Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Last piece

Night moved swiftly in a stance and struck down a wounded spawn instantly. The hex's voice echoed.

[You have slain Twilight horror, blackened heart]

He dug into the corpse quickly and found a black rock. Few spheres of lights revolved around his palm and then a half completed black orb appeared. Without waiting, he placed the piece on it, they joined with a darkly glow and runes appeared in front of him.

[7/10].

After the incident with the first blackened heart, he changed a bit, it felt like the pain and effects of having no real memories finally started eating at him. Half of his memories of 16 years of his life were blank the remaining half were like an uncompleted puzzle with wrong pieces connected to each other. Still it never really bothered him till..now.

After wandering around again he ended back to the lake, he didn't feel as fazed as before. He simply got to work, the orb dissipated into dust as he started. The blade appeared out of light as he swung it, a tree fell down a single swing, he didn't react at all. The sword shrank down as he ready it, then started peeling off the bark of the tree. It was easy but hard to maintain the blade from cutting too deep into the tree. Soon sap began to seep out then he gathered sliced meat and soaked it in it, the with the shaved bark and some wood he began a fire. Then placed the meat in a weird shaped bowl made out of wood covered in mud and moss. Then he hit himself In the face, his cheeks began to redden as he thought to himself, there was no need to remain gloomy forever, one way or the other he would find the truth as well as all his memories and till then, he would keep moving forward.

Soon the broth was ready and the foul stench of the meat was gone. He picked up a wooden spoon and started eating. Just like the roasted meat, the broth was on another level. A few days he found that the tree sap contained a neutralizing essence, if he eat the meat without it not only would he get poisoned, he would eventually get to know how it felt like to be a spawn.

After finishing the broth, he summoned back the blade and went back out.

Lunging forward, he struck a spawn with all his force, jumped back to a few steps away then pushed himself forward. The blades weight made him faster, the moment he struck again, the hex's voice echoed.

[You have slain Twilight Horror, blackened soul]

Before he could morph the blade, he felt a pulse in his chest no beyond that, he summoned the orb immediately. As soon as it fully manifested, the black stone in the corpse shot out and attached to the orb. The runes appeared:

[9/10]

It remained the last piece, what would happen if i got it, would the task be done or would my trial really begin. Then i heard something moving, when i turned, my eyes met someone no something inhuman. Its skin was black like the blackened souls but it was humanoid except the dark smoke escaping its eyes, it almost looked like a....

The trees around me was totally obletalerated. It pointed a sword at me. Unlike everything i had met in this place, it wasn't looking at me like a prey but an opponent.

---

As it moved its sword again the already butchered trees were blown at me, with immediate effect, i summoned the blade and lunged forward. Pushing all my weight to the ground i lunged forward, landing on a flying tree, i felt like i could safely escape but only the sound of cutting air echoed in my air as the tree i was on split in half. My long hair was shaved a little before my arm was amputated by it. I used the blade to defend. Without even a little of the force reduced i was sent flying into the untouched forest. I landed woth my back hitting a tree, i felt it, most of my bones shattered, i used to sword to push my self up. I coughed up blood. It was the first time i was bleeding after encountering that lion. My thoughts were cut short as the spawn appeared out of no where, swung its blade , but before it finished, i pushed myself forward, used the blade to counter it. Regardless, the shock shot into my body made pain surge through every corner of my body.My blood dyed the ground red as well as the blade.

The moment its eyes caught sight of the blade, it pushed me away. And took a weird stance. I couldn't even move yet it was expecting me to fight. Then the hex's voice echoed.

Then it felt as if something foreign yet familiar entered my body, the blade morphed on its own into a form i couldn't see, my eyes were severely damage. I stood up without my own consent and took the same stance as him but a bit different. His looked refined and designed. But mine was sloppy but sure. My body moved, i couldn't see but when i could i was right in front of it. As if it was expecting, it instantly defended then tried to counter but then my body moved again more faster and sure. Blood spilled out of my wounds without any outer effect but due to the strain those movements had on me. I moved again and again, the loud sounds of steel hitting steel echoed. Making the ground tremble and the trees bend.

With a defined move the spawn changed. The black smoke changed to dark purple, then his moves got stronger. The ground cracked beneath his feet as he started gaining control of the fight again. Pushing me and cornering me, more wounds opened but this time i didn't move only defended. Then i felt my mouth move but i couldn't hear or tell what i was saying. It was like, someone else was speaking through me. Then, blood spilled to the ground, i held the blade at his neck slowly piercing through it, my breath haggard and rough. I won, with all the strength i could muster i swung the blade and tore of its neck. But right before it met it, at that moment. The look i couldn't understand but clear of, it was a smile. It was gratitude.

My blade met it, and the hex echoed in my head

[You have slain Twilight demon, forgotten Guardian of the king]

[You have slain a named being]

[You have ....]

Before i could hear the rest, my body fell down out of exhaustion, even if i wanted to i would never be able to get up on my own. My eyes still met the guardian's corpse, it was dissolving into dust. My eyes shut close before i could see any more.
