy eyes.
"She's not you..." He said a little more slowly and quietly.
"She's too kind to me... She never gets angry at me.. never shout at me... She's not you..."
"Alan..."
"You're my wife! Not her! And you know it too..."
He stood there before her, under the snowy night, exhausted, with red puffy cheeks now wet with tears, sad but determined eyes.
He looked like a child trying to prove himself and it was really getting to her, especially as he tries to wipe the tears off and stop himself from sneezing so much.
"God! You will be the death of me!"
She marched down to him in long wide strides.
Few minutes later Amelia stood over him with a towel drying his hair after having him wrapped up and holding a glass of hot tea. Alan kept peeking at her as she dried his hair. It was snowing outside but he had drove here. His car broke down halfway to her house which wasn't very easy to find but he pulled through cause he needed to see her else he'd loose his damn mind. And that he did as he watched her take care of him, something she did so naturally. He was cold but just watching her warmed his heart and so he kept staring. Even though she was in front of him, he still missed her and it hurt... It hurt so much...
"Stop staring"
But he didn't even blink.
"Seriously stop it, you've seen for years".
"I haven't seen you in weeks... And I really can't stop staring at you, physically at least..". Amelia sighed and continued what she was doing, almost getting done when she felt his head on her tummy. Looking down she noticed he had dropped the cup of tea and his hands were wrapped around her waist.
"What are you doing?"
"God! I've missed you..." He said with every buried emotion in his soul making him to exhale hagged breath with a broken voice that was almost a whisper but she heard it and felt it too. The truth was, she missed him ... Terribly... and thinking about him non stop, he literally occupies her mind, and when she saw him out in the snow in front of her door, she nearly jumped on him... Nearly ran to hug him and never let him go, but reasoning won. If he got sick in her house she wouldn't be very happy about it.
But now all she wanted to do was hold him back but she had to be sure of something.
"Don't you need to be home with your wife?"
"Am HOME with MY WIFE!"
"Alan..."
"Am not going anywhere!"
"Seriously? What of your mom?" He raised his head to look up at her.
"I love her but am not married to her, you come first".
"Alan you have a new wife now... Am your ex..."
"Don't... Don't finish that sentence... You're not my ex... Did you see me get married again? Did you hear me say I do to her? I only said that to you. My mom can marry her for all I care". He looked her in the eye, the hurt and sadness was written in every feature of his face but his eyes were the most hunting.
"You left just like that... I wasn't even around. I came back from a business trip of 2 months, didn't hear from you for a month after your on word reply whenever I send you a message. You stopped picking my calls won't return them, didn't even tell me what was going on. I came back to mom, a face that was not yours and an empty house... I was told you left but I knew it wasn't possible. Mom said you threw hands and was quiet violent and I know you only throw hands when someone tries it first and you're only violent to me.... In the bedroom... But..". A giggle escaped Amelia's lips when she heard that and a smirk played on her lips as she listened. Alan cleared his throat obviously shy and red like a tomato but he forced himself to continue because he needed to make things clear.
"It slipped out... It wasn't intentional..."
"Hmmm"
"And that was why mom insisted I marry the girl cos she's gentle and fragile and will take care of me and eventually give me... Nevermind... "
"A child..." She cut him off
"Baby you know I don't mind, it's been only three years, I really don't mind that now and obviously it's your body so I'll wait till you're ready and you're prettier than her.."
"Really?"
"Yes. I don't want her, I want you and you know am not into nice girls. I searched everywhere for you ,I haven't even been back to the house since I came back and didn't see you there".
"Where have you been staying?"
"In a hotel "
"With who?"
"Your pictures..."
A smile unintentionally crept up her face and it warmed her heart and just like that, she returned the hug and finally her heart was at peace. The couple held each other and dwelt in the warmth of each other.
Few hours later
Alan was eating a fruit. He had always been a light eater and when Amelia offered to prepare something for him kindly requested for any fruit and it so happened to be a water melon. Alan ate like a hungry puppy and when his spoon failed him he went the cave man way with his face in and his mouth doing the job.
