Chapter 7 - Hope

Bruce's pov

Before I could think, my body moved on its own, stopping the guard from landing another hit on the child.

"What the–"

Before he could complete his statement, I reached for his head and brought it down to my knee. Blood gushed out from his nose, he for sure wasn't expecting that.

"Aarrgghh!!" He groaned as he stumbled back.

I didn't wait to provide him an opportunity to attack. I rushed forward and swung my fist in a right hook straight for his jaw. The blow knocked him out immediately.

The child who was a victim of the harsh treatment hurriedly crawled back to the other children. He was terrified.

I slowly walked towards the children. My steps were calculated so as not to scare them even more.

"Ssh. It's alright. I'm not one of them," I spoke in the softest tone I could muster. "I promise to get you out of here. All of you."

After hearing those words, I could see the faint beacon of hope lighting up in their once dull eyes. My heart tightened with pity.

What have they been through?

I heard heavy footsteps approaching quickly. The other guards must be here. I mentally prepared myself for a battle.

"Where the hell is Fred? He went in minutes ago. Shouldn't he be done by now?" I heard a voice and another followed in a low laugh.

"Haha. You know how much he likes young boys. Wanna bet if his pick survives?"

"What's the point of loosing money over an obvious matter? That guy's a maniac," the man replied and they laughed.

My eyes widened in shock. What the hell did I just hear? Did they molest these children too?I couldn't bear to imagine the cruelty that would have happened if I had not stepped in to help that child.

As their steps grew louder, I searched for a weapon. Anything that can take them out. I spotted a metal pipe by a corner. I rushed to take it and hid behind the door.

"Let's see if he's done. We can't let him delay much longer."

Shadows poured in through the door and as soon as one of them stepped in, I wiped the back of his head with the metal pipe.

He fell to the ground with a loud thud.

"Shit!" I heard the other guards exclaim in shock. He rushed in. "Who did this?"

"Right here."

At the sound of my voice, the man turned in my direction with a gun pointing at me.

My body moved with speed. I used the pipe to smack the gun out of his hand before he shot at me. It missed by a quick second. I swung the pipe again and landed a hit to his knee. He lost his balance and fell.

I whacked him in the back of his head to seal the deal. Three men down. More to go.

I guess the gunshot caught the attention of other guards cause the next thing I heard was someone raising an alarm.

"There's an intruder! We're being attacked!"

Before I could rush out of the container, about ten men surrounded me.

'Damnit. There are too many,' I thought to myself. 'There's no way I can handle them all by myself.'

And to make things worse they were all armed with weapons ranging from knives to guns and even baseball bats.

The first guard came, throwing his knife around with skill and precision. He tried stabbing but I stepped to the side, grabbed his arm, twisted and threw him over my shoulder.

Four.

The others rushed towards me. The first blow came from the right. I redirected the flow of his hand and in exchange gave him two light jabs knocking his head back.

He lost his balance and fell back, the other guy had a baseball bat, he flung it straight for my face, I bent docked and punched his gut.

I was getting used to this body fighting style. These were moves I could only dream of using in my previous body.

The fight continued for what felt like hours. My adrenaline was pumping. Even if I received a few hits here and there, I took them down one by one.

Before I knew it, there were twelve guys lying on the floor, some unconscious, some mid conscious but couldn't move.

I looked back to check if the children were still there and okay. Luckily, they were. I sighed in relief.

I walked towards them with the intention of trying to get some information. That was my sole purpose of coming to the port.

I knelt before them, looking around as I asked, "Where are you from?"

I was met with silence. My brows furrowed but I relaxed my expression quickly.

"How long have you been kept here? Do you know where they'll take you?"

Another silence. Why weren't they talking? Did they threaten to do anything to them if they talked?

As I pondered I didn't notice someone coming behind me. All I felt was a sharp pain in the back of my head and the sound of wood breaking.

Dang it. I let my guard down. I turn to see who it was.

It was the first guard who hit that child earlier. I thought he was unconscious. He smiled with his bloodied mouth.

"Heh! You thought you had me, didn't you?" He mocked me. "Unfortunately for you, I don't go down so easily."

I didn't have time to gather myself before he kicked my stomach. Once. Twice. Three times.

'It hurts.'

My body felt heavy. My nerves screamed in pain. It felt like I was being pricked by thousands of needles at once.

I still couldn't see clearly because of the good I took to my head. But I didn't let it stop me. I braised for his next impact. And soon as he brought his leg forward, I grabbed it and pulled it towards me.

He fell head first to the ground. Now we were both blurry eyed. I managed to stand and went to him.

Yanking him by his shirt, I dealt him the first blow. Then a series of others followed. He tussled me to the ground and retaliated.

I didn't back down. I threw him off me. It took a few seconds before we both regained our footing, panting hard with blood on our faces.

As if a whistle was blown, we rushed towards each other with tight fists ready for launch. But before any of us could make a hit, I heard the loud sound of a gun shit followed by the high pitched screams of the children.
