I didn't sleep that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Lily and Asher sitting across from each other in that conference room, talking like old friends.
By 3 in the morning, I'd given up on sleep and pulled out my laptop. I opened the security footage archives and started watching footage from the time Asher started coming to the office.
I could see how Lily's usual dressing style changed to mine, how she started using business terminology in her conversations like Asher. She became more confident and professional.
I stared at an image on my screen in which Lily was laughing at something Asher said, her hand rested briefly on his forearm. It looked friendly but deliberate.
What is happening with Lily??
I arrived at Siren Gems at 7:30, exhausted. Lily came around 8:15 with my usual vanilla latte.
"Morning." She said brightly, putting the cup on my desk. "You look tired, rough night?"
I forced a smile.
"Just couldn't sleep. There's too much on my mind."
