Chapter 2 - I became a vampire

Lucien opened his eyes and saw the ceiling of his small, miserable apartment. He turned his eyes to look at his laptop on the desk.

"How did I get home?" He gets out of bed and starts thinking. But his memories are a bit hazy...

"Damn you, you jerk! Why did you cheat on me with my best friend?!" Suddenly, he heard a voice full of hatred coming from beside the wall. It was as if it could freeze hell itself.

"Ugh... Why are they being so noisy so early?" Lucien put his hand to his head, feeling like it was going to hurt a lot.

He leans on the bed and tries to get up, but his hand sinks into the fabric, followed by the sound of wood breaking. He looks down at his hand and sees that it has gone right through the bed and part of the wooden floor!

He quickly pulled his hand away, confused, but when he saw the damage, he put it to his head. "The real estate agents are going to kill me," he lamented, knowing they would show him no mercy.

But he noticed something important... 'Since when have I been so strong? Did something happen to me?' Lucien begins to wonder if he consumed some kind of super soldier serum after leaving work.

He begins to form a coherent line of thought, as if he were putting together a puzzle: "... He leaves the company, then takes the subway, then hears some voices..."

He tried to follow the thread of his memories, but he got nowhere. It was as if a crucial part of a movie had been cut out.

"What the hell is happening to me?" He couldn't help asking aloud.

He didn't have time to get an answer, because suddenly Lucien clutched his throat tightly, feeling an unbearable thirst. It was as if he had gotten lost in the desert and needed a drink of water! His throat was parched!

Lucien quickly gets up, ignoring the creaking of the wood, and grabs the bathroom door handle, breaking it in the process.

He quickly enters the bathroom and tries to turn on the faucet.

But just like the handle, this one broke, but he didn't seem to care because his thirst was much greater than what he was trying to drive him crazy.

Five seconds passed, but the water never came out. He remembered at that moment that he had informed him that he was going to turn off the water for repairs.

"Damn... what's happening to me?" Lucien stood there, panting, his lips dry and his eyes bloodshot with frustration.

His thirst would not be quenched. On the contrary... it grew.

At that moment, a scream echoed from the other side of the wall.

"Get out, you unfaithful bastard! I never want to see you again in my life!"

Lucien turned toward the voice, panting heavily, his eyes glowing bright red, and he could see the image of a person, and could see the heart beating with a very addictive rhythm.

He could see the person's entire body, but with a red vision: it was as if the world around him had changed, as described in vampire novels; he could see the heart shining more brightly, as if inviting him to rip it out... and drink it.

"Shit, why did that son of a bitch have to sleep with my best friend?" Hearing the voice on the other side of the wall, Lucien snapped out of his drunken stupor.

He looks in the mirror and sees that his eyes have turned blood red. "Shit, what is this?" He recoils in fear, tripping over the toilet and falling to the floor.

Lucien got up from the floor, unable to resist the temptation to leave his apartment and rip out his neighbor's heart.

"Calm down," a woman's voice echoed in his head. It was an angelic and extremely beautiful voice, but it sounded very annoyed.

Lucien recovered quickly, his eyes returning to normal, but the thirst was still present, albeit more manageable.

He took a deep breath and sighed. "What the hell is wrong with me?" From the sudden thirst to a woman's voice echoing in his mind.

He turned to look at himself in the mirror and was surprised by what he saw. "Is this me...?" he muttered with a frown.

He was taller, had a well-defined body with muscles in all the right places, defined abs, and muscular arms. What stood out most about his appearance was his incredibly pale skin. She also noticed that his face was more defined; his green eyes and black hair had gained more luster.

"What the hell happened to me? Did I harass some aliens and get kidnapped, or was I in a superhuman program and didn't know it?" Lucien finds it hard to believe that the person in the mirror is him.

Because it wasn't scientifically impossible, and this wasn't a novel where you can change things from one moment to the next. But he couldn't deny what he was seeing, even if he wanted to.

He turned to leave the bathroom, but when he saw the mess, he put his hand to his forehead.

"Oh, crap... I'll have to eat tuna for a year."

...

An hour later.

While tidying up the small apartment, Lucien discovered that he had much more strength than usual, even though he had never set foot in a gym in his life.

Due to that change, the bed and other things broke. In addition, senses such as smell, hearing, sight, etc., were much more sensitive but not exaggerated like a certain superhero.

According to the tests he did, he can hear everything that happens in his apartment and in the neighborhood. It was annoying because he hears several voices at once and cannot distinguish them.

His sense of smell has also improved, but the only thing he can smell from several miles away is blood.

Another thing he learned is that he has another type of vision. When he switches to this vision, his world turns red, and he can see everything around him as if there were no walls. And in that world, he can see human silhouettes and their hearts glowing bright red.

Knowing this, Lucien thought about his very obvious changes: pale skin, red eyes, improved physical condition, and an insatiable thirst...

He let out an ironic laugh and muttered.

"It seems I've become... a vampire."

Now, knowing what he had become, following that line of thought, he thought about the most important thing.

The weaknesses of vampires.

"The most obvious weaknesses of vampires are: sunlight, religious symbols, water, silver, garlic, a stake through the heart..." Lucien smiled amusedly. "Although let's be honest, who doesn't die with a stake through their heart?"

After listing the weaknesses, he proceeded to test them. It was necessary, since it never hurts to know, and there's nothing to lose.

First, he started with water and garlic. He went over to the small refrigerator where there was a plastic bottle and a clove of garlic. He started with the water, but after two sips, nothing happened...

So he dismissed this weakness. When he smelled it, he felt like vomiting, but that was all. He didn't feel weaker or anything like that. It was as if his body rejected it.

"It seems I don't have these weaknesses..." Lucie muttered, throwing away the garlic in disgust. She looked around and saw no religious symbols, nor did she have any silver, so she dismissed them for the moment.

'What if I put a religious cantino on it, will that work?'

Anyway, that wasn't important; now came the litmus test, the sunlight.

He made his way to the apartment's only window, where black curtains prevented light from entering.

Lucien swallowed hard as his hands trembled. After all, vampires' greatest weakness was sunlight, and he had no desire to turn to ash. However, he needed to know if he had this weakness.

He sighed deeply, looked at the curtain, and opened it. As soon as the sunlight enters the apartment, he feels it bathing him with its warmth and touching his whole body; however, once again, nothing happens.

Lucien lay down on the bed and stared at the ceiling. "With no other obvious vampiric weaknesses, I don't want to try decapitating myself; I'm not crazy enough for that."

"Well, at least I didn't turn to ash," he said with a smile.
