Chapter 195 - Chapter 191 Return to Hong Kong

Kallon was a spy from the Iron Throne stationed in Miracle Port; he had been rooted here as a Free Folk since the construction of Miracle Port began.

For him, life in Miracle Port was his dream life: a stable job, a stable income, a loving wife, and his wife was pregnant.

But he knew very well that none of this was real; with a mere flick of a finger from King's Landing, his beautiful life would completely vanish, so he needed to frequently provide useful intelligence to King's Landing.

A month ago, providing some information about the merchant guilds at Miracle Port's docks would have been enough to satisfy King's Landing, but now it was no longer sufficient; information related to Lynd was what King's Landing was most concerned about, and if others obtained information about Lynd while he did not, he would be in trouble.

Therefore, upon learning that Lynd had subdued the sea dragon and was on his way back to Miracle Port, he used his identity as a fisherman, under the pretext of fishing, to stay in the outer sea of Miracle Port for several days, and he even had a special messenger raven on his boat, intending to transmit the news as soon as he confirmed Lynd's return to Miracle Port.

However, after waiting for several days, all he saw were ships from various merchant guilds, and no warships from the Miracle Fleet, which made Kallon wonder if the news of Lynd's return to Miracle Port was true.

"I'll go back after one more day," Kallon looked at the dwindling food and fresh water on the boat, sighed, and muttered to himself.

Time passed bit by bit, and the gradually accumulating dark clouds in the sky made him a little worried; based on his many years of experience, it would rain in this sea area after a while, though he didn't know if it would be a heavy storm or a temporary light rain.

Things turned out just as Kallon had expected; the sky began to rain, and along with the rain, strong winds and lightning also appeared.

Kallon had already furled the sails and pulled up the anchor; he sat in the middle of the small boat, tying himself to the boat, holding a wooden bucket, ready to scoop out water at any time.

Encountering a storm at sea was not a big deal for Kallon; as long as his small fishing boat was not torn apart by the storm, he would be fine.

Although Kallon was not a devout believer, he still pretended to be one for his mission, praying at the Miracle Sanctuary every day; over time, he also developed the habit of praying to the Seven Gods whenever something unexpected happened, just as he was now praying to the Smith, praying that the nails and caulk holding the wooden planks together would withstand the ravages of the storm.

Just as he was praying, a familiar whale song pierced through the storm, through his prayer book, and into his ears.

Before coming to Miracle Port, he was a whaler on the Spearhead in King's Landing, so he was very familiar with whale songs; he could tell from the song alone that it was a red-backed whale, a species that inhabits the Dorne Sea.

These red-backed whales spend the winter in the warm Dorne Sea and swim north to the Shivering Sea in the summer to reproduce, only returning the following winter.

In the Dorne Sea, red-backed whales are a symbol of good luck; if a fisherman encounters a red-backed whale, his catch for the day will be plentiful, and if a merchant ship encounters one, its voyage for the day will be very smooth.

Although Kallon didn't believe in such things, he was still happy to encounter a red-backed whale, because he knew very well that red-backed whales never appear on the surface of the sea during such a big storm; they only stay in the calm deep sea, waiting for the storm to pass, and now that a red-backed whale had appeared, it might mean that this sudden storm would not last too long or be too severe.

Just as Kallon was relieved to encounter the red-backed whale, a huge whale with a clearly visible red back swam past the fishing boat from the sea ahead, followed closely by fourteen or fifteen more, some of whose tail-slapping movements nearly capsized Kallon's fishing boat.

"Something's wrong! Why are red-backed whales swimming in groups?" Upon seeing so many red-backed whales swimming together, Kallon was not excited at all, but rather perplexed.

Because, as far as he knew, unless it was the north-south migration, red-backed whales rarely appeared in pods; they mostly lived in their respective sea areas until the lead whale emitted the migration song, at which point they would gather together.

What made Kallon even more confused was that his current location was in the shallow coastal waters near the coastline, and it was also the westernmost part of the Dorne Sea, where the water was not very deep, completely unsuitable for red-backed whales to live there, yet so many red-backed whales appeared at the same time, which was definitely not a normal situation.

