Chapter 16 - Chapter Sixteen

The sky was black, and the stars twinkled above as she sat on a log, staring up at the night sky. I made my way toward her, and her gray eyes analyzed me as I approached.

"Sorry, I just snatched your phone like that," I said.

"I just wish you would understand," she replied.

I took a seat next to her. "You feel like you need him because you don't have anyone else."

She nodded. "He doesn't always act badly. There are moments when he's really sweet."

"But I'm sure the bad outweighs the good. He's hurting you, Abby."

I watched her face break into a frown. "If I don't have him, I don't have anyone else."

I knelt in front of her, brushing a stray hair behind her ear. "You have me. I will never hurt you. Besides, those boys in this streak are some pretty good fellas."

Her smile made my heart skip a beat, and I couldn't help but smile back.

"What about Annette?" she asked.

"What about her?" I replied.

"I feel like she has feelings for you. I can see the way she looks at you."

She raised an eyebrow.

I swallowed hard for some reason; the topic was stirring up some of my own feelings.

"She's with Elias," I said.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud when she narrowed her eyes at me. I understood it was difficult to believe, especially with those two arguing just a few yards away.

I reached out my hand to help her up, and she took it. I assisted her to her feet, and we walked back toward the others.

I watched as Abby sat down by the fire next to Annette. I felt a little disheartened when Annette looked in the opposite direction, not even offering Abby a smile. Annette was usually very friendly, so something must be bothering her. Maybe she was just upset because of Elias.

I saw Elias putting on his cowboy boots.

"You should be taking your clothes off, not putting them on," I teased.

"My girl is mad at me, so that's not going to happen tonight," he replied.

I was technically indicating that it was nighttime, which usually led to sleep. I felt a shiver in my mind just thinking about him touching Annette like that; it made me feel sick to my stomach.

"That's not what I meant, but it's nightfall. Where are you going?"

"Back to the club for a while."

"Elias..."

"Look dude, I'm not Finn. I'm not going to get drunk off my ass, and I'm not you, so I'm not going to get into a brawl or anything."

I laughed. "Fine. I haven't had the best behavior lately."

I watched as Elias walked away. I noticed Annette's pleading gaze directed at him, but he just brushed it aside.

I made my way into my tent, feeling a funny suspicion that Annette would end up in my tent tonight. This was going to be so awkward, not only for me but also for Elias and Abby.

I quickly changed into some shorts. It was a bit chilly, but I didn't mind running around without a shirt; I don't get cold easily. I heard snoring from the tent next to mine and couldn't help but laugh at the thought of Finn already passed out.

Suddenly, I heard someone enter my tent, and I was shocked to hear a small, tiny voice. It wasn't Annette; it was Abby.
