Moments before.
Laura continued screaming as the flames devoured her skin, tearing off pieces of flesh as if her life were being stripped away. The smell of burning skin mingled with her own screams, dissolving into the night like a tragic echo.
And yet...
Despite the horror and the pain that pierced her like thousands of burning needles, inside, she was relieved.
Relieved that she hadn't handed Nilo over to those fanatics in robes. From the way they spoke, she could have sworn they were Templars high on incense.
'If only I could talk to Lucien one last time... and mock his stupid virginity,' she thought, allowing herself a crooked smile as part of her cheek fell away.
The pain reached an inhuman level.
So much so that, suddenly... she no longer felt anything.
Her nerves burned out. Her senses went out like candles in a storm.
And her consciousness was suspended in a strange, almost peaceful silence, while the flames consumed her body.
