Chapter 3 - Chapter Three

Geometry. Math has always been my favorite subject. My pencil flew over my paper, and I quickly marked down the answers. Hearing the door open broke my contraction, and my eyes saw an unrecognizable face, a beautiful face at that. I usually don't pay much attention to girls, but she was breathtaking.

"Students pencil down," I heard the Professor say. Mine was already down, and I was already staring at this girl like an idiot.

"This is Abby, she's a new student, previously homeschooled." She waved awkwardly and took a seat. My eyes watched her as she sat down. I knew she must think I was some freak, but I was drawn to her, and something was inviting me in. Getting up from my desk, I am the first to turn my paper in, which doesn't shock me; I always am. The Professor smiled and got busy grading my work. Walking back to my desk, I got a peek at Finn's paper. He was busy drawing doodles on his. I shook my hand. He is barely passing any of his classes.

Hearing the bell ring, I felt happy that class was finally over, so I gathered my books and left class. Annette was in my next class, and I was always excited to see her. Taking one last peek at the beauty who stole my curiosity, I noticed she was watching me this time. I could smile and wave, but I prefer to avoid getting involved with others. I saw Annette waiting for me in the doorway. She wore a smile, which drew my attention to her.

"Look, Abel," she held up the paper she wrote, flashing me her perfect score. She loves writing and wants to pursue journalism. I believe she is very talented, and I am proud of her dedication.

"Nice, Annette, that's wonderful. I knew you were going to ace it." She gives me one of her famous half-smiles and then clings to my arm as we walk down the hallway. She normally does when walking to our classes together, stuck to me like glue. It doesn't bother me, having a very beautiful girl on my arm; it feels nice. I knew it got under Elias's skin.

I walked Annette to her locker, and I always felt eyes on us. I know some people are wondering why we are not together as a couple. Maybe I am a little too much with Annette. I don't want her to develop feelings for me, and I have to let her down. Great, it looks like Abby got the empty locker next to Annette. Just like Annette, she appeared very shy, but it was her first day at school. I can only imagine how nervous she must feel. Annette dropped her hold on my arm and started rummaging through her locker.

"I'll meet you in class, Buttercup."

She smiled at me, and this time I got a full smile. She must really like the nickname.

"Okay, Able."

"Able, let me borrow your English homework, please?" Elias asked, approaching.

"If you had done your homework instead of you know." I can't admit that he drank last night. "Elias, I'll scratch your back or something."

"Knock that off, the last thing I need is people thinking we were gay together."

When Annette laughed, I observed that Abby smiled.

"Please." He whimpered with his lower lip at me.

"Fine." I rolled my eyes, handing him my paper.
