Chapter 7 - A Needed Hug

It took him a few minutes to bring his emotions under full control. If he had the choice, he would have left the room as soon as he pushed Becky away but as someone with a lot of experience in a dog eat dog corporate world, he knew that staying until Mike came back, was safer.

'Luckily, we've been in the same team for almost a year… probably more.' he thought as he smiled slightly, 'It's a pity that I'll be going solo from now but… I guess this is better. I'll miss that guy tho.'

With a lit cigarette in his hand, he walked out of the common bathroom to see two familiar faces in the room that they commonly referred to as 'Classroom'. This was the room where the so-called professor taught the group about monsters.

Opposite to the common bathroom door, was a single door which opened to a corridor that had two rooms on each side. To the right was the black board that still had some diagrams and words on it. Right beside the black board, was a thick metal door that led outside.

"We're coming with you." Mike said matter-of-factly as he turned to look at Amon before frowning, "Since when did you start smoking?"

'Right… Amon didn't smoke before the transmigration event. To think that I gave in to my addiction so quickly. Fuck.' he berated himself inwardly as began to walk to his room, "I'll… get my stuff. We can leave once it's day time."

He didn't argue with him since having a team was always better than going solo. As for his previous thoughts, he was merely trying to convince himself.

Nyx raised her eyebrow at Mike and smirked, "Since when did you start worrying so much about him?"

"A lot of people say that cigarettes are harmful… like poison. I don't want him to die."

"That's before the apocalypse happened." Amon said as he took a puff out of habit, "Regular humans still have a chance cancer if they smoke a lot but it surely will affect their health in the long run. As for Awakened like us, our bodies will expel minor inconveniences automatically. I'll still get the hit from the nicotine while not having to worry about the smoke."

Both Nyx and Mike stared at him in silence. Seeing such an outcome, he smiled awkwardly, "It calms me down and helps me think better."

"What's a cancer? And what's Nicotine?" Mike asked while Nyx chuckled, "Probably some nerdy thing that only someone like him would know. Even if he explained, we wouldn't understand."

Saying that, she looked at Amon, "In short, it's not harmful to awakened?"

"Yes." Amon said as he took another long puff and pinched the ember at the end, putting it off.

"Also, aren't you going to tell Oleg about this?"

Nyx shrugged, "I'm sure he wouldn't care. He'll get the same money whether we stay or not. He can always replace us. It's us who needed him until now. Two illiterates and an unawakened who can't get a license."

"Hmm… now that I think about it, when did you awaken? Based on your performance today, it's most probably after we killed the steel spider. Which means you made this decision in the past few hours." she said, frowning as she glanced at the two of them.

"Amon."

That word coming out of her mouth triggered certain memories inside him. Nyx was a woman who wouldn't stop until she got her answers.

With a sigh, he looked at the only other person who knew the story. Mike understood what Amon wanted with just an eye contact and immediately explained everything.

"Well, knowing her… she wouldn't have done that if you hadn't awakened. She's a crafty little one." she said and sighed as she walked over to Amon and pulled him into a hug.

At first, he instinctively wanted to push her away like he did with Becky but surprisingly, he relaxed in her embrace. Once his instincts took a back seat, he looped his arms around her waist and hugged her back.

She was a tall girl, just two inches shorter than him as she stood at 178cm or 5'10.

Amon could feel her soft mounds squish against his chest and he happily enjoyed the feeling. He had a strong urge to grab her behind, but he controlled himself.

After all, she wasn't his girl. At the bare minimum, they were colleagues that knew each other for almost 18 months and based on his memories, she had never expressed any sort of interest in physical intimacy.

Neither with him, nor with other guys in their group.

After almost an entire minute, Amon took a step back, "Thank you… looks like I needed that."

"I know. Anyways… now that you've awakened, which class did you pick?"

Mike's attention had gone up to a 100 when he heard this question. He was way too shocked to ask anything back then.

Amon stood silently for a few seconds before sighing, "Keep this a secret. Mutation."

"Y- you… what? How?" she asked. Her face showed shock, fear, and absolute confusion.

Mike glanced at ears on top of her head that were covered in black fur before he sighed inwardly. Half humans had no rights in this world and they weren't accepted by any side. Humans called them monsters while the monsters treat them as food, similar to humans.

They were the same as humans. They had feelings, complex thoughts and emotions. The only difference was that their appearances were slightly different and they had certain problems. It was different for each individual.

And at the end, most would either end up becoming slaves, food for monster pets or they could pick Nyx's path and survive in a yellow zone where human laws had no value.

Amon had already thought of an answer a few moments ago so he confidently answered.

"When I woke up, it wasn't in my pocket. Wait, I didn't even have a pocket since my clothes were torn to nothingness. Anyways, it was in my pocket and it vanished by the time I woke up."