Just as Kallon was utterly bewildered, a huge mouth emerged from the seabed, instantly swallowing a colossal red-backed whale, similar in size to a large merchant ship, into its mouth; then, two sharp claws stretched out from the sea, grabbing two red-backed whales of similar size, while the rest of the red-backed whales scattered in panic, several of them fleeing in the wrong direction, towards the shallow waters of the coastline, stranding themselves on a shoal.

"Dragon! Sea Dragon!" Kallon now saw the full extent of that large mouth; it was an incredibly huge dragon head, behind which was a slender neck, and the dragon's body could vaguely be seen undulating beneath the surface of the sea; two powerful dragon claws with tattered wings, having seized two red-backed whales, held them firmly, no matter how much the red-backed whales struggled, they could not break free from the dragon's grasp.

Following that, he saw the dragon's neck expand and contract, and a red-backed whale-shaped bulge moved along the neck, rapidly being swallowed into its belly.

Immediately after, the two red-backed whales held by the dragon were also swallowed whole, one after another, into its stomach.

Just as Kallon was stunned by the sight before him, longships in the style of the Iron Islands emerged from the distant rain and mist; these ships seemed to ignore the giant dragon before them, sailing towards it.

The giant dragon, in turn, turned its head towards the longships, let out a roar towards the largest longship at the front of the fleet, and then submerged back into the water.

Kallon's gaze immediately fell upon that longship; despite the heavy rain, he still saw the person standing at the bow, and from the prominent Greatsword at his waist, he recognized his identity as the Lord of Summerhall, Divine Chosen One Linde Terra, the target he had been waiting for all these days.

"The rumors are true, he really subdued the sea dragon!" Kallon was incredibly shocked, and he only came to his senses after the last ship of the fleet passed by.

Coming to his senses, he immediately took out the prepared paper and pen, quickly wrote down what he had seen, then took out his messenger raven, inserted the message into the cylinder on its leg, grabbed it, and tossed it into the air, letting it fly back to the Raven's Nest in King's Landing.

However, before the messenger raven could fly high into the sky, a huge mouth burst out of the sea and swallowed it whole; then, a tail whipped out from beneath Kallon's fishing boat, directly smashing the fishing boat, and Kallon himself was struck by the force of the tail, turning into a spray of blood in the air.

Although Kallon believed his actions were very secretive and would not be noticed, what he didn't know was that he wasn't the first spy disguised as a fishing boat that Lynd had encountered.

Along the way, Lynd had already encountered more than a dozen similar fishing boats. At first, Lynd was patient enough to capture and interrogate a spy, but because he encountered too many of them later, he simply handed over the task of dealing with these spies to Glutton.

And Glutton executed his orders very well, dealing with all the disguised fishermen whom Lynd identified as spies.

Moreover, without Lynd's specific instructions on how to deal with them, it did not use the simplest and most direct method of devouring the fishing boats, but instead directly crushed those spies with its dragon claws or tail.

This clearly showed that a rule had formed in its mind, similar to Lynd's, that humans should not be eaten if possible.

Lynd had no intention of preventing the news of his return from spreading; in fact, such news could not be concealed at all. He merely wanted an excuse to deal with those restless spies.

As the fleet approached Miracle Port, Lynd encountered more and more ships, all of which belonged to large and small merchant guilds from all over the world.

At this moment, Lynd no longer stood at the bow of the Nightwalker, but instead moved to the top of Glutton's head, and had Glutton float on the sea surface, displaying its massive body.

All the ships that witnessed this scene raised the Miracle Merchant Guild flag to the highest mast and blew their horns.

For a time, the sounds of horns, large and small, rose and fell across the sea, spreading towards Miracle Port. When Lynd, riding Glutton, arrived at Miracle Port, the bells of Miracle Sanctuary, the bells of the Great Lighthouse, and all the bells in the city rang out, and the horns of all the ships at the dock also sounded.

The docks were full of people, the rooftops were crowded with people, and all the ships were packed with people. Everyone looked expectantly at Lynd, who was riding on Glutton's head. Therefore, Lynd did not let Glutton land directly at the military port dock, but instead had it circle in front of Miracle Port's dock, accepting everyone's cheers, before turning back to the enclosed military port dock.

Lynd dismounted from the dragon's head and let Glutton return to the sea to find a suitable place to build a Dragon Nest in the nearby waters.

