Chapter 147 - Why do you hate my father?

It felt like we all held our breath the moment we stepped into the doctor's office.

None of us spoke. We just sat there quietly, staring at the doctor as he took his time settling into his seat.

"Harper."

I turned at the sound of my name. Elizabeth had spoken, her hand reaching out to clutch mine. She gave a gentle squeeze. I allowed it, but I didn't squeeze back.

Instead, I offered a weak smile and looked away. My gaze wandered around the room—the sterile white walls. The calendar pinned beside the door. The ticking wall clock. Even the X-ray machine was standing idly in the corner. Eventually, my eyes landed on the doctor's desk.

It was a mess. Pens scattered across the surface, files stacked unevenly and barely closed. A pack of sugar-free gum sat awkwardly among the clutter.
