Chapter 162 - Don’t look for your mother

My mother's face betrayed no emotion as she stared at me for a long moment. Silence stretched between us, heavy and suffocating. I could no longer hear anyone else in the lobby.

I glanced around briefly, wondering if anyone was listening to our conversation, but everyone had gone back to whatever they were doing before we arrived.

"So, you already knew," my mother finally said, her voice cutting through my thoughts.

"So I already knew?" I stared at her in disbelief, shaking my head. "What were you thinking?"

No.

"How could you?" I asked, my voice steady even though I was on the verge of breaking. I could see the truth clearly in her eyes now. "Why did you do it? How much did you hate me that you discarded me into that house, watched me suffer, and made me pay for a sin I never committed?"
