Chapter 10 - [DEM] 10: Fabricated Memories

Unlike his predecessor, Morpheus had no talent for cooking.

But that was fine—he could simply find a chef to prepare his meals.

This crossover world was a chaotic blend of various universes, including Shokugeki no Soma.

So, Morpheus decided to visit Totsuki Academy to recruit a few capable chefs.

As for who—Megumi Tadokoro or Erina Nakiri?

Well, as the saying goes, kids make choices; adults take all.

As a Extra-Dimensional Demon, it was only reasonable to have a couple of devotees, right?

Even Dormammu had a legion of followers. Why should Morpheus, a fellow Extra-Dimensional Demon, be any different?

With that thought, Morpheus eagerly made his way to Totsuki Academy.

It was Saturday, and the academy's gates were locked, but that was no obstacle.

If a mere gate could stop him, what kind of Extra-Dimensional Demon would he be?

Even a magician like Zatanna from the DC universe—whose family had guarded the Orb of Truth for generations—could manipulate weather, move objects with her mind, read thoughts, teleport, travel through time, distort reality, counter psychic attacks, reflect energy, control time, project magical energy beams, shape energy, transfer energy, create force fields, fly, heal, cast illusions, shapeshift, and more.

If she could do it, so could Morpheus.

Thus, he entered Totsuki Academy with ease.

But once inside, he noticed something off.

The campus was teeming with bizarre malevolent spirits—far more than on the streets outside.

This was intriguing.

A school with more spirits than the outside world?

That wasn't normal.

Was something at Totsuki Academy attracting these spirits?

Curiosity piqued, Morpheus decided to investigate what was wrong with the academy and why it drew so many spirits.

To observe closely, he used his formidable mental powers to hypnotize the faculty and students, implanting a fabricated memory.

In an instant, Morpheus, a culinary novice, became a specially appointed teacher at Totsuki Academy.

He walked the halls openly.

Most students greeted him as "Teacher," ignoring his youthful face.

As he strolled through a corridor, a girl with golden hair and a cold expression emerged from a classroom.

She wore Totsuki's uniform, her legs clad in sleek black stockings, her golden hair cascading to her waist, shimmering in the sunlight.

Erina Nakiri, the heroine of Shokugeki no Soma.

Behind her followed another girl in the same uniform, with short pinkish-purple hair—a classic beauty.

Hisako Arato, Erina's loyal aide, nicknamed "Secretary-chan" by the fandom.

"Stop!"

Erina halted, eyeing Morpheus suspiciously. "Who are you, and why are you at Totsuki Academy?"

Morpheus blinked, caught off guard. Hisako, confused, quickly said, "Miss, he's a teacher here. Did you forget?"

"A teacher?" Erina frowned. "Since when do we have such a young teacher? Why wasn't I informed?"

"Well…" Hisako started to explain but froze.

She knew Morpheus was a new teacher, but when had he joined? What was his specialty? She realized she didn't even know his name.

Something was wrong. Very wrong.

Hisako grew wary.

Morpheus had been lazy when implanting memories, simply assigning himself the role of a teacher without any backstory.

Most people wouldn't notice the flaw or question his identity.

"You're not right," Morpheus said, his gaze flickering as he studied Erina. "I'm curious. I hypnotized everyone in this school, implanting false memories. Why aren't you affected?"

Could it be her God Tongue?

No way. A mere God Tongue couldn't resist his power.

Unless it was something like a God Brain or Touma Kamijou's Imagine Breaker from A Certain Magical Index.

But did Erina have anything like that?

As the heroine of Shokugeki no Soma, she shouldn't.

Yet, she was undeniably immune to his hypnosis. That was strange.

Morpheus admitted he hadn't used much power, wary of overwhelming ordinary humans and causing mental collapse.

But that wasn't reason enough for Erina to resist.

Hisako, standing right beside her, had been hypnotized, hadn't she?

Why was Erina immune?

There had to be something more.

Could this be why Totsuki was overrun with spirits?

Driven by curiosity, Morpheus asked outright.

Asking when unsure was one of his strengths.

At the word "hypnosis," Hisako's face darkened. She instinctively stepped in front of Erina.

"Who are you, and what's your goal in infiltrating our school?"

She didn't doubt Morpheus could hypnotize her—she was living proof.

In this chaotic world, where vampires openly existed and built a Dominion, and rumors swirled that Mahora Academy was a magic school, someone skilled in hypnosis wasn't surprising.

As Morpheus prepared to answer, Erina pushed Hisako aside.

"I'm giving you one chance. Undo the hypnosis on Totsuki Academy immediately, or don't blame me for what happens next."

"Oh? Interesting. And if I don't, what will you do?" Morpheus asked with a grin.