"Everyone, you've worked hard during this time," Lynd said to the officials of Miracle Port, big and small, who were still immersed in shock, after watching Glutton sink into the sea.

Hearing Lynd's words, everyone came back to their senses and quickly used the best words they could think of to express their hard work during this period, saying that the dangers Lynd encountered were not worth mentioning.

Faced with this answer full of superb flattery, Lynd couldn't help but smile and had no intention of bothering with these officials. He directly sent most of the Miracle Port officials back to work, leaving only Wise Rowan, the Miracle Port Steward, Scarface, the Commander of the Garrison, Gorman Settigar, the Executive President of the Miracle Merchant Guild, and Daisy Mormont and Obara Sand, the co-commanders of the Garrison's female camp, who were high-ranking officials of Miracle Port.

After leading everyone to the office of the Miracle Fleet Commander at the dock, Lynd made them wait for a while while he washed up and changed his clothes, as he hadn't washed for over two months and had a strong odor.

After washing up, Lynd came to the office and listened to the officials of Miracle Port report, one by one, on recent events in Miracle Port and matters that needed to be dealt with.

Although Bale Blackteas had already reported the general situation of the territory to Lynd, those reports were too simple, only a general overview without more specific details.

Now, the reports from the Miracle Port officials were much more detailed, especially from Daisy Mormont and Obara Sand, the frontline officers who participated in the unified battle at the southwestern end of the Red Mountains, who reported the entire war process in great detail.

Although the process of this battle, as heard from Bale Blackteas, was incredibly smooth, in reality, the entire battle still had some twists and turns. For example, in that environment, cavalry was basically useless, and all forces were primarily infantry. Those Savage Tribes were very familiar with the surrounding environment and were good at attacking the weak points of the legions. The early battles were very ugly, and many people were killed or wounded.

Fortunately, Nameria later brought Glory and Stone Giant over. Glory discovered hidden enemy tracks, and the Stone Giant, clad in bronze armor, attacked and destroyed the defensive fortifications of the Savage Tribes, which brought the war back on track.

Although this battle was the first war since Lynd established the Miracle Legion as a standing army, and it ended in a great victory, the reports from Daisy and Obara also revealed many problems with this army that needed to be gradually corrected.

However, a major problem can now be corrected, which is the lack of a fixed commander for the Miracle Legion.

Lynd's original idea was to build the Miracle Legion into a military department similar to a standing army training camp, without high-ranking officers, only low-ranking officers like captains. When the Miracle Legion needed to participate in combat, a team of people would be directly transferred to a knight officer's command to fight, which could avoid the problem of excessive singular military power.

But now it seems that military power has indeed been effectively suppressed, but combat effectiveness has also become an issue. This combat effectiveness is not the combat effectiveness of individual soldiers, but the combat effectiveness formed by overall command.

The knight officers who temporarily gained command of these Miracle Legion troops had no training in how to command these troops in battle, ultimately leading to chaotic coordination and disorganized fighting, like a rural brawl.

So, just after listening to Daisy's report, Lynd had the idea of normalizing and regularizing the Miracle Legion, and the first step in regularization was to select a suitable commander for the legion.

So Lynd looked at Daisy and asked, "Daisy, are you interested in becoming the first commander of the Miracle Legion?"

As Lynd's words fell, everyone couldn't help but look at Daisy, and Daisy also couldn't help but be stunned, though complex emotions also appeared on her face.

Although the Miracle Legion is now considered by everyone to be the weakest combat force among all of Lynd's military departments, it still has a standing army of five thousand, and its weapons and equipment are also the best standard weapons. To become the commander of such an army is definitely a position that any knight who yearns for war dreams of.

However, for Daisy, this position came a little late.

Daisy sighed and said, "My Lord, I cannot accept your appointment, and I'm afraid I also need to resign from my current position."

Lynd was stunned and asked, "Why?"

Daisy sighed and said, "My cousin Jorah Mormont privately trafficked slaves and was sentenced to death by Duke Eddard. He had already fled with his wife before Duke Eddard went to Bear Island to pronounce the sentence, and his title was consequently stripped."

Lynd frowned and said, "Shouldn't the title of Bear Island be inherited by your mother, Lady Maege, in order?"

Daisy said with a dejected expression, "My mother plans to give up the title and hopes that I will return to take it."
