Mockery of death?

Evangeline lifted her gaze to Aestus's face. The red haired fae looked visibly annoyed, as though repeating himself was a risk in itself, his voice lowered not from fatigue but from fear. fear that Hades might somehow hear him from the floor below. That hesitation did not escape her notice.

"Are you speaking badly of His Lordship?" she asked, her tone calm but unmistakably direct.

The question seemed to startle Aestus. He had likely expected meek confusion, perhaps a soft "why," followed by quiet acceptance. Instead, he frowned at her, clearly taken aback.

"Is it truly speaking badly of someone if it's the truth?" he shot back, prompting her to tilt her head slightly.

"To say that someone's existence is a mockery of death," she replied evenly, "is not a kind thing to say." At that, he let out a short chuckle.
