Chapter 6 - Ch.6 A Job

As they ate breakfast together, Debbie suddenly brought up a topic that made Bradley interested.

"Oh yeah, sweetie, that reminds me. I spoke with my friend Diane, and she mentioned she could use some help with her garden," Debbie said, remembering that Bradley didn't have much money. "And she asked if you'd be willing to help."

'Hmm, Diane.' Even though he had only met her a few times, he remembered that she was almost as beautiful as Debbie. This tempted him to accept the offer.

"But I don't know anything about gardening, Debbie," Bradley said with a wince. Even though the offer sounded great—free money and time with Diane—he didn't have any experience with gardening.

"Oh, don't worry about it; it's easy. And Diane will teach you if you encounter any problems, not to mention the good pay," she said with a smile, tempting him with the good pay offer since she knew how much teens these days needed money. "And not to mention, you might need extra money for college and your girlfriend," she said with a teasing smirk.

"Well, I might swing by her place then." With no downsides, Bradley decided he might as well visit her, as free money was always welcome. 'And not to mention she's single, too.' From his memory, he knew Diane was divorced, so it was a perfect opportunity to get together with her and maybe even have a threesome with her and Debbie.

Suddenly, he heard a 'ding' sound with a blue screen in the corner of his eyes, and he didn't even need to check to know what it was about.

And there wasn't just one quest but two. Looking at the second one, he tried his hardest to control his laughter.

Ignoring the interesting quests he got, he quickly finished his breakfast while talking with Debbie about various things. Just as he finished eating, he got a text on his phone. It was from Erik.

[Erik - Come quick, otherwise we are going to be late.

Bradley - Coming, coming.]

"Oh, is it Erik?" Debbie asked with a curious face as she saw him texting on his phone and came to the most likely conclusion.

"Yeah, he's asking me to come quickly, otherwise we're going to be late," he said, picking up the utensils to put them in the kitchen, but Debbie stopped him.

"Don't worry about it; you need to hurry, or you'll be late," Debbie said with a smile, taking the plates from him. While he wanted to help her, he decided not to so he wouldn't be late for school.

"Then I should be going." But just as he tried to leave, Debbie stopped him and hugged him gently.

"I know these weeks have been hard, but I'm glad you're carrying on just like your father wanted. Don't worry, you'll get through this, and I'm always here for you," she said, gently patting his head and hugging him to give him reassurance.

"Thanks, Debbie." Hearing her words, he couldn't help but smile, realizing how sweet she was. "I should be going then. I'll text you once I'm at school."

"See ya, sweetie!" she said, lightly waving as he left the kitchen. When she was alone, she started reading the newspaper.

'Ugh! Now the suffering begins.' After the sweet moment with Debbie, he realized he had to go to school again, which he absolutely detested.

"I already graduated from school in my last life. Why again, man?" While complaining loudly, he exited the house and started jogging toward the house next door: Erik's house.

"Sup, Erik!" He lightly raised his hand to greet Erik, who was standing outside looking tired.

"Hey, Bradley…" With no energy in his voice, Erik replied as they started walking toward the school.

"Did something happen? You look really tired." He asked curiously, as Erik looked like he would fall down on the road at any moment.

"You know about that new game I was talking about? I was playing that all night, and before I knew it, it was already daytime," he said, rubbing his eyes under his glasses. "And not to mention, I hate school."

"Man, why do we even have to go to school? Can't we just stay home all the time?" Hearing Erik's complaint, Bradley couldn't help but agree with him inwardly, as even he wanted to do the same.

"Yeah, I hear you, but we'll get through it quickly." But he decided not to agree with him, so as not to encourage that behavior, especially when school was important for kids his age.

"Also, sorry to hear about your dad, by the way. How are you holding up?" Moving past his complaints, he decided to empathize with Bradley after what had happened to him in the past month.

"I'll be all right, man, but thanks for asking," he replied with a smile, lightly patting Erik's shoulder. Inwardly, he wasn't really affected by Frank's death.

"Anyway, let's run, otherwise we'll be late," Erik suddenly mentioned when he noticed the time on his phone.

"Ah, fuck." Looking at the time too, Bradley realized there were only a few minutes left, so they quickly started running together.
