Chapter 3 - Vulpine Huntress

About two hours had passed since the hunters' arrival. Meals had been prepared and eaten. Beds had been arranged for the guests, and there were enough spare toothbrushes to accommodate them. Aiden never imagined he would see the day there would be a splash of colour in the bathroom from their colourful handles. But it brought a sense he hadn't felt in a while. Normality.

While the other three headed toward their rooms, Aiden had decided to crash on the couch. The rift was closed for now. A barrier prevented anything from wandering inside, and from the living room, he could spot anyone who dared wander near the basement door. The only issue with this was that the couch wasn't exactly comfortable.

The LED screen lit up, and cracks ran along the glass, biting at his finger as he dragged it toward the call button. It rang a couple of times, but no one picked up. After all, the house was in Japan, and his father was in America. A few seconds passed, and his dark eyes stared back at him through the reflection of the screen. Faint footsteps rang from upstairs; clearly, the girls hadn't settled down, and they wouldn't for a while.

His hand drifted down onto the black wood flooring; it felt...warm. 'It seems mother has yet to fall asleep. She's never been quiet with visitors around.' Aiden patted his side, and blood continued to leak, albeit less than before.

The kitchen tiles were bitterly cold against his bare feet, but it didn't bother Aiden. In an instant, the bandages were changed. In all these years, he had become a pro at patching himself up. And 'She' watched him every time, scratching at the door, poking her goat eyes through the darkness. Her face was always veiled by a thick shadow that not even sunlight could pierce.

"I am sorry about all of this commotion...they are here to help you get better. So please hang on a little longer..." He stopped himself from leaning too close; the pull of her profane aura was powerful, but not enough to completely override Aiden's consciousness. However...

"Hey, Hey! So like, Aiden. There are only two beds, so I was thinking~" Aiden's head snapped back, and there she was, Lyra the rogue. This time in a more casual pyjama set. But he still felt peeved, scared even, because...he didn't hear her footsteps. "How about we sleep together!" She leapt forward like a vulpine beast, barely missing Aiden, who had fled toward the staircase.

'Freaky woman.' Aiden dashed up the stairs, barricading himself in the first room available. The iron lock clicked, and the light flicked off. Two pairs of creaking steps closed in toward him; this time, he felt relieved. "I'm sorry for the intrusion, but Lyra is behaving like an animal and I don't want to be around her."

Silence. He expected as much from outside the door, but why had the two girls not answered? The light revealed nothing. Empty. Before a shiver could even make it past his neck, Aiden bolted through the door, smashing the lock and twisting his body down the stairs toward the basement door. 'Those sly foxes!'

"Prepare yourselves to fight against the great spirit!" Ryn chanted, and blood seeped from her crown of thorns into talismans that wrapped themselves around the black iron daggers Lyra was proud of.

Meilin, however, stood far back, in the living room even. A swift chop knocked out the frail girl. Silver flashed through the air as it sliced Lyra's cheek.

"Foxes were never known for their manners." His eyes burned with darkness. The air didn't even seem to notice he vanished, hand wrapped tightly around Ryn's throat as her body cracked the black and white tiles. Crimson seeped onto the floor as two creatures of close-quarter combat circled each other. Aiden's speed was amplified in the domain of the wendigo.

Lyra smiled, the daggers, which were never reflective, seemed to possess an otherworldly vibrance, pulsing like hot fire. "A few seconds longer and we would've broken the seal. You are a dangerous pup- I mean Aiden, that is your name, right?" She licked the blood from her cheek.

"Devious bitch. You are more of a heyna than anything. Take your friends and get the hell out of my house!" Aiden knew she wouldn't listen, but buying time was all he could do. The injuries were only slightly better, but the wound of trusting people into his home and being played cut much deeper.

"My my, that won't do. Seeing that...face, That expression makes me feel so-" Lyra's figure shook from excitement as drool dripped down her face. "-good~" Sparks flew, dancing across the dimly lit room as the two conversed through slices.

Aiden ducked, hair trimmed instead of his neck. Silver pierced her muscular forearm, pushing her back slightly. She gasped for air, a raspy chant left her lips as she struggled to hold back an agonising scream. Aiden's eyes grew wide, jumping toward the back of the kitchen as light illuminated his void-like irises. He watched as she burst into light as the final words of the incantation were uttered.

Fire. Lyra's figure lit ablaze. Two blue ears popped from her scalp along with three fiery tails, and the bleeding stopped. Even the recent wound vanished into a small fire. "I can't believe we have to use our divine powers on someone like you. But that makes me all the more interested in you, Aiden~"

His body froze under her touch, the distance between them had vanished, and now her soft hand caressed his chest. Even the sweat was too scared to leave his pores. Everything her glowing green eyes laid upon became her's, such was the authority of the Nine-Tailed Fox. Lyra wielded the speed and strength of a great sage with terrifying ease.

Aiden's body hit the floor, brain shaking as his skull smashed against the tiles. Lyra climbed atop him, cutting his shirt apart with the tip of his own silver blade. "Let's see what makes you so special. And don't be afraid, I will heal any wound after I get to feel your insides~"

A faint buzzing sound wafted through the air, the living room lit up into a flurry of music, a particularly girly one his father had set up for himself. Lyra fled, returning quickly and answering the phone for Aiden.

"Hello there, Mr Aros, your son and I are about to get it on, so maybe call back later~" She hung up the phone and plopped it onto the counter, reassuming her stance and stroking the muscles that had carved themselves along Aiden's chest.

"Let the fun begin~"
