Chapter 20 - Support

"Who says an attack-system can't have support skills?"

"...But that amplification you just used was insane. Hey, why don't you need to summon your martial spirit when releasing spirit skills?"

Dong Qianqiu returned to Gu Xun's side and began asking questions, while Gu Xun chose to sit on a large boulder.

"Ice-elemental specialized support skills—of course they're powerful. As for the other one? That's elemental mastery. I crafted that skill myself, so naturally it doesn't require activating a spirit ring technique."

"A self-created spirit skill?! You've already started developing your own techniques?"

Dong Qianqiu gasped in surprise, utterly stunned that Gu Xun had created his own spirit skill. Gu Xun simply nodded.

"Pretty much."

Dong Qianqiu recalled Gu Xun's support abilities and felt utterly exhilarated. Her ice element attacks had tripled in power—it was simply outrageous.

"Hey, Gu Xun, let's discuss something."

Dong Qianqiu realized that with Gu Xun as her support, wouldn't she become invincible?

"What is it? What's with that look?"

Gu Xun turned to Dong Qianqiu, only to meet eyes that gazed at him like he was a prized possession. He instinctively shifted back a step.

Noticing the distance, Dong Qianqiu sat down beside Gu Xun and said.

"Look, you can support ice-element soul masters. And I happen to be ice-element. Don't you think we'd be a perfect match?"

Dong Qianqiu gazed at Gu Xun hopefully. His brows furrowed at the suggestion, instantly grasping her intent.

"Who said I can only support ice-type? I can assist any elemental type."

"What?!"

Dong Qianqiu gasped in surprise. She hadn't expected Gu Xun to be such a versatile support. Now she couldn't let him go.

"Gu Xun, our bond over these past six months can't just end like this. You wouldn't use your support skills to help others beat me, would you?"

Dong Qianqiu gazed at Gu Xun with pitiful eyes, looking utterly helpless.

There was no way around it. After experiencing Gu Xun's support firsthand, Dong Qianqiu had instantly become obsessed with this overwhelming power.

After all, the thrill of landing critical hits with every strike was utterly exhilarating. The thought of Gu Xun supporting someone else in the future.

Someone wielding that god-tier damage boost to defeat her—sent a chill down Dong Qianqiu's spine. Triple ice element damage, no less.

Dong Qianqiu was genuinely trembling. That's why she was determined to lure Gu Xun into being her personal support.

"Not necessarily. We might part ways someday,"

Gu Xun shrugged. Dong Qianqiu fell silent upon hearing this—it was true. Gu Xun might not stay by her side forever.

Unless they became something akin to spouses. The thought made Dong Qianqiu's cheeks flush crimson.

Dong Qianqiu stole a glance at Gu Xun. His looks and bearing were both top-tier, and his family background was extraordinary too. It seemed...

The thought made Dong Qianqiu shake her head quickly. What was she thinking? She was still so young—how could she entertain such ideas?

Just as Dong Qianqiu was lost in her thoughts, Gu Xun patted her shoulder.

"What's wrong?"

Dong Qianqiu felt the tap on her shoulder and snapped back to attention, looking at Gu Xun.

"A three-hundred-year-old black bear. Go for it."

Gu Xun pointed at the black bear charging toward them. Dong Qianqiu nodded in response.

Dong Qianqiu then channeled her martial spirit. A yellow spirit ring appeared, and an ice spear materialized in her hand as she prepared for battle.

"Decree!"

Gu Xun flicked a blue-and-white talisman. Instantly, terrifying cold surged from Dong Qianqiu's body, filling her entire being with a crushing chill.

Dong Qianqiu felt she could take on ten opponents! She raised her spear, fixing her gaze on the massive black bear charging toward her.

"Go!"

Dong Qianqiu's small hand flickered, sending several ice spikes flying. They struck the black bear's body with pinpoint accuracy.

With several sharp pops, the bear's hide was pierced by multiple bloody holes. It immediately let out a pained, furious roar.

Logically, Dong Qianqiu's ice spikes should have only left minor marks on this three-hundred-year-old black bear.

After all, bear-type spirit beasts were renowned for their strength and defense. Yet Dong Qianqiu's ice spikes had carved several deep, bone-exposing wounds into the black bear.

Watching the bear's agonized howls, Dong Qianqiu's eyes narrowed sharply. She swept her spear forward, leaving a massive gash across the bear's body.

Dong Qianqiu's ice spear sliced through the bear's fur and flesh as easily as cutting tofu. The smooth, effortless cut brought him a sense of satisfaction.

The bear, however, felt nothing of the sort. Blood gushed forth like a fountain, and the creature soon collapsed from excessive blood loss.

Dong Qianqiu watched her easy defeat of the beast and realized the terrifying potential of Gu Xun's support abilities.

"With your assistance, I feel confident we could even take on a thousand-year spirit beast."

Dong Qianqiu spoke with lingering satisfaction as he felt the power within her being reabsorbed.

"A thousand-year soul beast? Close enough. Once you've recovered your spirit power, let's move locations. The smell of blood from the corpse will attract stronger spirit beasts."

Gu Xun signaled to Dong Qianqiu that they'd relocate shortly, and Dong Qianqiu nodded in response.

"Alright."
