Chapter 3 - [DEM] 3: Help?

Homeroom teacher?

Morpheus's mind raced, quickly recalling who his homeroom teacher was.

What was even more interesting was that this teacher wasn't some nobody—nor was she a high-profile character like Shizuka Hiratsuka or Mafuyu Kirisu.

She had her own popularity, though.

It was Sawako Yamanaka, the advisor of the Light Music Club from K-On!.

However, in this crossover world, Sawako Yamanaka hadn't joined the storyline's Sakuragaoka High School.

Instead, she was at another school: Sakurai Academy.

Sound familiar?

That's right—it's the same Sakurai Academy from Seitokai Yakuindomo.

In the original plot of Seitokai Yakuindomo, Sakurai Academy, a private high school with a fifty-year history, was a traditional girls' school that transitioned to co-ed due to declining birth rates.

In this world, Sakurai Academy had followed the same path.

Morpheus's predecessor had joined Sakurai Academy in the year it became co-ed.

And he became a student there.

Another thing worth mentioning: the main girls from K-On! were also at Sakurai Academy.

Morpheus's predecessor was actually in the same class as one of the protagonists, Mio Akiyama.

With that thought, Morpheus opened the door.

Sure enough, standing at the entrance was a bespectacled, mature beauty in a formal outfit.

It was Sawako Yamanaka.

Seeing Morpheus open the door, Sawako smiled faintly. "Morpheus, right? Won't you invite your teacher in to sit?"

Morpheus snapped to attention, nodding and stepping aside. "Come in, Sensei."

"Then I'll make myself at home."

Sawako Yamanaka stepped inside, passing through the entryway into the living room. She glanced back at Morpheus and asked, "May I sit, Sensei?"

"Please, have a seat."

Sawako smiled, settling onto the sofa. She patted the spot next to her and said, "Come sit, Morpheus-kun."

Morpheus didn't hesitate, walking over and sitting down. "Sensei, what brings you here today?"

Sawako gave Morpheus a cautious look before saying, "If I recall correctly, Morpheus-kun, you're an international student, right?"

"That's correct," Morpheus confirmed.

Sawako asked, "Have you run into any difficulties?"

"Why do you ask?" Morpheus was curious, prompting her with a question.

"Because you haven't been to school for three days. I was wondering if you, studying abroad alone, might have encountered some trouble. If so, would you mind sharing it with your teacher?"

Sawako offered a gentle, almost maternal smile. "I may not be anyone important, but I've accumulated some experience and knowledge over my years as a teacher."

"If you're facing any trouble, Morpheus-kun, maybe I can help."

Morpheus was genuinely surprised. He hadn't expected Sawako Yamanaka to be so concerned.

"Sensei, you're really a kind person."

Flattered by Morpheus's words, Sawako's smile grew brighter, and she waved her hand modestly. "Kind is a bit much, but I just want to be a responsible teacher."

"After all, Morpheus-kun, you're my student."

She paused for a moment before continuing, "So, can you tell me about the trouble you're facing?"

Morpheus snapped out of his thoughts and smiled. "To be honest, Sensei, I did run into a slight problem these past few days, but it's resolved now."

"I'll be back at school the day after tomorrow, so please don't worry."

Why the day after tomorrow? Because today was Saturday, tomorrow was Sunday, and the next day was when school resumed.

"Really?" Sawako looked at Morpheus intently, as if trying to discern whether he was lying.

"It's true."

Morpheus met her gaze steadily.

He wasn't lying. Though he hadn't yet found the yokai that devoured his predecessor, in his eyes, that yokai was already as good as dead.

Seeing Morpheus's unwavering gaze, Sawako let out a sigh of relief.

"That's great to hear, Morpheus-kun. I'll be waiting for you at school the day after tomorrow. Don't be late, okay?"

"Don't worry, Sensei, I won't," Morpheus assured her confidently.

Though Sawako hadn't actually helped, Morpheus appreciated her willingness to try.

She was indeed a good teacher.

Morpheus always respected such good-hearted people.

After confirming Morpheus was okay, Sawako gave him a few more words of advice before standing to leave.

Morpheus escorted her to the door, watched her depart, then returned to his room, changed his clothes, and left the house.

His purpose for going out was, of course, to find the yokai that had devoured his predecessor.

His predecessor's memories of the yokai were vague.

All he knew was that it was an extremely ferocious yokai.

As for what kind of yokai it was, the predecessor wasn't sure—only that it was a man-eating yokai.

Well, great.

Morpheus didn't even know where to begin with that.

There was no helping it; the predecessor's death had been so agonizing that he instinctively suppressed those memories.

As a result, the memories Morpheus inherited were incomplete.

The closer they were to the moment of death, the more fragmented they became.

So much so that Morpheus himself didn't know which yokai had killed his predecessor.

Fortunately, though the predecessor had forgotten the details of his death, he remembered the yokai's voice—or rather, its tone.

Thus, Morpheus was confident that if he heard that voice again, he'd recognize the yokai.

So, this time, Morpheus set out to inquire about man-eating yokai in Tokyo from the local yokai community.

He'd visit them one by one until he found the one that ate his predecessor.

His first stop was the yokai organization in Ukiyoe Town.

Anyone who's seen Nurarihyon no Mago knows what kind of yokai organization operates in Ukiyoe Town.

The Nura Clan.

In Nurarihyon no Mago, the Nura Clan is the largest yokai faction in eastern Japan, with over seventy subordinate groups and a total of more than ten thousand yokai.

Its leader is known as the "Lord of Pandemonium."

Even in this chaotic world, where the Nura Clan might not have the same overwhelming influence as in the original story, it was still a force to be reckoned with.

At the very least, finding a man-eating yokai shouldn't be too difficult for them.

As for whether the Nura Clan would agree to help, Morpheus wasn't worried about being refused.

After all, as a Extra-Dimensional Demon, he had every right to tell the Nura Clan to do it.

This was a job they'd have to take, whether they wanted to or not.

Morpheus was just that domineering.
