Chapter 138 - Blood doesn’t make family, Loyalty does

A few hours later, I felt better than before. The doctor had given me some medication to ease the pain, and I was moved to a different room where visitors were finally allowed to see me.

By visitors, I meant Mr. Brown, Clara, and William. Oh—and Mila, too. She was currently perched on the bed beside me, her small head resting on my shoulder.

I was so relieved she was okay. Especially after how forcefully I'd shoved her out of the way. That memory still made my chest tighten.

"Can we give the ladies some time to themselves?" William suddenly suggested, placing a hand on Dominic's arm.

Dominic looked reluctant to leave. He opened his mouth, clearly about to protest, but William had already tugged him toward the door, flashing me a quick wave over his shoulder.

I chuckled softly as Dominic tried to shrug him off but failed miserably. William wasn't having it.

When the door finally closed behind them, I turned to Clara, smirking.
