Leaving Seraphine behind felt like torture, especially when every fiber of my being craved more of her touch. The taste of her still lingered on my lips, and the memory of her soft moans echoed in my head. But Kayne had used the word emergency, and in my world, that meant life or death.

I drove hard toward the southern border, my hands gripping the steering wheel until my knuckles went white. The scent hit me before I even stepped out of the car. Blood. Thick and metallic, hanging heavy in the morning air like a warning.

Warriors surrounded the scene, their faces grim. The moment they spotted me, they stepped aside, creating a path. Kayne approached with quick strides, his expression darker than I had seen in years.

I barely managed to keep my voice level when I spoke. The lingering heat from Seraphine still burned through my veins, making my patience razor thin. Every second away from her felt like wasted time.
