"Try to keep you in? Did they succeed?" she asked, her frown deepening with concern.

Power like his felt ancient, older than crowns, older than kingdoms. It was no wonder the royal family would want it contained, controlled and claimed. If possible, they would want to have that power on their hands or at least a way to also procure the same power. 

Even if they did not fully understand what he was, or the truth that there had only ever been one Hades Valentine, they would have desired that power in their own hands.

Hades's lips curled slowly before a quiet laugh slipped from him. He tilted his chin and smoothed his hair back with idle elegance. "What do you think?"

"But you never left Salestas," she pressed gently. "Isn't that because you have a reason to stay?"

"Well," Hades hummed, almost lazily, "I am simply lazy."

"Lazy," she repeated, clearly unconvinced.
