Chapter 7 - The Sword That Chose Me

One on my left walking on the building, one on my right also above the buildings, and the last… behind me! Alright, I think these are all the wardens following me. Now I will keep walking through the city; I can't leave yet.I kept walking normally...

As I walked through Arden, I saw more and more of how beautiful this city is. I have never seen something like this. The buildings and houses are constructed with incredible attention to detail, and even the trees along the streets are beautifully decorated and shaped.

The wardens can't see the system, which means I can look at my stats. Some time had passed since the last time I checked them—after I killed those two golems. I wonder how much I leveled up…

"Screen," I quietly whispered.

The golden Screen appeared right in front of me.

Violet Eye

What's that… a new skill?.. how did I get that?.. I thought, and another screen appeared.

You got the skill "Violet Eye" thanks to your way of killing the golems. Your abilities will all enhance once you use this skill.

This is actually a good skill. Do my eyes turn violet if I use it?.. because that would be cool.

After walking for a while I stopped. Oh great, where am I even… this city is unbelievably big…And they are still following me…

Okay, fine! If that's what they want… I turned around and headed back to the city gate to leave the city.

While walking back I noticed the wardens getting taken down one by one…Hmm… weird… did someone just take care of these wardens for me?

"Screen." The screen disappeared.

I then turned to my right and went into the alley. It was full of garbage and it stank SO BAD…What a city… beautiful from the outside, but if you look closely you will notice how fake it is.

"There he is!" I looked up, seeing the man who was taking down the wardens. Wait… I have seen him before—

He jumped down from above the building directly into the alley I was in."No need to thank me," he said with a very deep voice, then jumped back up and left.

It was the same ninja guy I met on my first day… or, well, the so-called Silencers, I suppose. Why would he take care of them for me?.. I literally told the wardens all I knew about him… shouldn't this make him upset or something like that?.. Doesn't matter. But why does his voice seem so familiar to me?.. And it was different than the first time I met him—it's like he's trying to fake his voice by making it deeper.

I lifted my hand and pinched my nose, closing it. Anyway, this alley stinks LIKE SHI—

Well, now that no one is watching me I guess I can take a better look around the city. I have killed so many goblins; therefore I have a lot of money, so I will go buy a new sword—better than the one I have at least, because last time I used it, it was kinda going to break.

With that, I left the stinky alley and headed directly into the first weapon store I saw.

As I entered, I noticed an old man sitting on a chair behind a desk in the store… must be the store owner. The old man looked directly into my eyes for a second.

"How can I help you, kid?" the old man said with a very gentle smile.

I looked around, seeing how many weapons there were—axes, daggers, swords, and even hammers. Also many kinds of shields. Looking from the outside at this store, I did not think it would have so many great weapons.

Well, as they say… DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.

"Hello, ehm… I am just searching for a sword… the one I had is almost gonna break."

"Which type do you like?"

HUH? Type?.. Oh, he means sword type, hah my mind went somewhere for a second…

"I prefer a thin sword… also, like, not heavy if possible."

"Thin and not heavy? Yeah, I got something like this in the backstore. Just wait a minute here, kid," he said as he turned around, opened a door to a room behind him, then went in and closed it.

After a while he came out holding a black-red sword.

He got closer to me and took the sword out of its sheath… a thin, long sword whose blade was fully covered in black with red lines on it.

"Here, kid—take it."

I took the sword and its sheath from his hand. Whoa… this sword is actually so light… like it's made out of feather… this must be very expensive.

I like this sword, very much actually. "How much do you want for it?" I asked as I put the sword back into the sheath.

The old man turned around and went back to his desk. After a while he spoke, "It's for free, kid."

"…Free? Why?"

"Don't ask too many questions, kid… it's for free because this sword has chosen you."

Chosen me?.. I don't get at all what this man is saying, but fine I guess. As long as it's free—better for me, I thought.

Time to buy some food, because I might die of hunger.

I went back into the alley— as I entered, the smell hit my nose. Argh, this smell again… I won't get used to it.

"Inventory."Alright, let's put this new amazing masterpiece in here."Inventory."

Now… food time.
