I couldn't pull myself away from him anymore. The longing that clawed at my chest grew stronger each passing day. My decision to keep distance from Dary felt like a distant memory. Within weeks he had become the center of my world.
Yet I understood he remained nothing more than a fantasy. What we shared was fleeting. He would never claim me as his Luna. I had learned he was the most powerful Alpha in the North, following in his father's footsteps. Perhaps even more formidable since he came from mated parents. Whatever existed between us would shatter once these trials ended. Then I would vanish.
My thoughts spun in chaos constantly. His presence filled me with pure bliss and contentment, but his absence left me drowning in despair. Sleep had eluded me for days, yet last night I slept more peacefully than I had in months.
Dary appeared to have slept just as deeply.
